1963 Ford Thunderbird 2-door Coupe on 2040-cars
Los Angeles, California, United States
Selling a 1963 Ford Thunderbird two-door hardtop with a 390 V8 engine andautomatic transmission. It has been a California car from day one: my fatherpurchased it back in the mid-1960s, so if he’s not the original owner, the caris as close to a one-owner as you’re likely to see for a car of this vintage. The car runs and drives as it should, and the odometer reads 14823 miles. Myfather had the entire drive train rebuild back in the early 2000s, but becausehe was getting on in age and wasn’t driving much anymore, it has only a fewhundred miles on it since then. The car was painted at around that time (early2000s) in the original color, but will need it again. The body is otherwise ingood condition with virtually no rust or dents. The car also comes with the realwheel skirts. The brakes were completely redone in 2016.Apart from a split inthe driver’s seat upholstery that will need attention, the original blue vinylinterior is in very good condition. In the mid-2000s, my father had a mechanicfriend remove the door panels to fix a problem with the power windows; they arein the trunk. The car has AC, power windows, and power steering, and thesteering wheel shifts to the side for easy in and out. The car is all originaland complete (no missing parts, etc.) and would make an excellent, relativelyeasy and straight-forward restoration project for the right I just don’t have the time or skills to restore it myself, so Iam hopeful its next owner will give it the restoration it deserves. I have donemy best to describe the car as accurately as I can and will do my best to answerany questions you may have. Bear in mind that the car is sold as is where iswith no warranties expressed or implied. Title is free and clear and car iscurrently registered with correct vintage black and gold CA plates.

EPA says fuel economy test for hybrids is accurate
Mon, 26 Aug 2013
The EPA says it stands behind its fuel economy test for hybrid vehicles following controversy about the testing process after Ford C-Max Hybrid customers and automotive journalists alike struggled to achieve 47 miles per gallon, the advertised mpg number, Automotive News reports. Ford responded to the issue almost two weeks ago by claiming that a 1970s-era EPA general label rule was responsible for the inaccurate mileage numbers, rerating the C-Max Hybrid's mpg numbers and offering customers rebates. Ford later said it didn't overstate the C-Max Hybrid's fuel economy and that it was surprised by the low numbers.
Ford technically didn't do anything wrong because it was following the general label rule, but agency regulator Christopher Grundler says the automaker was exploiting a loophole when it came up with the hybrid C-Max numbers, and that the testing process remains accurate. The general label rule allows vehicles that use the same engine and transmission and are in the same weight class to share fuel economy numbers, but it doesn't take into account other factors such as aerodynamic efficiency, which affects hybrids more drastically than non-hybrid vehicles. Ford originally used the Fusion Hybrid economy figures for the C-Max Hybrid and claimed the engineers didn't realize that its aerodynamic efficiency would affect fuel economy as much as it did.
Volkswagen could outsell GM in China for the first time in nine years
Fri, 27 Dec 2013As of the end of November, Volkswagen had sold 70,000 more cars than General Motors in China in 2013, making it appear inevitable that VW will outsell GM there. The feat would return the German brand to the top of chart in China for the first time in nine years, but even the second-place getter won't be complaining too loudly: both automakers sold more than three million vehicles in a market pegged to hit 16 million sales this year.
Volkswagen said it could have sold more cars if it had had more production capacity in China. The arrival of a new-to-China Audi A4, a China-built A3 sedan, the VW Bora and Skoda Octavia, as well as an $18.2-billion-euro investment in the country to construct new factories, means VW should see its numbers grow in 2014. GM's lineup is expanding next year, too, adding four Chevrolet nameplates and two vehicles to its Baojun brand as it tries to get to five million in sales by 2015.
Among other automakers, Ford benefited from good product and woes for Japanese automakers over a territorial dispute with China, outselling Toyota by almost 32,000 units through the end of November. The Ford Focus is China's best-selling vehicle so far this year.
Chevy Silverado frame twist test a marketing victory versus Ford
Thu, 16 Oct 2014The pickup market is so competitive that all three major American makers are constantly trying to find a way to prove their product is the best. The new 2015 Ford F-150 is grabbing headlines at the moment by winning awards and posting segment best numbers. But in a new video, Chevrolet is taking aim squarely at the 2015 F-250 Super Duty in a battle of heavy-duty truck supremacy against the 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500HD... well, in a single metric anyway.
The big numbers from pickups often come down to payload, towing rating and fuel economy, but for this test, Chevy and Howie Long are challenging the torsional rigidity of the trucks' frames, specifically which one flexes less. Long plays the everyman here having the Chevy engineer explain what's going on in the tests. Unsurprisingly for a video on Chevy's official YouTube page, the 2500HD wins out by a good margin. The company also reports that similar results as shown here have been certified in third-party testing.
Check out the video to see the full test. While this might seem like a marketing win for Chevy, Ford isn't immune to it, either. In 2009, the Blue Oval uploaded a similar video comparing the flex under 225 pounds of weight from the bare frames of the F-150, Chevy Silverado, Dodge Ram (as it was still called at the time) and the Toyota Tundra. The results fell in the Blue Oval's favor, as you can see here.
