Due to a recently blended family I am selling my 97 Del Sol. It has just been to the mechanic where I told him to fix anything that would be an issue in the near future.  The tires are about a year old as are the brakes.  I just had a new timing belt, water pump, camshaft seal, crank seal, valve cover gasket, cv axles, rear main seal and 02 sensors.  The battery is about 6 months old.  The negatives: crack on windshield (not  in line of sight), tear on drivers seat on side, srs light just came on... It could use a new paint job as my best friend who owned it before me kept it outside.  It was treated with Buffer Paint Orbital so it is my understanding that they warranty that although I have not looked into and don't have the time to do so. There are some doors dings which I tried to show in the pictures.  I'm selling it as is.  I've done everything in my power to make sure that it is mechanically sound but am not a mechanic so I can't give any guarantees.  I do have the receipts for work done except for tire receipts. The car has a built in 12in speaker box behind the seats.  I do still have the original panel.. All matching numbers on this original unmolested car.  I reserve the right to end this auction at anytime as I will put it for sale locally also.  $500 deposit withing 24 hours of auction close and full payment due within 72 hours.  Shipping cost will be the buyer's responsibility.  This is my daily driver so the mileage may change.  If you have any other questions; feel free to contact me. 713...894...3314 Paypal will only be accepted for the initial deposit.

Is today's Honda Accord cheaper than it was back in 1989?

Wed, 24 Sep 2014

Whether you're shopping at the grocery story or on a car lot, everything seems to be getting more expensive these days. However, when all the factors are considered, that might be more an issue of perception than of fact. The American Public Media radio show Marketplace recently tackled the question whether modern vehicles were actually more expensive once you factored in important variables like inflation and cost of ownership. The result was pretty surprising.
For its example, Marketplace chose the Honda Accord, because in August, it was one of the bestselling vehicles in the US, with 51,075 of them sold. Winding back the clock 25 years to 1989, Honda's cheapest Accord cost $11,770, and that money bought you a stripped-out car with 98 horsepower, a manual gearbox, no air conditioning and hand-crank windows.
Fast-forward to present day, and a basic Accord starts at around $22,000 and gives buyers significantly more features, including a 185-hp engine, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth, cruise control, more space, refinement and much better safety. By Marketplace's math, when just figuring for inflation, that modern Honda would cost about $11,500 a quarter century ago, despite all of that extra equipment. But that's just one factor. Scroll down to listen to the full report for an explanation of how cost of ownership figures into the mix, and whether it throws all of the calculations off.

2014 Honda Odyssey sucks it up for our editor

Thu, 28 Mar 2013

When we heard that the 2014 Honda Odyssey would be getting the world's first in-car vacuum, we had to check this thing out for ourselves. Called HondaVAC, this tidy little sucker was co-developed with Shop-Vac, and it's actually pretty neat. It comes standard on Odyssey's top-trim Touring Elite model and can be fitted with a wide range of attachments all housed in the cargo area. Honda notes that the vacuum hose is long enough to reach surfaces in every part of the Odyssey's cabin, and that it will even run for a full eight minutes after the vehicle is turned off.
Good thing, then, that Honda chose to show off the new 2014 Odyssey here at the New York Auto Show, as Autoblog west coast editor Michael Harley clumsily managed to spill some snacks all over the cargo area (we tried to convince him to give himself a hickey, but he declined on grounds that his wife might not let him attend any more auto shows). Take a look at the video below to see just how well the new minivan cleans up.

Takata airbag victim looked like she had been stabbed

Tue, 21 Oct 2014

We generally take certain principals for granted. The more water you drink, for example, the healthier you'll be. The more time you spend reading car news on Autoblog, the better informed you'll be. And the more airbags your car has, the safer you'll be. Because airbags equal safety. But that's not what some unfortunate drivers of vehicles equipped with Takata airbags are finding, and tragically finding out the hard way.
In what could be the most startling incident resulting from the airbag debacle so far, a woman named Hien Tran of Orlando, FL, was killed by what looked at first like stab wounds on her neck. It later emerged that the fatal injuries could have been inflicted by the faulty airbag on her Honda Accord. Tran bought her Honda secondhand, and may not have been aware that the airbag issue had not been addressed by its previous owner in a previous recall in 2009.
The Orange County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death, but it wouldn't be the only injury resulting from the malfunctioning Takata airbags. The units, employed particularly by Japanese automakers like Honda (which owns part of Takata) and Toyota, are the subject of a massive recall involving some 14 million vehicles from 11 different automakers.
