1994 Geo Metro Xfi With Air Conditioning No Reserve on 2040-cars

Year:1994 Mileage:237782
Location:

Sparks, Nevada, United States

I bought a new car and now I'm selling my beloved Geo Metro xfi. I drove a Metro because I wanted to. I could afford to fix anything that ever went wrong with the car and I enjoyed working on it, so it is ready to drive anywhere. I would trust it to drive to Alaska right now. It averages 48mpg in town and 52mpg on road trips. I drive slow but no hypermiling.

No Rust.

Car has 238k miles. I rebuilt the engine at 201k in December 2011. I did a good job on it (machine shop 0.020" over bore, new pistons, rings, bearings, new oil pump, studied forum posts before rebuilding). I have extensive prior mechanical experience and I am careful. It has given zero problems in the 37k miles since the rebuild. It gets Mobil 1 oil and doesn't burn or leak anything.

It does have xfi cam. Pistons have standard rings since they were new oversize pistons.

A/C installed by me with parts from a donor car. New filter/drier and O-rings. Super cold and never a problem with it in 3 years. Of course it affects performance and mpg but it's nice to have when you need it.

Transmission is a 4.10 ratio, not 3.79. Synchromesh oil. Shifts perfectly into and out of all gears. New clutch and clutch cable at 201k.

All wheel bearings new within 3 years. All brakes are good. Calipers and rotors replaced recently. Brakes work perfect and no strange noises or vibrations. CV joints good.

All windows roll up and down. All door latches work like they should. All door locks work. Rear hatch stays up by itself.

Professionally tinted windows with 3M film.

Ultra capacitor/12ah SLA hybrid battery. Starts right up hot or cold. Easy to replace with normal heavy lead acid car battery if you don't like it.

CD/MP3 Stereo with aftermarket speakers. USB and AUX inputs.

The only issue with the car is sometimes in the winter I smell a coolant smell from the heater. It doesn't consume coolant but I assume there is a slight wet area on the heater core. It's been like that for 3 years and never got worse. Windshield wiper control lever is not original but it works.

Fly to Reno, stay the night at my house, drive it home the next day. I live right next to I-80. Where else are you going to find a rust free xfi with A/C?

Big And Boxy Might Be Best
As immense fans of the Back to the Future trilogy, we sometimes like to envision an alternate timeline in which General Motors had killed off GMC and kept Pontiac instead. The G8 GXP would still be on the road handily beating German sport sedans costing twice as much, while the lowly G3 would morph into a true subcompact-killer based on what is now the Chevrolet Sonic RS. While we're at it, let's go ahead and imagine the G6 has become the best-selling car in the US and the Torrent crossover is selling 20,000+ units per month. Far-fetched, we know.
The thing is, these fanciful statements would have to be true to make the case against keeping GMC. Pontiac may have offered more excitement than GMC, but money talks, and a full line of trucks, crossovers and SUVs have made a lot more money for GM than the arrowhead brand ever did. How much? As we learned last month, about two-thirds of GM's global profits came from its fullsize trucks, and GMC's trucks typically have thicker margins than their Chevrolet counterparts.

GM announces net 220 job increase as Trump visits Michigan

Wed, Mar 15 2017

GM announced today that about 900 jobs would be added (or, importantly, retained) ahead of President Trump's arrival in Michigan, where he is expected to discuss his plan to roll back fuel economy standards. The timing of the announcement is almost certainly not coincidental, as appending it to a Trump visit gives it a higher profile and dovetails with the President's jobs agenda. It's less likely the decision itself was made for those reasons, but the free PR boost is a nice bonus. As for those 900 jobs themselves, they aren't all new jobs. The only net gain is approximately 220 jobs at the Romulus Powertrain Plant, which produces the 10-speed automatic transmission that's proliferating through the company's lineup. The 180 jobs at Flint Assembly and 500 jobs at Lansing Delta Township are retained jobs – that is to say, spots the company found for workers who would otherwise have been laid off. By the way, the Flint jobs will help with production of heavy-duty pickups, and the Lansing jobs are to produce the Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave. Finding jobs for manufacturing workers in the auto sector, whether new or retained, is admirable. No matter how GM couches it, the company has created or retained a total of 7,000 jobs this year, and its total reinvestment in US production is around $1 billion. But these decisions are business ones, not political ones – timing the announcements to make them seem inspired by economic policy, or the political situation, is simply smart PR. 2018 GMC Sierra 2500HD All Mountain concept: Nothing stops it in its tracks

Wed, Nov 22 2017

Winter may not be the best time for sports cars, but snow and ice can still provide a ton of fun in the right vehicle. The Porsche Macan GTS I had back in January was a riot in the snow, and it was wearing nothing more than a good set of winter tires. What you really need to conquer the frozen north is tracks. These replace wheels with the same sort of equipment that helps tanks and snowmobiles roll over damn near everything in their paths. That's what makes the 2018 GMC Sierra 2500HD All Mountain concept so awesome. That and the 910 pound-feet of torque from the 6.6-liter Duramax turbo diesel V8. The All Mountain concept is set to debut this week in Veil, Colorado, home to ski slopes, log cabins and nearly year-round snow pack. The truck is based off a standard GMC Sierra 2500HD. The turbo-diesel V8 makes 445 horsepower in addition to the mountain of torque. Power is sent to all four corners through an Allison 1000 six-speed automatic. The new treads come courtesy of Mattracks. The 150 Series tracks aren't cheap — well into five figures with installation — but they give you a nice 16-inch surface at each corner. Other changes and add-ons include graphics on the bodywork, a RIGID E-Series 30-inch light bar, LEDs on the wheel well and underbody, Thule snowboard racks, a roll-up tonneau cover and a new speaker system from Kicker. The truck will stay on display in Veil all winter, though a similar concept will be making its way to various auto shows, starting with Los Angeles next week.
