1969 Fairlane/torino 428 Cobra Sportsroof, Ram Air, 4 Spd, Bucket Seats on 2040-cars
Hamburg, New Jersey, United States
For sale is my 1969 Ford Cobra SportsRoof (Fastback) built by Ford on the Fairlane/Torino body, but not designated as either. It is painted Presidential Blue. This is a Ram AIr, 4 spd w/Hurst competition shifter, staggered rear shocks, Bucket Seat car which has it's original Build Sheet & Marti Report. It is a beautiful car, gets a lot of attention, and has an interesting history. The original owner purchased the car new in 1969 and the car was sold by his wife in 2005 after he passed away. Early in it's life it was used as a weekend drag racer, before returning to almost stock in the 80's. This Cobra retains many of it's original parts as well as some from it's drag racing days. As a result of racing it is NOT a numbers matching car, but many of the original parts were used to build the replacement engine, including the original heads & 735 CFM Holley carb. This car has all of the hard to find trim pieces in place and in very good to excellent condition. That includes the Headlight & Taillight eyebrow mouldings, the hood lip moulding, the wheel housing mouldings, the 3 "hash marks" on each rear roof panel, the "hockey stick" moulding around the rear side windows. Both bumpers have been rechromed and are in excellent shape. BODY: Very nice with great "deep" paint. Floors are solid, framerails are straight and there is not sign of rust. Jams are very nice as is under hood & trunk area. Entire underside of car was wire-wheeled, cleaned, no rust was found & sprayed with 3M black undercoat on the floors & wheel wells with gray undercoating on the gas tank. DRIVE TRAIN: 428 cubic inch Ram Air, with single plane intake (from racing days) - I have an OEM 428 intake to be included in the sale. 735 CFM Holley with manual choke. Distributor is a Petronics Flame Thrower w/Black Cap. I have the original Autolite distributor to be included in the sale. Engine has a mild cam and runs on premium pump gas. TRANSMISSION: Ford Top Loader 4 speed w/Hurst Competition Plus shifter, shifter assembly & linkage with Hurst "T" Handle. 9" inch Traction Lok rear, 3.50 gears/31 spline axle. The car still retains it's drive shaft safety loop and scatter shield from it's drag racing days. Clutch engages easily and trans shifts smoothly. INTERIOR: Upolstry, Door Panels, Dash, Steering Wheel, Carpet, Headliner, Package Tray are all in great shape with no holes, rips, tears or cracks. Factory 6000 RPM Tach with aftermarket Oil Pressure & Water Temp gauges under dash. All gauges work as they should with the exception of the speedometer being a little "slow" and gas gauge is accurate from half to empty (not a problem for me since I just fill the car each time I use it). From it's drag racing days the heater is by-passed & radio is deleted with a dash delete plate as well as a delete plate for the antenna. (I have the Philco push button AM radio to be included in the sale). SUSPENSION: KYB Heavy Duty shocks at all 4 corners. Rear springs were re-arched & a 5th leaf added. Staggered Rear Shocks unique to 4 speed Cobra's. EXHAUST: 2 1/2 inch exhaust with Flow Master mufflers ( car has a great sound). Long Tube Headers which have probably been on the car from the first day it hit the track!! There is no balancing pipe, but it doesn't seem to effect sound. WHEELS & TIRES: 15" X 7" Specialty Wheels Styled Steel Chrome Rims (I have the 4 original steel styled wheels with trim rings & Goodyear Polyglass F-70 Bias Ply tires. One is in the trunk as the spare and the other three are included in the sale. The 4 original caps are on the car). Tires are Goodyear Eagle GT II, Front P235/60 - 15, Rear P255/60 -15. GLASS: All is very good with "Carlite" markings on side and rear windows, there is a scratch in the passenger side window. All side windows roll up and down with no issues. Overall this is a very nice car that sounds great and draws attention wherever it goes. I have tried to describe my Cobra to the best of my ability, but opinions of classic cars vary, so if you are a serious buyer, have the car inspected prior to the close of bidding. I have clear NJ Title in my name, in my possession. This car is as nice in person as it is in the photos. Please contact me with questions. $1000.00 NON REFUNDABLE deposit & communication is due within 3 days of the auction end. The balance is due in full within 7 days of the auctions end & must be paid via wire transfer, cashier's check or cash in person. The car will not leave my garage until all funds have been cleared through my bank. This car is sold "as is where is" with no warranties or quarantees expressed or implied. Shipping/Transportation is the responsibility of the Buyer, I will be glad to help facilitate loading if needed. Your bid is a COMMITTMENT TO BUY, it is a legal and binding contract to purchase the vehicle. Any inspection fees are the responsibility of the BUYER. This car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to cancel this auction at anytime. I reserve the right to cancel bids from bidders with negative feedback. Bidders with a bid retraction history or zero feedback must contact me for approval to bid. All bidders must be 18 years or older. |

Daimler consulting with Ford about 3-cylinder engines
Mon, 27 May 2013Soon enough, Ford will offer its 1.0-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder engine under the hood of the Fiesta here in the United States, building on the success of the small powerplant overseas. In fact, this success has caused other automakers to take notice, and according to Automotive News Europe, Daimler is now talking to Ford about this engine for use in its own products.
In other markets, Ford offers the 1.0-liter mill under the hood of the Focus (we had the chance to sample this package on our home turf), as well as the B-Max MPV. For this new collaboration, Daimler would use the turbo-three in the next-generation Smart ForTwo, as well as the Renault Twingo, which the German automaker will be collaborating on as part of its alliance with Renault-Nissan. Speaking to AN, a Mercedes-Benz engineer called the 1.0-liter mill an "interesting and impressive engine."
In exchange for details about the EcoBoost inline-three, Daimler will supply Ford with information regarding its Euro6 stratified lean-burn gasoline engine, which is found in the new E-Class sedan.
Are you the next Ford Edge? [UPDATE]
Wed, 13 Feb 2013What looks to be the next Ford Edge has been leaked in an apparent corporate Powerpoint presentation deck. Despite the thumbnail image's blurry and pixelated quality, it appears as if the next generation crossover will be staying close to its current aesthetic despite an all-new front clip with redesigned grille, headlamps, and lower fascia with integrated fog lights.
The upscale-minded Blue Oval CUV is due for a redesign in 2015, having just received a mid-cycle refresh for 2011. It isn't clear what changes lie beneath the new skin, either in terms of mechanicals or interior refinement, but we suspect Ford will be looking to put some distance between the next generation model and the new Escape, which is suddenly much more car-like and not that far off the more expensive Edge in terms of overall size, power or refinement.
UPDATE: Substituted clearer image - thanks, Sean!
Ford vandalizes the SEMA Show floor with 2014 Transit Connect
Tue, 05 Nov 2013The Ford booth here at SEMA is practically a 1970s throwback with all these customized vans sitting front and center. And we're completely fine with that. Take the black and yellow (black and yellow, black and yellow) 2014 Transit Connect from Mobsteel above. It's got a great stance, sits on steel wheels and has a pretty cool paint job and graphics package to boot.
Of course, that's not the only van you can see at the Ford booth. In fact, there are 10 Transit Connect vans on display from Ford here at SEMA, and you can see them all in our live gallery of high-res images above. Then, if you want to know more about each specific model, feel free to scroll down to read all about these vans in the official press release from Ford.
