GMC Hummer pickup and SUV previewed in video, set to be revealed in fall

GMC has just provided us with our first good look at the upcoming Hummer EV pickup and SUV. A video was posted online previewing the two models that also happens to feature LeBron James. From clay sculptures to prototypes in various levels of completeness, GM is allowing the world a sneak preview of what’s to come. A couple of the more revealing images come in silhouette photos of both the truck and SUV at the end of the video. The truck has a big four-door crew cab and an exceptionally small bed behind it. The angle from cab to bed is also notable. ItÂ’s not easy to see exactly whatÂ’s going on since itÂ’s shrouded in darkness, but when we saw the Hummer pickup, it was rocking sail panels that resemble the ones on the truck weÂ’re looking at. The truckÂ’s general shape is off-road oriented with squared-off, sharp lines tracing the entire silhouette. Its big, knobby tires and blocky wheels are clear indicators of what GM was aiming for with this electric pickup. As for the SUV, comparisons to the Ford Bronco four-door will be inevitable. If our eyes are picking up the scale of this photo correctly, though, the Hummer SUV appears to be a slightly larger vehicle than the four-door Bronco is. Although, the wheelbase for the SUV is shorter than that of the Hummer truck. ThatÂ’ll help it off-road. Those small bumpers and short overhangs along with the bumper cutouts should be hugely beneficial to approach and departure angles, as well. Hummer EV prototype View 6 Photos GMCÂ’s shots of the Hummer in the studio are equally as revealing. We can see what looks to be an intense front skid plate and two big tow hooks. In addition to the off-road gear, GMC has allowed a look at the frunk. The front “grille” is one piece with the hood of the truck, so the whole assembly pulls up. That makes for what appears to be a very easy-to-load front trunk compared to other EVs that force you to lift items up and over the front of the car. The whole removable roof assembly is exposed in this video, too. We can see the crossbars that the removable panels attach to and also what the truck looks like with the tops removed. The SUV appeared to have removable roof panels from our short glimpse of it in a studio awhile back. Other new details GM mentioned in the video include Adrenaline Mode, Crab Mode and Next-Gen Super Cruise. We donÂ’t know what Adrenaline Mode or Crab Mode do yet, but theyÂ’re certainly off-road modes that GM has designed specifically for this electric Hummer.

2016 GMC Sierra All Terrain X is cool but no Raptor threat

If you want a brutish off-roader from Ford or Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, you're spoiled for choice. There's the F-150 SVT Raptor, the Jeep Wrangler, and the Ram Rebel and Power Wagon. But since General Motors killed the Hummer brand, it's been without any real competitor to those trucks. The new, special edition GMC Sierra All Terrain X is not going to be that vehicle, but it's close enough to be worth a look. The oft-overlooked Sierra All Terrain's off-road suspension and Eaton locking rear differential give it some real trail credentials. The All Terrain X builds on both with cosmetic and performance upgrades. For most owners, the big draw will be the brawnier 5.3-liter V8. Fitted with a performance exhaust, it should deliver a meatier tone, and according to GMC it bumps output up from 355 to 365 horsepower. The other big performance upgrade comes from the tires, knobby Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac MT mud-terrain-rated things. The tires and their accompanying 18-inch black aluminum wheels are nice touches. Cool as the All Terrain X might be, it strikes us as an odd strategy for the GMC brand. For one, the trail-ready tires and performance exhaust of the All Terrain X don't seem to fit into the more premium market position that GMC occupies. Moreover, Chevy already has an off-road-oriented pickup in the new Colorado Z71 Trail Boss. Visual upgrades like the black bed-mounted sport bar, LED off-road lights, blacked-out accents, and the 18-inch wheels, the look of the All Terrain X is more in line with the Colorado Trail Boss theme. It's just our two cents, but it seems like attaching the All Terrain X's aesthetic to the Silverado would have been a stronger strategy, and would give Colorado buyers a larger off-road-focused truck to aspire to. 2020 GMC Sierra Denali 2500 spied for the first time

It's been a big year for truck debuts. Since January, we've seen the new 2019 Chevy Silverado, 2019 Ram 1500, 2019 Ford Ranger and the 2019 GMC Sierra. Just last week, we drove the new 2018 Ford F-150 Power Stroke diesel. The Silverado, Ram and Sierra HD variants will soon follow. We've even seen a teaser for the Silverado 2500. These new spy shots give us a pretty decent look at the upcoming 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali. Like the Sierra 1500, the new 2500 model looks to be more than just a Silverado with a new face. Even through the camouflage, you can see it has a grille roughly the size of a regulation football field adorned in a sea of chrome. Both the front and rear fender have some significant flares, but it's hard to tell if this is just the covering. It's difficult to tell if the truck has the new MultiPro tailgate, but expect that and the new CarbonPro carbon-fiber bed to carry their way over. We've already seen the dually version of the Silverado. The Sierra 3500 should arrive alongside the other HD variants. Expect a mix of aluminum and steel bodywork, just like the light-duty models.
