You are looking at my 1990 Honda CRX SI Hatchback, Red color, that I acquired in the fall of 2007. It had 75K miles when I bought it and now has 172K. It has never been in an accident. The engine runs strong and smooth. The car gets excellent gas mileage around 36-38 mpg average. The car has VIN # JHMED9367LS010434.

This car will be sold as is and I will describe as accurately as possible all known issues or concerns. The winning bidder is responsible for pickup, shipping, or delivery of the car.

This has been a very reliable, fuel efficient, and zippy car to drive around in. It does not have A/C but has a sun roof and plenty of ventilation. A/C was never initially installed but could be installed by a competent mechanic. This car has been used for my work commute car and has mostly highway miles.  I am only selling because I’ve decided to invest in a new car.

There are no engine or car issues other than what is described below.

Car Maintenance since I’ve owned:

-       Oil changes with synthetic oil and High efficiency oil filter every 6K miles.

-       Engine tune-up (spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor) every 30K miles.

-       Manual transmission oil changed every 40K miles.

-       2 new front CEV front shaft axle shafts at 132K miles.

-       Front left ball joint replaced at 132K miles.

-       Wheel alignment checked and adjusted every 40K miles.

-       New clutch and timing belt replaced around 100K miles.

-       Replace the Fuel and air filter replaced every 30K miles.

-       New alternator / and belt, and battery replaced in the last year.

-       Coolant flush every 30K miles.

-       New exhaust pipe / muffler at 168K miles.

-       New catalytic converter and center pipes at 130K miles.

-       New Brake pads replaced in last year.

-       New Sumitomo tires installed at 120K Miles.

-       New starter at 164K miles.

-       New battery at 163K miles.

-       New alternator and belt at 134K miles.

The car does have some flaws:

-       There is surface rust around the wheel wells and on top to the sun roof. I did apply some JB Weld on top of the sun roof and around the wheel wells, and covered with red paint to prevent the rust from spreading any further. You can see the bubbly surface on the sunroof. Any reputable body shop could easily fix these areas.

-       The oil pan drain hole threads are slighting stripped so I have had to apply JB weld around the oil pan bolt to prevent a small leak following each oil change. The JB weld can be easily chipped away for removal of the pan plug and oil change.

-       The driver seat cloth is ripped on the upper left side. I remedied this by applying black duct tape. Of course car seat covers would be better, or a seamstress could repair.

-       The rear windshield washer sprayer does not work.

-       On occasion when shifting into 2nd gear to quickly, there is some slight grinding heard. I had discovered this when I 1st purchased the car. A reputed mechanic told me this would never get any worse, and to this day it hasn’t. If you ease into 2nd gear gently, this will not occur.

-       There is a slight dent in right rear panel (see pic).

-       On hot days when the car is sitting too long, the accelerator (gas pedal) needs to be depressed for 30 seconds, and then the engine can be started. I think this may be a sensor issue? Otherwise, the engine always starts smoothly.

-       There is a slight scratch in the front windshield driver side.  (see pic)

-       There is a small cut / rip in the vinyl on the driver’s door side. (see pic)

-       The Hood opening latch inside the car has to be held in open position so that the front hood can be popped open. I accomplish this by putting a wrench or 12” piece of wood to hold the latch in open position.

-

The CRX SI original owner’s manual also comes with the car. The winning bidder is responsible for pickup or shipping.

Race recap: 2016 Belgian Grand Prix is a dozen angry laps

Mon, Aug 29 2016

The calm of the Formula One summer break ended with the tumult of the Belgian Grand Prix. The first two days included unusual tire pressures and grid penalties; Mercedes-AMG Petronas' Lewis Hamilton started 21st because of a 55-place grid penalty for engine and gearbox changes, McLaren's Fernando Alonso started 22nd due to a 60-place penalty for the same offenses. The bedlam rolled right into what was effectively an 11-or 12-lap race. Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg took off from pole and the cameras barely bothered with him until he took the checkered flag 44 laps later. Red Bull's Max Verstappen bogged from second on the grid, got swallowed by Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen on the way to Turn 1, then attempted to recover by sticking his Red Bull's nose between Raikkonen's sidepod and the apex at the first corner. Vettel, who didn't see Verstappen, turned into La Source leaving only enough room for Raikkonen. Three cars don't fit in a space for two cars. Vettel spun, Raikkonen and Verstappen clobbered one another and all three drivers had to pit for repairs. Force India's Nico Hulkenberg zig-zagged his way into second ahead of Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo, Williams' Valtteri Bottas, and Sergio Perez in the second Force India. On Lap 6 Kevin Magnussen lost his Renault at Raidillon at the top of Eau Rouge and flew backward into an enormous crash. Magnussen escaped with just a cut ankle. The Safety Car paraded the field for four laps before officials red flagged the race to repair the barriers. When racing resumed on Lap 10, Rosberg led Ricciardo, Hulkenberg, Alonso, and Hamilton. Ricciardo stayed ahead of Hamilton to keep second place at the end of the race, Hamilton easily got around Alonso and Hulkenberg to lock up third. Hulkenberg – who'd given up second to Ricciardo by pitting during the Safety Car period – earned another career-best fourth position ahead of teammate Perez in fifth, followed by Vettel and Alonso on recovery drives, Bottas, Raikkonen, and Felipe Massa taking 10th in the second Williams. Rosberg reignited his Driver's Championship charge with the victory, closing to nine points of leader Hamilton. We could argue that Hamilton had an equally good day by driving from 21st to third, limiting his loss to only 10 points. About that Verstappen, though... We've seen far more experienced drivers attempt the same move Verstappen made into Turn 1 – Raikkonen on Bottas in Russia in 2015, for instance.

Acura to roll out NSX Prototype for Mid-Ohio IndyCar race

Thu, 25 Jul 2013

Acura will tease us yet again with its next-gen NSX when it makes an appearance at Mid-Ohio Raceway before the circuit's IndyCar race early next month. To be fair, the car's in-motion debut won't take the form of a production model - that's still a ways off - the vehicle will be a prototype. It'll be sporting custom graphics and an eye-catching paint (wrap?) job to draw the attention of the spectators, but really, we just want to hear this thing rounding the legendary road course at full chat.
The NSX prototype doesn't look to be much different from the various showcars we've seen over the last couple of years, with the same mid-engined, hybrid V6 power and all-wheel drive all present and accounted for.
The display will take place before the Honda Indy 200 IndyCar Series on August 4. The race itself starts at 3:00 pm and will be shown on NBC Sports Network.

eBay Find of the Day: Ayrton Senna's 1993 Honda NSX

Fri, 09 Aug 2013

It's not often that things owned by the late Ayrton Senna come up for sale, but the seller of this black-on-black 1993 Honda NSX (aka, Acura NSX) eBay find claims it was once owned by the Formula One legend, and that he left a footprint on the factory carpet that can still be seen today. (Footprint, or vacuum lines?...)
NSX no. T000999 was given to Senna as a gift from his mentor and sponsor, Antonio de Almeida Braga, the seller claims, and it was stored at a palace near the Estoril F1 circuit in Portugal. He also was known to drive two other NSXs, a black one and a red one - the latter in which he was seen often.
The seller claims to have owned T000999, which is still in Portugal, for 17 years, and the 31,000-mile odometer indicates it was driven about 1,500 miles per year on average. Thankfully the car has been kept stock, so whoever buys it can enjoy driving it just as Senna did - that is, if the car actually is what it's claimed to be. If the story checks out, then this is one valuable NSX, which is reflected in the high minimum starting bid of 47,500 pounds ($73,620). There have been no bids at time of writing, but with nine days left in the auction, we'll be keeping our eyes on this one.
