UP FOR SALE IS A LIMITED BILL ELLIOT SPECIAL EDITION SUPER COUPE. MY FATHER IS ONLY THE SECOND OWNER OF A CAR WITH ONLY 72,XXX MILES. THE MILES WILL ONLY CHANGE SLIGHTLY AS I DRIVE IT OCCASIONALLY. THIS CAR IS ABSOLUTELY IMMACULATE AND RUNS AND DRIVES LIKE A DREAM. THE PREVIOUS OWNER BABIED IT, AS WE DO ALSO. IF I NEEDED ANOTHER CAR, I WOULD KEEP IT, BUT I DON'T SO SOMEONE ELSE WILL GET TO ENJOY IT. IT IS GENUINELY LIKE NEW. THERE ISN'T EVEN THE SLIGHTEST HINT OF ROAD RASH ON THE PERFECT FACTORY WHEELS. THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR IS THE ERRONEOUS CARFAX. THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND I HAVE TRIED, TO NO AVAIL SO FAR, TO HAVE THE ERROR REMOVED. THE CARFAX STATES THAT IT WAS A TOTAL LOSS IN OCTOBER 2002. THIS IS FALSE. THE PREVIOUS OWNERS INS CO HAS NO RECORD OF ANY ACCIDENT, MUCH LESS A TOTAL LOSS. WE ALSO TOOK IT TO OUR LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP HERE IN ALABAMA AND TO A LOCAL INDEPENDENT BODY SHOP AND HAD IT THOROUGHLY INSPECTED. THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY EVIDENCE OF ANY ACCIDENT. I HAVE A COMPLAINT AND CLAIM NUMBER IN WITH CARFAX TO HAVE THIS REMOVED. I ALSO RESEARCHED COMPLAINTS WITH THE BBB AND IT SEEMS THAT THIS HAPPENS OFTEN WITH CARFAX AND IS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE ANY HEADWAY WITH THE CARFAX ORGANIZATION. I WILL POST ANY UPDATES TO THE PROGRESS OF THE CLAIM. ALSO, I INVITE ANY PROSPECTIVE BUYER TO HAVE THE CAR THOROUGHLY INSPECTED BY THEIR OWN MECHANIC AND/OR SHOP BEFORE PURCHASING FOR THEIR OWN VERIFICATION. THANK YOU FOR LOOKING! HAPPY BIDDING!

Court puts kibosh on apartheid lawsuit against Ford, Daimler

Thu, 22 Aug 2013

Ford and Daimler have scored a major victory in a long-running lawsuit filed in US federal court by unnamed South African nationals. The suit alleges that both manufacturers and their subsidiaries sold their vehicles to the South African military, despite knowing that they'd be involved in violently putting down anti-apartheid protesters.
According to Reuters, South African plaintiffs filed the case under the 223-year-old Alien Torts Statute, a law which allows foreign nationals to file charges in US courts for perceived breaches of what was originally international law, but now more closely relates to violations of human rights.
And while the case - which also involves computer manufacturer IBM - has been tied up in federal courts for years, a recent case from the Supreme Court struck down a similar suit against Royal Dutch Petroleum (Shell), arguing that the ATS doesn't apply to corporations or to conduct if it occurred outside the US. In short, the law applies to individuals, but not corporations like Ford or Daimler. A US appeals court ruled that the conditions apply in this case, potentially drawing this long-running saga to a close, as the defendants will now be allowed to request that the case be dismissed in district court.

Project Ugly Horse: Part V

The Slippery Slope
I've had a healthy appreciation for cars that stop since one truly unfortunate incident with a runaway 1971 Lincoln Continental.
It's funny how quickly a party can turn from, "We're all having blast" to "What happened to the front of the house, and how many stitches do you think this is going to take?" Standing in a Mustang salvage shop in Kodak, Tennessee, I couldn't help but feel I had strayed into the latter territory with Ugly Horse. There was a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 plucked from a rear-ended Cobra sitting off to my left. The shelves were lined with second-hand Roush and SVT components galore, but I couldn't stop staring at a set of rotors with the approximate diameter of my chest.

Ex-PR chief Vines accuses Ford of bugging cars, phones

Fri, 24 Oct 2014

Jason Vines, former head of communications at Ford among other automakers, is accusing the Blue Oval of bugging his company phone and his car during the Firestone tire recall for the Explorer in 2001. The allegations have come to light in Vines' upcoming book What Did Jesus Drive? Crisis PR in Cars, Computers and Christianity.
According to The Detroit News, which has an advance copy of the book, Vines (pictured above) claims that after leaving the company, someone with security within Ford advised him that he had been bugged around the time of the recall. The allegations don't stop there, though. Vines further contends that he might not have been the only one to get this treatment, noting that then-general counsel John Rintamaki also believed he was being listened to.
According to The Detroit News, even if it had been a company phone, recording Vines without his knowledge still would have been a felony under Michigan law.
