  • Year: 2003.  I am the original owner and purchased this Hybrid Civic from Lindsay Honda in Columbus, Ohio in December 2003.  I hold the title free & clear. 126,700 miles and going strong.

  • Civic Hybrid 4 door Sedan with CVT (continuously variable transmission.)  Color: Titanium Metallic -- Gold/beige with beige cloth interior.

  • Condition: This Civic is in really great shape.  Regarding the interior, it has been exclusively driven by a single female, non-smoker, for 10 years.  No kids, no pets. There are no stains, rips, tears or blemishes on any of the seats.  I can count on one hand the number of times someone has ridden/used the back seats.  The seats, headrests, and interior really are in great condition.  The only wear you will see is on the branded driver-side floor mat.  Yes, it shows its age with multiples roadwear stains.  On the steering wheel, you can see some very mild wear where I hold my hands on the wheel.

Regarding the exterior, the passenger side rear door panel was replaced in Oct 2004 when I tried to squeeze into a tight parking side and misjudged the distance to a lamp pole.  The replacement panel is flawless; you cannot tell any difference. The rear bumper was replaced in January 2013 because of a minor fender bender in the parking lot at the grocery store (not my fault!).  The color match paint is exact and you will not be able to tell it has been replaced.  There are two black scrapes on the driver side rear door towards the back tire where someone side-swiped my car when it was parked in a parking lot.  (Parking lots are really treacherous places, apparently.)   The only other visible defects you can see are some mild hail marks (cosmetic only) from a hail storm in 2004 and other minor dings/scrapes consistent with a 10 years old car .  I have posted some representative pictures of these small defects.  They show absolutely no rust whatsoever.  Although Ohio does salt its roads in the winter, there is no visible rust or salt damage anywhere.

Air conditioning blows cold and and heat blows hot; both are fully functional.  There is a single CD player and AM/FM radio that play well.  I have the code for the radio.

The IMA battery is fully functional and charges/discharges appropriately.  Please see "Warranty" note below.

  • Ownership history: I am the only owner, and therefore can give you the complete vehicle history.  It has been garage kept for all 10 years.  I have the original owners manual.  I can tell you I've never spilt coffee anywhere (don't drink it), and no kid has thrownup in the back seat.  The car has never been in a major accident, and the airbags have never deployed.  I average around 40 MPG in the winter and 45 MPG in the summer time.  If you could consistently drive 50 MPH on back roads all the time, the car would get 80 miles/gallon.  It is a great car.

  • Maintenance history: This car has been to the Honda East dealership in Columbus, Ohio or Roush Honda dealership in Westerville, Ohio religiously every 10K miles for its annual maintenance checkup.  I have all the maintenance records in a folder.

The EGR valve was replaced under warranty on 11/6/07 at 63,600 miles.

The 4 tires were replaced 12/30/08 at 78,400 miles.  (The original tires got tremendous wear!)  As of 10/15/12, there was 7/32" tread left on all 4 tires.

The 12V battery was replaced on 9/14/2009 at 87,700 miles.

Both front headlight bulbs were replaced in 2012.

At the last checkup at 120,000 miles on 10/15/2012, the original brake pads still had 3.6mm of wear left on the front pads and 4.1mm left on the rear pads.  (This is a unique feature of the Hybrid.  Because of the regenerative braking, the brake pads get much less wear than a traditional car.)

I receive all Honda recall notices, and the car has been to the dealership for the required service for all recall notices.  (The last one in 2012 had to do with an airbag sensor.)

  • Title: Title is clear and transferable.

  • Warranty: This vehicle is not covered by any type of warranty.  If you are considering a hybrid, you should be aware of the risks and expected lifetime associated with the hybrid battery (the IMA battery.)  The IMA battery in the car is original and not covered by any warranty.  As noted above, the IMA light has come on once.  A software update on 2/17/12 at 114,500 miles corrected the issue.  The battery may need to be replaced if the light re-occurs.

Shipping: Buyer is responsible for all shipping charges.  I'm a private seller and not experienced in this, so you will have to do your own research in this area.  I am willing to meet you at the Columbus airport if you want to pick up the car here.  I'm also willing to facilitate getting the car to the local car-transport company of your choice.  Please note I intend to remove my license plates from the car, so if you want to pick up the car and drive it home, you will need to arrange for temporary tags.

Payment: A good-faith, non-refundable deposit of $500 is required within 2 days of auction ending.  You then have another 5 days to arrange for a cashier's check or certified bank check for the balance.  Once I have funds in hand, then we can do Title transfer, and this wonderful car is yours!

Honda fined $70 million for failing to report deaths, injuries

Thu, Jan 8 2015

The federal agency charged with keeping US motorists safe announced Thursday it has fined Honda $70 million for failing to report death and injury data in a timely manner. Honda failed to report 1,729 incidents involving death or injury over an 11-year period, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration officials. Federal law requires automakers to report deaths, injuries and certain warranty claims. Officials said Thursday that information could have been used to spot trends in automotive defects and potentially save lives. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said it is possible the Department of Justice could conduct a criminal investigation into the failures, but it was not immediately known whether the Justice Department would pursue such charges. NHTSA officials still don't know much about the 1,729 incidents of death or injury that were missing from the Early Warning Reporting records, because in some cases, they still haven't been reported. Mark Rosekind, the agency's new administrator, said Honda is still in the process of sending investigators the missing information. "Our first task will be to review that, and determine actual deaths and injuries," he said. "That data is in the process of coming to us and being processed right now." The $70 million is the largest civil penalty levied against an automaker in history, officials said. It actually consists of two $35 million penalties, the maximum allowed by statute for a single TREAD Act violation. In this case, NHTSA broke the fine into separate violations, one for the missing deaths and injury information and one for the company's failure to report certain warranty-claim information. Honda reached an agreement with the federal government in late December, in which it accepted additional regulatory oversight and third-party audits that will ensure reporting is properly completed in the future. Refreshed Honda Civic's first commercial is a minor mea culpa

Thu, 27 Dec 2012

Honda has officially rolled out the first ad for the 2013 Civic. The one-minute spot focuses on a number of clever inventions that improve on old themes, from rocket-powered parachutes to hover bikes and smart window shades, before shifting to the redesigned compact. Set to Santigold's "Disparate Youth," the ad culminates with the phrase, "Things can always be better." This is likely as close as we'll come to hearing Honda say, "we could have done better."
Unveiled at the 2012 LA Auto Show, the 2013 Civic features revised front and rear fascias, nicer cabin materials and an updated suspension just one year after the ninth-generation model debuted. That car received scaling reviews from critics, most notably Consumer Reports, who felt the 2012 Civic was a step backwards for a company known for producing high-quality, economical vehicles. You can check out the full ad for the 2013 Civic below before it debuts during the Rose Bowl.

Honda working on 'power exporter' to go with fuel-cell vehicle

Fri, Nov 28 2014

The bad news, as we've previously reported, is that Honda's first production hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle won't debut until 2016, a bit later than expected. The good news is that the automaker may produce a device that will let that FCV's motor power up other devices as well. So it's a tradeoff of sorts. The company is producing what it calls the Power Exporter Concept. Put simply, it's a device that can connects to the fuel-cell vehicle and produce AC power (the picture makes it look fairly small, but dimensions weren't disclosed). The device has a maximum output of 9 kilowatts. Honda isn't saying much else about the device, which was announced along with further details of the company's upcoming fuel-cell concept vehicle. Still, it's heady yet not terribly surprising stuff from a company that's long been a big player on the portable power generator industry. Honda recently said its first production fuel-cell vehicle would see the light of day in early 2016 instead of 2015. The futuristic-looking vehicle will have a power output of about 130 horsepower and will be able to have its hydrogen tank filled up in less than five minutes. Take a look at Honda's press release below. Honda Unveils All-New FCV CONCEPT Fuel-Cell Vehicle - Striving to Realize a CO2-free Society by Combining FCV with an external power feeding device and Smart Hydrogen Station - TOKYO, Japan, November 17, 2014 - Honda Motor Co., Ltd. today unveiled, for the first time in the world, the Honda FCV CONCEPT, a concept car for an all-new fuel-cell vehicle (FCV), and the Honda Power Exporter CONCEPT, a concept model for an external power feeding device that enables AC power output from the FCV with maximum output of 9 kW*1. The all-new FCV that will be based on this concept model is scheduled to go on sale in Japan by the end of March, 2016 and subsequently in the U.S. and Europe. In addition to the FCV and external power feeding device, Honda will further promote the application of the Smart Hydrogen Station (SHS), a packaged hydrogen station unit that adopts Honda's original high-differential-pressure electrolyzer. In this way, Honda will work toward the forthcoming hydrogen society under three key concepts – "generate," "use" and "get connected" – and strive for the early realization of a CO2-free society.
