GM issues CUV stop-sale due to Goodyear tires [UPDATE]
Thu, Jan 22 2015UPDATE: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that only 6,281 tires were installed on the CUVs, when in actuality, there were 6,281 CUVs affected by the stop-sale order, totaling 25,124 tires. The story has been edited to reflect this. General Motors has issued a stop-sale order on some 6,300 of its Lambda platform crossovers due to a pending recall on their 18-inch Goodyear Fortera HL tires. The affected vehicles include all three flavors of GM's large CUV platform, consisting of the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave. Goodyear is recalling a total of 48,500 Fortera HL tires after discovering "very small" cracks in the tread, found during internal testing. Of the affected tires, 32,100 were made for GM, Goodyear told Automotive News. According to GM, 6,281 CUVs were fitted with the questionable rubber, totaling 25,124 of the company's 32,100 tires. The remainder were stocked as replacements, a GM rep told Autoblog. The remaining 16,400 tires were built specifically for the aftermarket. Goodyear reports that the cracks do "not indicate a safety issue." Meanwhile, a GM spokesman told AN that stop-sale "will eventually lead to a non-compliance recall by GM." 2020 GMC Sierra Denali 2500 spied for the first time
Fri, May 4 2018It's been a big year for truck debuts. Since January, we've seen the new 2019 Chevy Silverado, 2019 Ram 1500, 2019 Ford Ranger and the 2019 GMC Sierra. Just last week, we drove the new 2018 Ford F-150 Power Stroke diesel. The Silverado, Ram and Sierra HD variants will soon follow. We've even seen a teaser for the Silverado 2500. These new spy shots give us a pretty decent look at the upcoming 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali. Like the Sierra 1500, the new 2500 model looks to be more than just a Silverado with a new face. Even through the camouflage, you can see it has a grille roughly the size of a regulation football field adorned in a sea of chrome. Both the front and rear fender have some significant flares, but it's hard to tell if this is just the covering. It's difficult to tell if the truck has the new MultiPro tailgate, but expect that and the new CarbonPro carbon-fiber bed to carry their way over. We've already seen the dually version of the Silverado. The Sierra 3500 should arrive alongside the other HD variants. Expect a mix of aluminum and steel bodywork, just like the light-duty models. Chevy Trax engineer says GMC version possible
Mon, Dec 8 2014The Buick Encore is doing so well and its platform-mate the Chevrolet Trax has such good reviewer vibes going for it already, that a GMC version hasn't been ruled out. During the recent press launch, Automotive News asked lead engineer Al Manzor if the Trax could wear a GMC-branded suit, to which Manzor replied, "I think that is certainly possible." That's a long way from telling us anything about the probability of a GMC version of the Trax, and a legion of questions would need to be answered before it could happen. How would a GMC version be priced to leave room for the $26,465 GMC Terrain but not eat into sales of the $20,995 Trax or the $24,035 Encore? Or would that matter? Could it primarily be considered to encourage a new faction of The Yukon Set at the compact end, GMC buyers being famously committed to the marque? And of course, would there be a Denali version? It'll probably be a long while before we have any kind of answers, but if you want to see it happen, the door to your campaign of persuasion is at least ajar.
