This is the Honda Civic - SI I-VTEC DOHC. At the time I write this, there are no mechanical problems that I am aware of, nor have there been since I bought it. The car is just as solid and peppy as the day I drove it off the showroom floor. It is a great, great car. I am the original owner. It has 4 new 94V Wintrac Xtreme XL tires ( 7,000 miles on them) and a new battery within the last year. The interior is in very good to excellent condition other than one unfortunate flaw - there is a small cigarette burn on the back seat. The SI is noted for having the red stitching throughout the car including the steering wheel - there is no broken stitching anywhere! The only functional issue to mention is the drivers side automatic door lock stopped working (the passenger and hatch locks are fine). It needs a new actuator put in ($15 part). The outside does have some surface scrapes and small dings as to be expected with a 9 year old car, but there is nothing major! You cannot feel the scrapes, just see them. This SI has the sunroof and it does not leak!!! Also, there is not rust or peeling paint - I tried to get a good shot of the tires as well as the wheel well to show that there is no rust. I am selling the car because I fell in love with the Hyundai Veloster - Turbo - Red!! I really had no intention of buying a new car (obviously since I had just spent $800 on new tires), but my daughter was there looking at Hyundai's and I saw this one sitting on the showroom floor and that was that. My Civic SI was driven with respect. I am a 65 yr. old female, but don't let that fool you. I love cars and I am a very good driver. I have always owned sports cars (Porsche, 2 Alfa Romeos). I bought the SI because it came very close to handling like my Porsche and the shift gear came out of the dash like in my Alfas. So, to me it was the best of both worlds. It handled like a sports car yet I could put things in there from Home Depot!. So, did I drive it fast, yes at times, but never recklessly. I have religiously changed the oil every 3,000 miles, and it just passed the Illinois emissions control test in September. It really is an awesome car. This car did sell on ebay last week, but the buyer backed out due to his financing falling through. PLEASE, PLEASE . . . serious buyers only and those that already HAVE financing in place. I actually took it to CarMax today because I did not want to deal with another possible negative situation, but as I expected, they were going to give me nothing for it. I will keep it first!! If you check on their website, they sell this car for 12,000 (with 107,000 miles) and 14,000 (with 77,000 miles). Personally, I think that is crazy, but that is what they have 2 of them selling for. I have their appraisal form with everything passing fine - no negatives at all. I plan to add that report, but must wait till Monday until I can scan it at work. Please email me with any questions that you might have - I will be 100% honest with you. If you prefer to speak, email me for my phone number. Local pick-up or I will work with you if you need to have it shipped (buyer's expense). I sold my Alfa Romeo on ebay and worked with the buyer to ship it to Pennsylvania. I require a $500 deposit thru Paypal within 24 hrs and full payment within 7 days of close of auction. Payment must be with a cashier checks or money order. Car can be picked up or shipped when payment has cleared. Low reserve price. Thank you for looking, and please, again SERIOUS bidders only.
On Nov-19-13 at 14:05:50 PST, seller added the following information: NOTE: I am adding the appraisal from Carmax as promised. I spoke with the appraiser afterwards because I was upset about only a "good condition" rating, but he explained that that is the best they give. Something is either GOOD, or not. If it isn't, then they state what the problem or issue is. The same goes for the second page where everything is "OK". Again, that means that there are no problems or issues, or they would state specifically what the problem or issue is. Hope this information helps you. |

Honda Smart Home, NJ dealer show the power of solar
Thu, Mar 27 2014Car dealerships are not usually thought of as "green" enterprises. They sell, after all, the fossil fuel-powered vehicles that account for about 18 percent of the CO2 emissions created in the US each year. As demonstrated by Rossi Honda in Vineland, NJ though, it doesn't have to be that way. Sure, the franchise still sells cars - lots of them - but they power the entire operation with sunlight in a way that provides ancillary benefits. The franchise has installed over 900 solar panels to become electric-grid neutral. Owned and operated by the seemingly indefatigable Ron Rossi, the franchise has installed over 900 solar panels to become electric-grid neutral. They aren't plastered across the roof of the showroom and service center, though. Instead, the array is mounted on canopies over his inventory, protecting them from sun, snow, and hail. Costing about $1.3 million to install, Rossi expects the system to save twice that amount in electricity bills over its 25-year life expectancy. Not bad, right? It makes us wonder why all dealerships don't do this. Honda itself recently completed its own solar project. The super-efficient Honda Smart Home is equipped, not only with its own beefy 9.5-kW solar array, but also with a 10-kWh lithium battery-based stationary storage system to buffer the building's electricity. Amongst its many party tricks, the home incorporates a DC-to-DC charging set up that allows the complimentary Fit EV to charge with half the efficiency losses of a typical home charging unit. While the installation is quite impressive and will serve as a "laboratory" of sorts for different groups involved with the project at the University of California, Davis, we can't help but wonder if the Japanese automaker couldn't get a bigger bang for its environmental buck elsewhere. A program, perhaps, to help its many franchise dealers to take up the Rossi challenge and go grid neutral. You can watch Rossi show off his array and other increased efficiency efforts by scrolling below for a pair of videos: one from Honda and one produced by Automotive News. As a bonus, we have time-lapse footage of the Honda Smart Home going up accompanied by press releases discussing both efforts. This content is hosted by a third party. Design Handbook explains the difference between design and styling
Fri, 11 Oct 2013It's easy to confuse the terms 'design' and 'style,' but Jim Hall attempts to explain the difference between the two in his latest Design Handbook video column for Autoline. Before relating the terms to cars, Hall first uses other, non-automotive-related examples to prove his point, such as a well-designed glass versus a well-styled glass. Both do their job well as a result of good designs, he claims, but one stands out more because it also was styled.
When he relates his lesson to cars, he uses the 2013 Honda Accord and the new Chevrolet Impala as examples, but you'll have to watch the video below to find out which car he thinks is merely designed and which one has been styled.
We've also included a gallery of the Honda and a gallery of the Chevrolet so you can decide for yourself which one of these vehicles has been designed, and which one has been styled.
Honda To Expand Takata Air Bag Recall Nationwide
Wed, Dec 3 2014Under pressure from federal regulators, Honda is expanding a recall of driver's side air bags to all 50 states. The air bags, made by Japanese supplier Takata Corp., can explode with too much force, sending metal shrapnel into the passenger compartment. Takata insists that current recalls covering 8 million U.S. cars in high-humidity areas are sufficient. But the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration wants the recalls expanded nationwide after some incidents outside the high-humidity zones. Rick Schosteck, Honda's executive vice president for North America, told House lawmakers Wednesday that Honda will expand the regional recall it began in June, but will continue to prioritize high-humidity areas. He also said Honda is working with other air bag manufacturers to make sure it has enough parts. Related Gallery Consumer Reports Least Loved Cars 2014 Recalls Honda Safety NHTSA list
