SELLER REMARKS |
|
If you like the square-jawed look of the GM pickups of the '80s, this 1987 GMC Sierra 1500 should check all the boxes: short bed, great color, 4-wheel-drive, and a bunch of options like factory A/C. There's a reason we sell so many of these, and you shouldn't be surprised if this one vanishes before you can make your move.
It's hard to make one of these trucks look bad, but somehow bright red delivers a knockout punch that suits it extremely well. The big truck seems almost sporty with the vivid paint and it's extremely well maintained. It's not perfect, but it's also obvious that this truck never had to hold down a day job and instead received regular washing and waxing and never had to suffer through a harsh northern winter. Gaps are pretty much what you got from the factory and the shine is fantastic, surely good enough to stand out at the next local cruise-in. A few chrome pieces make these trucks look more upscale than you'd think for a working-class machine, and the stainless beltline trim and big chrome bumpers are in excellent condition. And while the bed is ideally suited to doing some hard labor, it's just so nicely finished that you'll probably think twice before stacking it full of lumber or bricks for your next project.
The two-tone gray cloth interior has a definitely upscale feel, particularly given that this truck was built nearly 30 years ago. The seat cover has to be new, but it appears that things like the carpets, dash pad, and door panels are original, which speaks volumes about the quality of this pickup. It's also loaded with options, including factory A/C, power windows and locks, a tilt column, cruise control, and a sliding rear window that's ideal for ventilating the cabin when it's not quite hot enough for the air conditioning. The original gauges are in excellent condition and the factory AM/FM/cassette stereo remain in the dash. And as a 4x4, there's a shifter on the floor for the 2-speed transfer case, and the go-anywhere ability is one of the most appealing features in a pickup like this.
In a short bed/regular cab pickup, a 350 cubic inch V8 is plenty for entertaining performance on and off road. The engine is largely stock, so it starts easily and idles smoothly, and it has that great low-end torque that makes this truck feel more like a vintage muscle car than a utilitarian hauler. The engine bay is mostly stock, from the air cleaner to the exhaust manifolds, although the dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers make it sound a little more potent out on the streets. Linked to a 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission and the aforementioned 2-speed transfer case, it's a decent highway cruiser that still pulls down acceptable highway fuel economy. The chassis is certainly clean enough for us to think it's never been off-roading, but the hardware is there if you're ever consumed by the need to head out into the wilderness. Factory Rally-style wheels lend it a sporting demeanor and wear big Michelin LTX radials that fill the fenders just right.
These trucks remain eminently popular and are still very affordable, but the supply of clean, unabused pickups is getting smaller all the time. Why not indulge yourself and pick one up; you know you've been waiting for one since you were a kid. Call now!

General Motors has released more information on the 4.3-liter V6 available in the 2014 GMC Sierra. The engine will serve up 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque, with a six-speed automatic transmission, and giving the V6 Sierra a maximum tow rating of 7,200 pounds in regular cab, short bed four-wheel drive configuration. GM claims that figure is 500 pounds more than the equivalent Ford F-150 equipped with a 3.7-liter V6, and 700 pounds more than the Ram 1500 with its 3.6-liter V6. Buyers can expect to see the 2014 GMC Sierra with the 4.3-liter engine start at $25,085 including destination.
While the engine does deliver more torque than either of its main competitors, it falls short on the horsepower front. The 3.7-liter V6 in the F-150 develops 302 hp while the 3.6-liter V6 in the Ram 1500 yields 305 hp. GM says fuel economy estimates for its newest entry will land later this year. Check out the full press release below for more information.

Variety, as they say, is the spice of life. That's a lesson that is currently being taught to General Motors, because despite a strong showing from its 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, the General's pickup sales still can't best those of cross-town rival Ford.
With 59,163 trucks moved, GM fell just over 1,000 units short of toppling Ford, and one of the main reasons for that, according to GM's chief sales analyst, was due to a lack of variety in the engines and body styles available on dealer lots. "We are still over-weighted toward crew-cab V8 trucks. Our light-duty mix will moderate over time as our launch progresses," said Kurt McNeil.
Loading dealers with the popular combination of the 5.3-liter V8 and the four-door, Crew Cab body style was intentional during the truck's launch, but as supplies of leftover 2013 models, which are being sold at heavy incentives, are beginning to wane, both budget-conscious and high-dollar buyers are looking elsewhere instead of at the volume model pickups.

The automotive sector made a hash of the numbers last month, a mess of pluses and minuses clogging the transaction-price charts according to Kelley Blue Book. The overall industry rose one percent, even though buyers bought fewer cars and light vehicles in January 2018 vs 2017 using the selling-day adjusted rate. Due to January transaction prices rising to $36,270, a record for January, the value of new vehicles sold climbed more than $1 billion compared to January 2017. KBB's transaction prices don't include customer incentives, which changes the complexion slightly; average incentive spending rose to just over ten percent. The average transaction price in December 2017 was $36,756, so January dropped a bit - nothing unexpected, with the month annually blamed for "January doldrums." More revealing is the fact that the average transaction price in January 2017 was $34,910. This year's plumped-up figure came courtesy of the continued shift to crossovers, SUVs, and light trucks, which shouldn't surprise anyone who's read an automotive blog in the past 20 years. That category comprised nearly 70 percent of new vehicle sales for the month. Some manufacturers profited more than others, though. Fiat Chrysler managed 12.8 percent fewer sales in January compared year-on-year, but the company's vehicles sold for $1,300 more. The Ford brand suffered a 6.3-percent dip in sales, but brand transaction prices increased $2,000, while a Lincoln sold for $8,700 more on average. General Motors sold more cars and sold them for more money; overall GM transaction prices rose four percent, or $1,270, while a GMC traded hands for seven-percent more than in January 2017 and a Cadillac got $2,300 more on average. Of KBB's listed automakers, the Volkswagen Group got the most of out its customers, transaction prices rising at the German automaker by 5.6 percent to $42,243 in January 2018 compared to a year earlier. American Honda followed with a 4.3-percent increase to $28,991, GM in third at 4.1 percent to $40,313. Find your next car at Autoblog using our new and used car listings or the Car Finder tool. Broken out by segment, minivans rocked the table, transaction prices leaping by 7.9 percent to $35,380 compared to January a year earlier. Luxury cars boasted the next-highest rise, at 3.6 percent to $58,533.
