Here is a 1974 Ford Gran Torino, replica of the car used in the famous 70s TV show pilot Starsky and Hutch . This Torino was purchased when it was already in great cosmetically and mechanically condition. This Torino was bought specifically with the intent to replicate the 1974 pilot TV show that started it all. This Torino was originally a white car with a vinyl navy blue top which was taken off, the entire car was then painted red and the trademark side white stripe was added. This Torino sports its original H code 351 Cleveland (2V) engine, front bench seat, automatic transmission with column shifter. A dual exhaust was installed and although it is auctioned with its factory 15' wheels and correct hubcaps, a set of brand new American Racing mag wheels (15x7 & 15x8) will be also included.
This car runs excellent! And with just shy of 30 thousand original miles I confidently believe it could be driven across the state worry less. Since its purchased from the original owner this car driven less than 1 thousand miles and was meticulously taken care of, always garaged inside here in Los Angeles. The engine runs extremely smooth with no rattles or no unhealthy noise of any kind, the transmission shifts great, disc brakes in the front and drums in the rear they all are in great condition and stop at will. The car does not leak and fluids of any kind and was never smoked inside. Even A/C blows cold! Everything works perfectly, every gauge every light and every switch is in proper working order except for the clock :( This is a great opportunity to own a fabulous S&H replica of the very first Zebra 3 car for any die-hard fan just like its current owner. Although just 24 pictures can be posted on the auction, the owner has taken an unnecessary amount of pictures that can be emailed to any interested potential buyer. I will add more info and update further details, if any, during the course of the auction. This Torino can be personally inspected and is located in the city of Gardena near the LAX international airport. Title is clear and tags are up to date. I can also assist with overseas shipping. Please email me if any questions or contact me by phone at 323 578 1565 I will try to add a small video clip with the car in running mode. |

UK's Loughborough University improving Ford's 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine
Wed, May 21 2014How much does it cost for college students to study zero emissions vehicles? At Loughborough University in the UK, a new Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) is being built at a cost of a billion pounds ($1.7 billion US). The school has just announce that it will fund a number of grad student positions and is creating a new Chair in Advanced Propulsion Systems, which sounds like a fun job to us. We're weird like that. There will be a total of four professor-type positions in the new Center, including the chair, all focused on teaching students about low-carbon vehicle technologies, specifically electric and hybrid ones. The school is investing 1.5 million pounds ($2.5 million) for the new positions. There is a bigger picture as well, a 26-million pound ($44 million) Advanced Combustion Turbocharged Integrated Variable-valvetrain Engine (ACTIVE) project, which uses funds not only from the school but also from Ford and others. The point of ACTIVE is to study Ford's 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine and "improve further its efficiency and ensure it exceeds 2020 emission regulations." This is already a popular engine for the automaker, and it will need to stay at the bleeding edge of efficiency to remain as important in 2020 as it is today. Loughborough University has been working with automakers on advanced energy technologies for years, for example with Rolls-Royce and fuel cells in 2007 and the Lotus Hotfire engine in 2008. University invests GBP1.5M in advanced propulsion research to advance zero emissions vehicles challenge Loughborough University is investing GBP1.5M over five years in strategic research appointments, inspired by the global challenge to develop the new advanced propulsion technologies required for the move to zero emission vehicles. These appointments reinforce the University's world-class research in low-carbon vehicle technologies, adding new dimensions concerned with electric and hybrid drives. Four appointments will be made, including a Chair in Advanced Propulsion Systems, supported by a number of PhD studentships. The GBP1.5M investment is part of the University's commitment to the recently announced Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) to support the development of new supply chains for low carbon vehicles. APC is an initiative established by the Automotive Council that will see GBP1 billion of investment from government and industry over the next 10 years.

Ford taken to task by gov't for Chicken Tax end-around
Mon, 23 Sep 2013Ford is in a bit of a pickle for importing and selling Turkey-built Transit Connect cargo vans as passenger vehicles in the US, then converting them to commercial-vehicle specification stateside in an effort to bypass a 25-percent tax imposed on vehicles imported for commercial use. Automakers are required to pay a 2.5-percent tax on imported passenger vehicles.
The Blue Oval got into trouble for this in a January ruling in which U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials asked Ford to stop the practice of importing the Transit Connect vehicles with passenger seats, then removing and shredding them. Now Automotive News reports that Ford is appealing the ruling. The 25-percent "Chicken Tax," as the tariff is often called, is 50 years old and was enacted as a response to a German tariff on chickens. Like Ford, Chrysler bypasses the higher tariff, but it does so in a different manner. It partially disassembles Sprinter cargo vans before shipping them to the US, then rebuilds them at a plant in South Carolina.
But the ruling against Ford's strategy states that it "serves no manufacturing or commercial purpose" and is there to "manipulate the tariff schedule," Automotive News reports. As Ford's appeal goes through, it is importing the Transit Connect and paying the higher tax, hoping for a favorable outcome and planning to build the next-generation Transit Connect, which it plans to launch before the end of the year, in Spain.
