1986 Honda Crx Si, Unmodified, Unrestored Southwest Car on 2040-cars
Carson City, Nevada, United States
I bought this CRX in January 2013 because I've always wanted a first generation CRX that wasn't a flintstone mobile and this one came up as a super original car. No drivetrain swaps, not even a cone airfilter. The only "enhancements" are the eightiestastic louvers on the hatch and a 1980s high quality stereo install. Reason for sale - I don't use it much anymore and am consolidating my fleet so I can buy a "proper" race car.
161k on the odometer, I'm the third owner, was bought new in Texas (dealer sticker still on the car and the somewhat dog eared original owners manual confirms that), lived out in Fallon NV for a long time. Typical Southwestern car issues (dry/shrunk rubber), paint on the hood is faded and has been polished through to the primer on one "ridge" of the hood. I've had the timing belt changed shortly after I bought it and changed out the original shocks for a set of KYB GR2s as the original shocks had exceeded their "throw away by date" by at least a decade. It rides like one of these little buzzboxes should, always starts and generally just works like a Honda should. At some point the speakers that were part of the original 80s install were replaced and someone cut holes in the doorcards for the speakers. Things like that upset me, so I sourced a set of uncut door cars in good condition and the correct color. Of course they come with the car. The previous owner also tried to "repair" the sun visors by putting in new material and then stitching them together (please see photo). Unfortunately I have not found a good set of sun visors to replace these. I also had the pedal mechanism replaced with a good used one as the one that is original to the car suffered from the usual broken welds. Known issues:
Car comes with two uncut door cards, rear speaker mounts and covers, replacement front Brembo disks, Porterfield R4S pads and calipers. Car is in Carson City, NV. If you want to do a fly&drive, I'm happy to pick you up from the airport in Reno, NV. Clear and clean NV title in hand. Please let me know if you require more photos of specific areas of the car, I'm happy to send them to you if necessary. Also, if you want to inspect the car in person please contact me so we can arrange to meet up. Very reasonable reserve price. |

A look inside Honda’s “Safety For Everyone” research and development operation
Sat, Aug 24 2019RAYMOND, Ohio—As part of its long-running “Safety for Everyone” campaign, Honda has established the audacious goal of what it calls a “zero-collision society.” But rather than making big claims about developing a fully-autonomous vehicle, which Honda hasnÂ’t done, the company is trying to chip away at the more than 37,000 vehicle-related fatalities that occurred in the U.S. in 2017 with a multi-pronged approach. Here in central Ohio, engineers are working with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to boost active safety systems like its HondaSensing suite of safety technology with old fashioned passive systems like structural steel frames or new airbag designs that protect passengers in a crash. Honda provided members of the press with a rare tour inside its Honda R&D Americas headquarters this week. Honda officials say that increasingly, safety — and specifically, third-party ratings from the likes of the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety — figure into the top three factors consumers weigh when purchasing a vehicle. Honda and Acura have 10, 2019 models that have earned IIHSÂ’s Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ ratings, and all 15, 2019 model-year Honda and Acura vehicles that have undergone NHTSA crash testing have earned a 5-star overall rating. And Honda prides itself on its growing list of safety firsts, including the first upward-deploying front passenger airbag, in 1990 in the Acura Legend; first omni-directional crash-test facility, in 2000; and the first autonomous braking system, in the 2006 Acura RL. It hopes its new three-chamber airbag goes industry-wide and joins that list. “ItÂ’s part of our companyÂ’s culture,” said Art St. Cyr, business head unit and vice president of auto operations for American Honda Motor Co. “We have a philosophy at Honda that we want to be a company that society wants to exist. That means we have to protect our customers. ThatÂ’s part of the whole mantra of doing this.” Opened in 1984, the 1.6 million square-foot Honda R&D Americas facility, located in the countryside about 45 miles northwest of Columbus, employs around 1,600 people and is HondaÂ’s largest research-and-development facility outside of Japan. Its Advanced Safety Research facility opened in 2003.
Honda Civic Type R on track to smash 'Ring record, eclipse NSX
Wed, 01 Oct 2014Honda has made some serious performance machinery over the course of its history, but few products have been as hotly anticipated as the upcoming new Civic Type R. Following a deep and proud history of Type R Hondas, the latest Japanese hot hatch is continuing its long striptease at the Paris Motor Show this week. But before it does, Honda has released this video clip featuring project leader Suehiro Hasshi - and he has some bold claims to make.
For one, he says it'll be the best Type R yet - and that's quite a statement considering some of its predecessors, including the almighty NSX Type R. Hasshi-san also reiterates Honda's aim of snatching the front-drive lap record at the Nürburgring away from the likes of Renault and Seat, and reports that the Honda team is on track to chew every bit it's biting off. In short, the new Civic Type R ought to be sensational.
Honda Civic coupe concept gets Type R render
Wed, Apr 15 2015In presenting the Civic coupe concept at the New York Auto Show earlier this month, Honda confirmed that the Type R will eventually be coming to North America. Honda just didn't say when, and in what form. But given the announcement's coincidence with the coupe concept's unveiling, it stands to reason the Type R could look less like the current hatchback and more like the two-door that was unveiled. And if it is, it'd probably look something like this. At least, we hope. Created by Wild-Speed.com and posted on the enthusiast forums at CivicX.com, these renderings envision what a Type R version of the Civic concept would look like – with two doors and all the go-fast bits. It may not be bright green anymore, but it sure looks mean – from the aggressive aero kit to the performance rolling stock. It's even got quad exhaust tips like the Euro-market hot hatch, but mounted in the center like the concept's. So what do you think, is this the version Honda should be sending to its American dealers? Sound off in the Comments. Related Video:
