2000 Honda Insight - Red - 49 Mpg Lifetime on 2040-cars

US $3,000.00
Year:2000 Mileage:197500 Color: has seen better days
Location:

I'm asking $3500 for my 2000 Honda Insight with manual transmission. I really thought I'd drive this thing till the day it died, but, well... 3 kids don't fit very well in a 2-seater vehicle. Not to mention car seats.

Best parts:
  • Still my daily driver!
  • The lifetime MPG is 49.1, but if you upgrade the IMA battery you could see around 60mpg.
  • The interior has been steam cleaned beautifully.
  • New-to-me carpet and floor mats.
  • The roughly $300 Kenwood KDC-X995 stereo head unit will stay with the car.
  • Stereo has Bluetooth phone, USB, and AUX cable.
  • HOV Lane sticker!!! This lets you drive in the HOV lane without a passenger.
  • Clean title in hand, no liens.
  • Ram Mount X-Grip Cellphone holder stays if you want it.

I'm a straight shooter, so here's everything I think you need to know to make an informed decision.

Disclosures:
  • Exterior has seen better days. No accidents, just paint chips
  • ~197500 miles
  • Check engine light - P0420. Google the issue on Honda Insights; the Honda is notorious for throwing this code before there's an actual problem.
  • 1st gear can struggle around 4000 RPM. However, that's pretty high RPM for 1st gear, you should shift sooner.
  • DMV history shows errors in mileage recording resulting in a previous NAM title. Issue resolved in current title, which reads "Actual Mileage"

Recommendations:
Gas mileage will likely jump up to 33% if you get a new IMA and replace catalytic converter. However, the IMA is a fix I would only do if you plan to keep the car for a while.

Honda settles class-action lawsuit over oil-burning V6s

Wed, 23 Oct 2013

Although we hadn't heard of this issue before, Automotive News reports that Honda has agreed to settle a massive class-action lawsuit brought against it for engine trouble potentially affecting nearly 1.6 million vehicles. The lawsuit includes Accord (2008-12), Odyssey (2008-13), Pilot (2009-13) and Crosstour (2010-13) models equipped with the 3.5-liter V6 with Variable Cylinder Management, which might experience engine misfire, excessive oil burning and premature spark plug fouling issues.
As part of the settlement, Honda will extend the powertrain warranty on these models for eight years (from time of purchase or lease) with no mileage limitation, and it will also reimburse customers who had to pay out-of-pocket expenses for related repairs such as spark plugs, pistons or, in some cases, apparently, an entirely new engine. (Of course, the repairs had to be related to certain trouble codes.) Lawyers will get no more than $800,000 from Honda and the guy who originally started the case, Vince Eagen, will get $1,000 for his "time and effort."
The final ruling on the matter will take place on March 21, 2014, and if you want to see if you're affected and what options you have in the settlement, check out this .pdf document with all the details.

Question of the Day: What's the most irritating car name?

Wed, Mar 9 2016

You hear a lot about how the Chevrolet Nova was a sales flop in Mexico because "No va" means "it doesn't go" in Spanish; in fact, the Nova sold pretty well south of the border, and in any case most Spanish-speakers know that "Nova" means "new" in Latin and Portuguese. However, General Motors doesn't deserve to be let off the hook for bad car names, because the Oldsmobile Achieva— no doubt inspired by the excruciating "coffee achievers" ads of the 1980s— scrapes the biggest fingernails down the screechiest chalkboard in the US-market car-name world. That is, unless you think Daihatsu's incomprehensible choice of Charade was worse. Meanwhile, Japanese car buyers could get machines with cool names like Mazda Bongo Friendee or Honda Life Dunk. It's just not fair! So, what car name drives you the craziest? Related Video: Auto News Design/Style Chevrolet Honda Mazda Daihatsu Automotive History questions car names

Honda Civic Tourer images arrive early on web

Sun, 03 Mar 2013

Honda provided a teaser sketch of its Civic Tourer concept wagon about a month ago (right), but today, just a couple days before its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show, we've found these official pics of the car in question from WhatCar?
The Civic Tourer concept adds a little length and height to the current Civic hatchback sold in Europe, stretching the shape every which way to make a new wagon model that will compete with cars like the new Volkswagen Golf Variant, which is also making its debut in Geneva this week.
As we mentioned when Honda released the teaser sketch last month, the European Civic is different from the Civic sold here in the US, so the production version of this concept, which should debut in the fall, will never see the inside of a dealership in the States. Do you care, or does the smaller Fit fill that role well enough for Americans?
