1968 Ford Torino Gt Fastback Cobra Jet Super Rare on 2040-cars
Forest Hills, New York, United States
Up for bid is a super rare and true 1968 1/2 Ford Torino GT Fastback Cobra Jet. All original with the exception of a respray over 20 years ago. This is a numbers matching car from bumper to bumper, factory markings all over the car and a Black Plate Cali car. The Torino came from Galpin Ford, the only Torino Cobra Jet to leave the famous California dealership in 1968, still has the dealer plate frame as well. The GT came with 3:91 gears, C6 Automatic Transmission, Candyapple Red paint with Black GT Stripes and black interior, bucket seats and floor console. This is also a multiple magazine car and has won tons of trophies wherever she goes. She has 58,973 origonal miles. This is a 2 owner car, one of which is a fairlane club of America judge. No rust anywhere and still has the origonal factory mufflers underneath. This is a 1/660 Torino CJ's that were built in 1968, not sure how many are still out their, I have searched everywhere and have not found one, let alone in this condition. Like I said the factory markings are everywhere, has all origonal paperwork, including window sticker, owners card, build sheets, sales invoice, whatever the dealer gave to new car owners back in 1968, she has it all and than some. The Torino also has several interesting stories; When the origonal owner purchased the car, he asked the dealer to remove the 3.91 gears because he had decided to use it for work and wanted better gas mileage. The dealer removed the 3.91 gears and replaced them with the more economic 3.50 gears that are still on the car today, the origonal gears are still in the Galpin box, packed in grease to this day and with me as well as the origonal battery, let me say that again, the origonal battery is still with the car, but not in the car but with me, as well as the orig battery sheild. On April 18, 1971, the owner drove from California to Las Vegas with some friends for the weekend, when he came back to the car the license plates were stolen off the car, he went to the local police department and got a report for his stolen plate. The person that took the report was non other than "Sheriff Ralph lamb" (see origonal letter and envelope). Sheriff Ralph Lamb is one of the most famous Sheriff's in US history. He was responsible for stopping the Mob back in the late 60's and early 70's and pretty much single handedly stopped them from completly taking over Las Vegas. Their is a show about him called "Vegas" on CBS, i believe the show has moved from CBS to a cable channel today. The Sheriff is still alive and kicking and still makes his home in Las Vegas today, I have spoken to him several times, he was amzed at the letter and envelope and the story. Bottom line is the Torino is a super rare 1968 1/2 Torino GT Fastback Cobra Jet, numbers matching block, heads, intake, Carb Transmission, rear end etc... They only made a handful of these in 1968 and I have tried my best to search for others and have failed, could not find a single one, let alone in this condition, this is a true survivor with one respray 20 yaers ago. This car belongs in a Ford Museum, no doubt, gets crowds of people around it and tons of calls from mgazines. The underside of the car still ahs red oxide everywhere, very creepy how she has stayed the way she has, rarely driven except for local shows and cruises. I know I am leaving more details out, so much to talk about...

2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost loses big power on 87 octane
Mon, Jan 5 2015The 2015 Ford Mustang with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder is a pretty potent package on paper. With 310 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque, it boasts better performance numbers than the 3.7-liter V6, but with better fuel economy as an added benefit. However, if you're in the market for one of these boosted 'Stangs, you should probably keep in mind that it really prefers to gulp premium, 93-octane fuel. It can drink 87-octane swill in a pinch, but you're going to find significantly less power underfoot when pulling away. While it's not shocking that the ponies are dialed back with a lower grade of gasoline, an alleged page from a Ford training manual obtained by Mustang 6G purports to show just how much power is lost, though. According to this document, the 2.3-liter EcoBoost makes 275 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque when running on lower octane fuel. That's a substantial reduction of about 11.3 percent compared to when the engine drinks 93 octane. Interestingly, according to Mustang 6G, that finding was a bit better than expected, because a Ford engineer reportedly said power would be down about 13 percent without altering peak torque. In speaking with Autoblog, Paul Seredynski of Ford powertrain communications, objected to part of this document. While he couldn't confirm the specific losses listed for the Mustang EcoBoost, "torque remains unchanged" with lower octane gasoline, Seredynski said. He speculated this training manual page was "possibly from before the engine was certified" and therefore showed incorrect figures. Serendynski did confirm that the automaker recommends using 93 octane, and like all modern engines, the software adapts if it's lower. "Peak power would be reduced" by using a lesser grade, he confirmed. Ford opens research center in Silicon Valley
Fri, Jan 23 2015These days, the software running a vehicle's myriad of electronic systems seems to be getting nearly as much development focus from automakers as the traditional mechanical parts that keep a car going. Constantly improving that technology requires a lot of experimentation, though, and Ford is expanding its presence in Silicon Valley with the just-opened Research and Innovation Center Palo Alto to make that progress possible. Ford opened its first office in the country's technological hub in 2012 to draw talent and devise ways to deal with vast amounts of sensor data. Apparently, setting up shop in Silicon Valley was deemed a success because the Blue Oval decided to create this new lab in the Stanford Research Park to focus on five areas: connectivity, mobility, autonomous vehicles, customer experience and analytics. Among the center's potential projects, Ford is hoping to develop better natural speech recognition, which is absolutely vital for improving infotainment systems. Assuming the tech eventually works well enough, your voice might even be used to adjust a vehicle's power seats, according to the automaker. The Blue Oval is also letting engineers from Stanford University test autonomous driving algorithms on a self-driving version of the Fusion. In a smaller stakes venture, researchers are working to get a Nest smart thermometer to automatically adjust the temperature at home depending on if an owner's vehicle is leaving or coming back. To really show that its serious about these ventures, Ford hired Dragos Maciuca away from Apple as the center's technical leader. The automaker also wants to have 125 researchers at work there by the end of the year.
European car sales up 8% in February
Sat, 22 Mar 2014Three weeks ago an analyst increased projections for European car sales this year, expecting them to climb three percent compared to last year instead of 2.7 percent. That number is a postive sign after years of hard times but it turns out February was especially good, overall European sales climbing eight percent on a wave of southern European recovery and discounts - and this comes after five months of gains including January's 7.2-percent jump over the year before.
The only country of Europe's five largest markets to post a decline was France, just as it did in January, Germany, the UK and Italy posting solid double-digit numbers, Spain rocking the charts with an 18-percent increase because of a government program to encourage trade-ins.
The only brand to miss the wave was Volkswagen, dropping 0.8 percent as it watched the double-digit growth at sister brands Audi, Seat and Skoda lift the Volkswagen Group sales up by seven-percent. Peugeot overcame flat sales at Citroën to improve the group by 3.5 percent, BMW and the Mercedes-Benz/Smart combo rose by four percent, the Fiat group jumped 5.8 percent, Ford was up 11 percent, the Renault Group 11.5 percent, General Motors 12 percent and the Toyota clan by 14 percent.
