Only a few of you know how rare these Thunderbirds are with the factory M-Code option. Between January 1962 and January 1963 they made only 200 or so M-Code Thunderbirds in 4 different body styles. The Hardtop Coupe, the Roadster, the Landaus, and the Convertible. This is an incredible find and is fully documented with everything need to prove its authenticity. In my hands are the original build sheet, the original factory invoice, the original dealer invoice, original tax clearance certificate, original owners manual, original wiring diagram manual, and the original data plate and R.O.T. plate.

The history of these M-Code cars are very fascinating. According to The Henry Ford Museum responding to Mr. William A. Wonder (The guru himself) dating back to February 9th 1983 Ford corporate only had figures available for the Sport Roadster versions of the M-Code. The other cars and production numbers have been obtained and documented to the best of anyone's ability through various collections of V.T.C.A newsletters, The Vintage Thunderbird Club of America, Hemmings Motor News, and The Thunderbird Registry. Back in 1962 there was never a road test published on these M-Code cars when new and very rarely is there any reference even made as to the availability of this special option.

Another contributing factor mentioned by The Henry Ford Museum was that many of the M-Code owners may have been disappointed with the performance and were also disappointed in the problems that often associated with multi-carburetor set ups that led to Ford Motor Company replacing the Tri-power set ups  4 single carb version under factory warranty!! This particular car was one of those cars. Compiled by William A. Wonder himself this particular car was purchased by a gentleman for his wife's 50th birthday back on August 20th 1962. It was maintained by the same dealer for the first 41,952 miles until the dealer went out of business. That dealer did remove the tri-power set up under factory warranty. The original owner kept the set up in her garage and sold the car and the home and left the tri-power set up in the garage!! Just left it!! The next owner was able to track down the original tri-power set up from the new owners of the original home the housed this car and reassembled the motor back to its original state.

This car has less than 45,000 original miles since new, a rebuilt motor completed on 4/25/12 with only 42,987 miles shown on the odometer. The tranny was rebuilt on 5/11/12 at 43,111 miles. Also done was the reupholstering of the front seats, new carpet, new floor mats, new door mirrors, refurbished trunk compartment, new paint, wheels repainted, polished exterior trim, and much more. The rear seats are original and are in very nice condition. Rear package tray is also very nice.

The car is in driver quality only. This car with its rarity should receive an extensive restoration and will only go up in value. There are things that need to be address like all the chrome in the interior show wear as does the dash pad. The exterior paint is not top notch by any means but it shows very well at 5-10 feet. There are very minor rust spots between the rear glass and the trunk lid that are under the paint. The headliner seems nice but needs a good clean. The speedo, RPM tach, the radio, and the fuel gauge work well. It starts right up and with a 30 second warm up your ready to go! Runs and drives fantastic! All four power windows go up and down and the power driver seat also works well. The swing away steering column also works like it should. Another issue is that the door panels, rear seat, and the rear package tray need to be dyed to match the new front seats. Since they are original I'm sure 50 plus years have slightly changed the shade of the red. The quarter window frames also need new chrome. There is new weather stripping for the rear bumper, trunk lid, and hood but the door weather stripping needs attention.

I feel I have described this vehicle to the best of my ability and that I encourage an inspection by anyone who is interested in driving a one off 1962 Thunderbird. Please inspect it since I am no expert on classic vehicles but I do love them dearly. I want the new owner to know perfectly what the condition is and that the only way is for him to inspect it prior to bidding. Please know this car is for sale locally and that a chance is present for this car to be sold prior to this auction ending. Happy bidding!!!

Editors’ Picks October 2022 | Electric trucks and some excellent SUVs

Wed, Nov 2 2022

This month sees a bevy of totally new or totally redesigned cars gain Editors’ Pick status. Important EVs like the F-150 Lightning and GMC Hummer EV quickly jump into the list, and they do so with authority, as all our editors love these trucks. The Range Rover is always a superb experience, and this generation proves to be no different. Plus, the new generation of Kia Sportage continues to surprise and impress. In case you missed our previous Editors' Picks posts, hereÂ’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get EditorsÂ’ Pick status. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. The list that youÂ’ll find below consists of every car we rated in October that earned an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2022 GMC Hummer EV The Four-Wheel-Steer system lets the 2022 GMC HUMMER EV Pickup m View 17 Photos Quick take: The Hummer amazes as an electric supertruck with its wild acceleration, incredible off-road capability, luxuriousness and epic utility. It's far from a "green" eco-friendly vehicle, but that's not the point of this technological powerhouse. Score: 8.5 What it competes with: Rivian R1T, Ford F-150 Raptor R, Ram 1500 TRX Pros: Stupid quick, tons of tech, off-road capability in spades Cons: Not efficient, annoying in tight spaces, price From the editors: Road Test Editor Zac Palmer — "I don't think I've driven a more ridiculous vehicle this year, but that's sort of the point with the Hummer. There's a great argument against this sort of EV in that it doesn't live up to being an efficient and planet-friendly vehicle, but hey, that's not the point. The Hummer EV is a supertruck and wild technological masterpiece for off-roading in the same way that a mid-engine supercar is to track performance. It's not meant to be the EV everybody drives to work and back (mostly because few can afford it), but it serves as a line in the sand of what can be done with electric off-road trucks. This pickup rules, and if you can afford one, you're going to love it." Senior Editor, Green John Beltz Snyder — "This Hummer revival is a showcase of technology and capability on the part of GM, making it an absolute blast to drive and a joy to use.

Ford brings FPV Falcon production in house [w/video]

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

For the first time since 1976, Ford of Australia is bringing the assembly of its stonking Ford Performance Vehicle line back in-house to the company's Broadmeadows and Geelong facilities. That's a point of pride for FPV, which builds high-performance versions of the Australian Falcon model like the F6, GS and the heroic GT seen here.
In the video below, we hear FPV employees talking in hushed tones about the important legacy that cars like the GT have for Australian gearheads of all stripes, and how proud they are to say that hand-built machines like this GT R-Spec with its Boss 355 engine are now rolling out of their home base. For our part, we're just dying to drive this version of the Coyote V8; the engine is rocking a "Miami" supercharger from Harrop and makes some 450 horsepower.
Continue on below for the video, or you can check out some images of the new FPV at the facility, as well as a gallery of the GT R-Spec car.

Mulally wanted to kill Lincoln as late as last year, Fields vows to turn it around

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

Lincoln fans might want to give incoming Ford CEO Mark Fields a pat on the back for having a hand in saving the brand from the chopping block last year. He's among the people spearheading the rejuvenation of the division away from its stodgy image to appeal to younger customers.
According to two unnamed sources speaking to Bloomberg, CEO Alan Mulally was ready to kill Lincoln last year. Following the slow production ramp-up of the MKZ combined a with a costly ad campaign, Mulally was frustrated and openly suggested dropping the brand. However, Fields and Jim Farley, Ford's marketing boss, convinced the CEO that the brand was worth saving. They also created a plan to prevent similar problems for new models in the future.
It seems that one part of the strategy may involve waiting until new models are at dealers before starting a big ad campaign for them. Lincoln global director, Matt VanDyke, recently told Autoblog that the division is holding off on a full marketing push behind the new MKC crossover to prevent the supply problems that plagued the MKZ last year. Its big offensive begins in the fall when the CUVs are at all of the dealers and consumers are at home watching more TV. VanDyke also told Bloomberg that Fields, Farley and Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of the Americas, have more direct oversight over new product launches now.
