1965 Ford Thunderbird Base 6.4l 390 Cid - 2 Door Ford T-bird on 2040-cars
Encino, California, United States
For Sale by Owner: 1965 FORD THUNDERBIRD (390 cid)
I bought this car 6 months ago for $3,000, Then spent another $1500 and two months of my time and energy to restore it. I purchased it from an older gentleman who bought it originally and owned it until 2009. He let it sit in his garage for a long time, until l came along and brought it back to life. Restoring has been going well, but now my job is relocating me and I need to move & own 3 other classics. This is a great project car for someone who wants to enjoy restoring a vehicle that runs good. Clean title. I have the rear fender skirts and original hub caps *(which are not in these pictures) located in the trunk It drives nice, needs exhaust gaskets, paint, carpet & some interior work.... Work I've done: Tune Up, Oil change, air filter, cap & rotor Rebuilt Carburetor Replaced Gas Tank Replaced Fuel Sending Unit Replaced Gas Nozzle tube Transmission serviced Fixed the wiring and dash lights, they light up really nice. Small fixes and straightened out a lot of misc details Detailed the engine compartment and used liquid dyes in the transmission and engine oils to trace & stop leaks I put about 2 months of work into this car to get it to run smooth and the next person can at least drive it or move it around while restoring it and not worry about jumping it and towing it. Battery keeps charge well. this car looks horrible without a paint job, but the body is completely straight. there are small normal surface rust areas above side rear molding *(see picture) this has always been a California vehicle. I prefer a local buyer who can come pick it up, but I am open to serious buyers elsewhere but BUYER PAYS FOR ALL SHIPPING/TRANSPORTATION COSTS. thank you for reading my page & good luck bidding. On Jun-09-14 at 20:54:38 PDT, seller added the following information: I added a few more detailed pictures of the front bumper & grill, the front driver's and passenger's floor boards and the trunk. A few updates: I replaced & installed a new master cylinder today. & I also bought an original Jack & tire iron and a tire - just needs spare rim. I'm going to keep working on it until someone buys it. The passenger floor board has a small hole *(size of a small pen) on the side, where I can see a spec of light. So there is a little rust but: When I had it up in the air & looked from underneath: it looks good but needs small patch work done on the passenger front side. Driver's side looks good, both sides has a little surface rust but does NOT need a total replacement of floor boards. The trunk is in nice condition & does NOT need rust repairing. Any surface rust on this entire vehicle is sandable and normal for this condition, which is really good for the way it has been preserved. I'm already into this car for twice what I listed it for, due to my need to sell it quickly >> I'm moving from a home to a townhouse... I have a 67 Continental convertible & 65 Impala and those cars are all I can handle right now.... Please message me for any other questions or you can call me at - 818 263 5570 Thanks On Jun-10-14 at 20:30:35 PDT, seller added the following information: After receiving more requests to upload pictures, I put the hub caps on and the rear fender skirts so everyone can see they are included and then took some more pictures so everyone can see how straight the body is. As I said I'm going to keep working on this vehicle until it sells. Thank you for the helpful tips and inquires, I hope this vehicle goes to someone who loves T-birds and finishes it the right way. |

Consumer Reports declares most and least loved cars [w/video]
Wed, Dec 3 2014Consumer Reports is crunching the numbers from its annual owner-satisfaction survey, and part of that process is finding out how attached drivers are to their cars. CR simply asks readers of models up to three years old if they would buy the same vehicle again in light of their entire ownership experience, and tallies the results. After looking at the responses for about 350,000 vehicles, it turns out that people really love a certain California-built, electrically powered luxury sedan. That's right, this year's the overall winner was the Tesla Model S with a whopping 98 percent of owners saying they would purchase another one (the Model S also won this award last year, with 99 percent satisfaction). The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray came in a close second with 95 percent of drivers hoping to park another one in their garage. A few models weren't quite so favored, though. The Nissan Versa Sedan was the least loved model among its owners; a mere 42 percent said that they would purchase another. The aging Jeep Compass didn't do much better, with just 43 percent of drivers willing to buy the softroader again. On average, about 70 percent of owners say they would buy their car again, and only four cars ranked below 50 percent in CR's findings. Check out the video above to see some of the winners and losers in a few of CR's categories. If you're a subscriber, you can check out the full list on its website. Ford adds third shift at F-150 plant to keep up with demand
Tue, 06 Aug 2013The signs have been very positive for Ford's F-Series line of pickup trucks as of late, and after 24 consecutive months of increasing sales of the best-selling F-150, the automaker has added a third production crew at its Kansas City Assembly Plant that includes 900 new hourly workers to meet demand for the truck. This the first step in Ford's plan to add 2,000 hourly jobs at the plant to help meet demand for its trucks and to begin production of the new Transit van, the automaker says.
Despite some tough new competition, sales of the F-Series are the strongest they've been since 2006, according to Ford. The automaker sold 60,449 F-Series in July, the best sales figure for the mid-summer month since 2006, which also represents a 23 percent increase compared to July 2012. From January to July 2013, sales were up 22 percent compared to the same period last year.
Ford has committed to creating 12,000 hourly jobs by 2015, and with the 900 new employees added to the assembly plant in Missouri, the company says it has completed 75 percent of its goal. Ford has also invested $1.1 billion to retool and expand the Kansas City Assembly Plant to ready it for Transit production. Take a look at the press release below for more job and F-Series sales information.
Jaguar design boss admits X-Type was a mistake
Thu, 19 Sep 2013History has a way of repeating itself, especially in the auto industry. When Jaguar was owned by Ford, the British brand attempted to field a competitor for the BMW 3 Series, called the X-Type. Based on the bones of a Ford Mondeo, it aped the styling of Jaguar's flagship model, the XJ, while borrowing liberally from the Ford parts bin. That was 2001.
Now, in 2013, Jaguar is planning a new 3 Series challenger based on the platform previewed by the C-X17 Concept, while Ford is attempting to take the latest Mondeo upmarket. The moves have both brands recognizing where, why, and how the X-Type failed. "It didn't look mature or powerful or anything. It was just a car," Jaguar's current head of advanced design, Julian Thomson, told PistonHeads. Basing the X-Type on a front-drive car while giving it styling that was meant for a rear-driver lead to proportions that "were plainly wrong," Thomson told PH. Ford's European head of quality, Gunnar Herrmann, added that the X-Type was "a fake Jaguar, because every piece I touch is Ford."
For what it's worth, the X-Type's successor in the segment will sport rear-drive, with plenty of input from Ian Callum. Thomson described the new model, which would challenge the 3 Series as having, "Big wheels right to the ends of the car, low bonnet, short overhangs, very low cabins." Sounds good to us.
