Up for auction is a 1994 Ford ThunderBird. The car is stock with one exception, under the hood is a 32 valve DOHC InTech 4.6 liter V8. The motor is similar to that of the Mustang Cobra of 2002 through 2004 with the exception of the supercharger. Also the Mercury Marauder has the DOHC engine as well. This motor was liberated from a 1995 Lincoln Mark VIII with only 65k miles on it. The swap was done 3 and a half years ago and after not quite a year of driving it was parked due to the lack of interest of my friend I helped do the swap.

The Good;

 The car comes with an SCT Programmer loaded with a custom tune done by Lonnie Doll of Blue Oval Chips, Inc. It is not a radical tune, as the engine is stock, so it runs great on regular 89-octane fuel. All the engine wiring is stock with the exception of an added MSD Window Switch, which opens the additional 8 intake runners at 3000 RPM. The 3000-RPM “Pill” can be changed to any RPM you desire. The brakes are good with a recent brake flush and bleed. The transmission shifts good and firm. The radiator and thermostat is new with a strong stock electric fan and does not over heat. AC blows cold, though the compressor cycles on and off, I’m not sure if that is computer controlled or if the refrigerant is low. The interior is fair, the driver seat has separated stitching and splitting. The headliner, sunroof shade and sun visors have all been reupholstered. The project was sanded and put in primer for paint, which was never completed. The original color of the T-Bird was green, but the car has been “jammed” (doors, inner engine compartment and trunk in black) not very well though. Over all she is a good runner with lots of power.

The Bad;

 I don’t think my friend ever took the car for an alignment after the engine swap (the motor comes out of the bottom, which entails unbolting some of the suspension alignment components). Also there is a pull when driving, so an alignment is in order. The exhaust is stock and there is a leak, it is small but noticeable. When my friend called on me to “save” the car, it had been sitting for almost 2 years in his workplace parking lot. The tires, though plenty of tread is on them, are all mismatched and dry rotted. He said he started the car regularly, but it has developed a transmission pan leak. There is some bodywork left to do. Crack in the windscreen. There is a dent on the driver side, beneath the rear window as well as a small ding in the hood. Other than that and a couple of nicks, the body is great! The rear spoiler did not come factory installed on this car, and is currently not mounted due to sanding and primer. Mounting holes are drilled, and I have the correct factory bolts for it. Ready for the color of your choice.

The Ugly;

…None really, just needs some love. It is a good car as it is, it's what Ford should have done for a Super Coupe. I have been truthful in my description and always honest on my auctions. If you have ANY question, please feel free to ask. Thanks, Skagg.

Ward's reveals annual 10 Best Engines list for 2013

Thu, 13 Dec 2012

Ward's Auto has released its annual 10 Best Engines award winners. The 2013 list covers the full width and breadth of the internal combustion spectrum, from a spate of efficient four-cylinders to the most powerful production V8 on the planet. As always, the entries must be available in a production vehicle in the first quarter of 2013 with an MSRP of less than $55,000. The supercharged 3.0-liter V6 from the Audi S5 held on for the fourth consecutive year, and BMW earned two spots on the list with its turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder and turbo 3.0-liter inline-six.
Ford pulled in two awards for its 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder and and the supercharged 5.8-liter V8 from the Shelby GT500. Honda matched BMW and Ford with two wins of its own. Wards awarded the 2.4-liter four-cylinder from the Honda Accord Sport as well as the 3.5-liter V6 from the Honda Accord. Chrysler, General Motors and Subaru each garnered a spot on the list as well for the 3.6-liter V6 in the Ram 1500, the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the Cadillac ATS and the 2.0-liter four-cylinder the Subaru BRZ, respectively. eBay Find Of The Day: 1988 Saleen Ford Mustang General Tire 21R race car

Tue, 29 Jul 2014

Saleen may be making headlines these days for working on the Tesla Model S, but its history and bread-and-butter is all about the Ford Mustang. The rear-wheel-drive Dearborn pony cars singlehandedly put the company on the map in the '80s. Founder Steve Saleen was already a talented American racing driver when he started the venture, and like many auto industry businesses before him, Saleen went to the track to prove his vehicles' worth. Now, there's a chance to buy one of those early racers on eBay Motors.
Saleen Mustangs raced in the Sports Car Club of America Escort Endurance Championship - a series of multi-hour races meant to challenge man and machine. Ostensibly a showroom stock class, the cars had larger wheels, tuned suspensions and other upgrades that stretched the concept slightly. Saleen found major success though, taking the championship for its class in 1987 and winning the 24 Hours of Mosport consecutively from 1986 through 1988.
According to the seller, Saleen only built eight of these cars, and this one carries the #21R serial number. They all started life as new Mustangs from Ford dealers but were immediately stripped and prepped to go racing. Beyond obvious mods like a roll cage, they featured eight-inch wide wheels in front, an inch of additional track width, stiffer suspension bushings and much more.

Alan Mulally talks about why Ford's Falcon had to die

Tue, 20 Aug 2013

When Ford made the decision to end production of the Falcon sedan and Territory CUV in Australia, it wasn't a popular move Down Under. The large, four-door Falcon had been in production for 50 years, and while Ford has reaffirmed its commitment to the Australian market, it's understandable that some people still aren't all that crazy about the Blue Oval's decision.
Speaking to CEO Alan Mulally after Ford's Go Further event in Sydney, Australian site Go Auto reports that the decision was not one made lightly, and that the automaker is doing everything possible to respect the Falcon and Territory's "stakeholders." It's an interesting piece that shows a softer side of a corporation, while demonstrating that Ford is doing everything in its power to make the end of production as smooth as possible for all parties.
Head over to Go Auto for the full series of remarks from Mulally, and then let us know what you think of Ford's handling of the Falcon and Territory discontinuations, in Comments.
