This is a 1992 Ford T Bird Sport Edition with only 51,000 miles. This car is extremely rare and is in new condition. This Thunderbird is a one owner car in untouched condition. The paint is Opel Grey and is original with no paint work anywhere on the car. The paint looks brand new with not one scratch or blemishes. There is a dime size ding on the front driver side of the hood which could probably be removed with PDR. All surrounding moldings and trim unique to the sport edition are perfect with no signs of wear or defect. The interior is in mint like new condition with the factory new smell. There is a small crack on the dash near the radio. That is the only defect in the interior. Carpets, seats, door panels, console, etc. show no wear and look new. The undercarriage of the car looks like brand new with no signs of even being wet. Exhaust looks like new and much of the bottom side of the car looks new with no leaks and not one speck of any rust or corrosion. The wheels look brand new and have no scrapes or scuffs on any of them. Tires are close to new and are matching 215 70 R15 Pirelli's. The engine compartment is untouched and looks like it should with this mileage. The 5.0 High Output motor runs perfect. The car drives like new including transmission and rear. The car drives straight no pull or and kind of shake associated with the steering. Everything works on the vehicle including the sunroof, air conditioning, radio, antenna, gauges, etc.  It appears that nothing was ever stored in the trunk which has the original spare never mounted on the car. The car is completely original except for the battery and tires. This car looks close to new as you can get and would be worthy of display at car shows! The vehicle comes with all original books, warranty cards, dealer information, and the window sticker! This is a rare find and I do not think there are many of these cars left out there. Good luck bidding! The car is available for viewing.

Watch how Ken Block spent his weekend in Barbados

Thu, 22 May 2014

Regardless of what you think of his skill as a racer, Ken Block is an expert showman. At this point, he has a career of showing up around the world to do vehicular stunts, and he's still able to go racing as well. It's a pretty sweet niche to carve out. Recently, Block was in Barbados to participate in Top Gear Live and the first event of the Global Rallycross Championship season, and Ford Racing produced a short video to show off his exploits.
It looked like a great show. Block got to race Lewis Hamilton in a Mercedes-Benz Formula One car and had a very weird crash during a Rallycross race that put his Ford Fiesta on its roof. Top Gear also released an extended look at Block and Hamilton's spectacle with the two of them expertly sliding around. Scroll down to watch the videos and get a taste of Block's tropical racing adventure.

Is it time for American carmakers to give up on dual-clutch transmissions? [w/poll]

Mon, 22 Jul 2013

Last week, in the midst of Detroit's first days seeking relief in Chapter 9 of the bankruptcy code, Automotive News contributor Larry P. Vellequette penned an editorial suggesting that American car companies raise the white flag on dual clutch transmissions and give up on trying to persuade Americans to buy cars fitted with them. Why? Because, Vellequette says, like CVT transmissions, they "just don't sound right or feel right to American drivers." (Note: In the article, it's not clear if Vellequette is arguing against wet-clutch and dry-clutch DCTs or just dry-clutch DCTs, which is what Ford and Chrysler use.) The article goes on to state that Ford and Chrysler have experimented with DCTs and that both consumers and the automotive press haven't exactly given them glowing reviews, despite their quicker shifts and increased fuel efficiency potential compared to torque-converter automatic transmissions.
Autoblog staffers who weighed in on the relevance of DCTs in American cars generally disagreed with the blanket nature of Vellequette's statement that they don't sound or feel right, but admit that their lack of refinement compared to traditional automatics can be an issue for consumers. That's particularly true in workaday cars like the Ford Focus and Dodge Dart, both of which have come in for criticism in reviews and owner surveys. From where we sit, the higher-performance orientation of such transmissions doesn't always meld as well with the marching orders of everyday commuters (particularly if drivers haven't been educated as to the transmission's benefits and tradeoffs), and in models not fitted with paddle shifters, it's particularly hard for drivers to use a DCT to its best advantage.
Finally, we also note that DCT tuning is very much an evolving science. For instance, Autoblog editors who objected to dual-clutch tuning in the Dart have more recently found the technology agreeable in the Fiat 500L. Practice makes perfect - or at least more acceptable.
