Description

Up for sale is a 2010 Honda Insight EX with 63k miles. I bought this car brand new from a dealership, and use it almost exclusively for twice-a-month trips to Arkansas (i.e. almost all highway miles). If you're looking at the Insight, you know what an excellent vehicle it is. 43 mpg highway, $25 to fill the tank for 350+ miles? Really can't beat it. I also find that the handling is MUCH better than it's more famous cousin, the Toyota Prius.  Our family is growing, and we have outgrown the Insight.  I have never had a mechanical issue with the car, and have done all the routine maintenance myself (oil changes, 30k miles, 60k miles, etc.)  We have loved this car, and there a few spills and very minor stains on the interior to show it.  Please note that in the photos, the seats are damp because I just cleaned them.  They are not grimy in the least.  The tires only have <10,000 miles on them, and were all purchased at the same time. I believe they have a 60K mile warranty on them, for which I have the paperwork.  This car has only been in the South.  It has never seen salt or snow.

You are buying this car from me, a private individual, not a dealership or wholesaler.  This obviously has its advantages and disadvantages.  My car has a few very minor scratches, and someone stole the "H" off the front.  Also, the passenger-side hubcap got scraped up by a curb.  The car has very minor hail damage that you can really only see in the right light.  I would say probably 30-ish dime-sized (if not smaller) dings.  Such is life.  Mechanically, this car is in perfect order, and has never been in the shop for any issue.

Shipping/Transporting

The car  is based in Dallas, Texas (zip code 75225).  You can pick it up, or arrange for transportation yourself.  I am happy to work the transportation company of your choice.  However, I do offer the following arrangement:  I will drive the car to you at the following rates: $1.25 per mile for between 0-500 miles, $1.60 per mile for 501-1000 miles, and $2.25 a mile for 1001+ miles.  As we are all good people, I also ask that you give me a ride to your nearest transportation hub so I can easily return to Dallas.  I will need payment for transportation before I drive to you.

Terms of Sale, Payment and Warranty

This car is sold AS IS.  It carries with it no warranties, express or implied.  I reserve the right to end this auction early for any reason and to cancel bids at will.  Upon completion of the auction, the winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours to arrange payment and transportation.  A $300 deposit is required through PayPal within 48 hours after the close of the auction.  The deposit amount will be deducted from the ending sale price.  PLEASE NOTE:  The car will be ready to be delivered/picked up by March 15th.

About me

I'm a married, father of two, currently in law school in Dallas, Texas.  I tell you this because I think it helps to know that I have a lot to lose by screwing somebody on a car deal.  I've already bought a new car, so it's in my best interest to make this happen smoothly and quickly.  I hope you agree.  Please feel free email me with any questions you might have.

Honda fined $70 million for failing to report deaths, injuries

Thu, Jan 8 2015

The federal agency charged with keeping US motorists safe announced Thursday it has fined Honda $70 million for failing to report death and injury data in a timely manner. Honda failed to report 1,729 incidents involving death or injury over an 11-year period, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration officials. Federal law requires automakers to report deaths, injuries and certain warranty claims. Officials said Thursday that information could have been used to spot trends in automotive defects and potentially save lives. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said it is possible the Department of Justice could conduct a criminal investigation into the failures, but it was not immediately known whether the Justice Department would pursue such charges. NHTSA officials still don't know much about the 1,729 incidents of death or injury that were missing from the Early Warning Reporting records, because in some cases, they still haven't been reported. Mark Rosekind, the agency's new administrator, said Honda is still in the process of sending investigators the missing information. "Our first task will be to review that, and determine actual deaths and injuries," he said. "That data is in the process of coming to us and being processed right now." The $70 million is the largest civil penalty levied against an automaker in history, officials said. It actually consists of two $35 million penalties, the maximum allowed by statute for a single TREAD Act violation. In this case, NHTSA broke the fine into separate violations, one for the missing deaths and injury information and one for the company's failure to report certain warranty-claim information. Honda reached an agreement with the federal government in late December, in which it accepted additional regulatory oversight and third-party audits that will ensure reporting is properly completed in the future. American motorcycle brands most satisfying, Japanese most reliable, says Consumer Reports

Fri, Apr 10 2015

Consumer Reports started tracking motorcycle reliability last year through its regular reader survey, just like the magazine's well-known auto guide. For the 2015 edition, CR now has data on over 12,300 bikes, compared to 4,680 in 2014, and the extra info means it can include more brands, like Suzuki, Triumph and Can-Am, to the list. However, the final results remain largely the same. As with last year, Japanese bikes are the best choice for buyers who prioritize reliability. Yamaha comes out on top yet again and is followed by Suzuki, Kawasaki and Honda. Victory and Harley-Davidson hold the middle of the list, and the European cycles from Triumph, Ducati and BMW sit at the bottom. The major outlier in this regional distinction is the Can-Am Spyder from Canada's Bombardier Recreational Products that comes in dead last in the dependability survey. Still, even the most dependable model is occasionally going to break, and the average repair bill across all brands is $342, according to CR's readers. Kawasakis are the cheapest to keep on the road at a median of $269 for fixes, versus BMW as the most expensive at $455. Through all of the companies, electrical gremlins are the most common issue, causing 24 percent of problems, but faults with the cooling system, pistons or transmission are the smallest concerns at 4 percent each. While Japanese cycles might be the easiest to keep on the road, they aren't the most beloved by riders. In CR's gauge of satisfaction, the Americans reign supreme. Victory owners love their bikes the most with 80 percent reporting that they would buy another. Harley riders are known for having a close bond to the company's models, and the brand comes in second with 72 percent. Finally, Honda rounds out the top three at 70 percent. Head over to Consumer Reports to see more results. News Source: Consumer ReportsImage Credit: Toby Brusseau / AP Photo BMW Honda Suzuki Motorcycle Ducati bike victory

Acura NSX GT3 data 'will inform future iterations' of the street car

Wed, Jul 20 2016

Motorsports programs exist to drive innovation in road vehicles, and that's precisely what's happening at Honda. Acura NSX development boss Nick Robinson told Autocar that the company's work on the GT3 racing variant is directly informing future development on the road car. "In North America, we've just unveiled the GT3 version of the car, and the development team of the street car has had some involvement in its development," Robinson said. "What works well on the track will inform future iterations and updates of the street car and vice versa." But Honda is a big company that does more than build cars. Robinson paid tribute to the impact his employer's well-known motorcycle program had on the NSX. Apparently, building stuff like the CBR helped Honda with the NSX's complicated packaging. "For many years our motorcycle development teams have strived to ensure the optimum centralization of mass, ensuring the lowest possible center of gravity," Robinson told Autocar. "This leads to the best possible yaw response." Is this all a sign that a long-rumored lighter, faster NSX, potentially wearing the vaunted Type R badge, will be especially track-focused? Maybe. Robinson's comments indicate that the company is doing something with the mountains of data it collects running a GT3 program. While a pure road-focused NSX-R successor seems like it'd be a waste of that data, an NSX-based rival to the Porsche 911 GT3 RS might make a lot more sense.
