Up for Auction is a mostly original 1959 Thunderbird Coupe.  It is equipped with the original 352 V-8 that has been rebuilt and blueprinted using a '64 Thunderbird crankshaft and rods and bored to .050 over making the original castings a standard 390 cubic inch engine.  The cylinder heads were rebuilt using hardened valve seats and stainless steel valves.  The engine has stock bore forged 390 standard pistons.  Rods were rebuilt and shot peened.  Camshaft is a high torque smooth idle puller cam.  Timing chain and gears are double roller.  The compression ratio is 9 to 1 which is user friendly with today's pump fuel.  There are no words that could adequately describe the extent and the cost of the engine rebuild!  The transmission was totally rebuilt (not just resealed as most are).  The rear end differential has been completely rebuilt.  All axle and wheel bearings and seals have been replaced.  The car originally came with drum brakes which have been totally rebuilt including new drums, wheel cylinders, shoes, spring kits, rubber lines, steel lines, and a completely rebuilt and correctly installed late '59 power brake booster.  Every accessory on the engine has been rebuilt including power steering pump, carburetor, new water pump, exhaust manifolds planed and refinished, radiator re-cored, extensive Canadian show chrome dress-up kit, all hoses belts wires, and a completely rebuilt distributor.  The complete exhaust system is stock and in very good condition.  The mileage listed is what shows on the odometer, but I believe it has gone around once.

The interior appears to be original and in excellent condition as you can see in the photos.  There are two small tears in the drivers door panel at the door handle that are shown in the photos. The dash cover has been replaced which was very expensive to do.  While the dash was out, every component behind the dash was rebuilt or restored including new heater core, heater control valve, constant voltage regulator, gauges, clock, defroster hoses and everything else.  Everything in this car works exactly as it should including cigar lighter, radio, original clock that actually keeps good time, heater, reverse lights, dash lights, glove box lamp, interior lights, and on and on.  The headliner was replaced including the insulation last year.  The interior chrome is absolutely stunning as can be seen in all the photos.  The trunk interior is new within the past five years and insulation was added under it.

I believe most of the exterior paint on this car is mostly original.  If it was ever painted, it was many many years ago, but I doubt it.  The paint is faded in areas, but it is very presentable.  It has paint chips and maybe a few slight dents as can be expected on a 1959 car.  The front and rear bumpers and the grille are original to the car, have never been re-chromed, and are in excellent condition.  The right rear bumper does have a few scratches on top.  The pit free rear tail lamp grilles were restored using triple plated show chrome out of Canada which was very very expensive, and the tail lights were re-silvered.  The fender gun sights are NOS.  The windshield wipers are the original vacuum units and work flawlessly even under acceleration, and the wiper chrome is in very good condition. All the glass is original and in very good condition.

All the lights work on the car and it is equipped with halogen headlamps for safety reasons.   All light, dimmer, ignition, and electrical switches were replaced with new and NOS when available.  The front sway bar was replaced with a much thicker one so the vehicle handles very well.  The car is equipped with 5 BF Goodrich Silvertown 800 X 14 original reproduction tires from the Coker Tire Co.  The front suspension was completely replaced including coil springs within the last 5 years.  The rear springs and shocks were replaced with new within the last five years.  I have been told that the continental kit is an original Ford unit as the full size 800 X 14 spare tire is in there which we like as it gives us much more trunk space when we go on tour, and the continental kit cover chrome fits the contour perfectly.

The car has no visible rust and does not appear to have been repaired for any.  The underneath is original to the car and is in very nice condition.  The fuel tank, sending unit, mechanical fuel pump are new within the last 5 years.  There is a back up electric fuel pump that has been installed.

The options are, Sun-Ray wheel covers, skirts, factory installed windshield washer that works, engine chrome dress-up kit, rear deck antenna NOS, continental kit, power steering and brakes, power windows and drivers seat (all work perfectly),  the original Magic-Air heater that works perfectly, and the original radio that works perfectly.

I am sure this car will make someone a very enjoyable driver, as it is absolutely turn key and ready to go,  The engine oil and filter were just changed as well as a complete service when we took it out of storage a few weeks ago.  My reason for selling?  I'm 65 years old so it's time to thin out the herd!  I am available to answer any questions about the car through E-Bay or at 603-483-2355.  If you want to inspect the car, no problem, as long as it all happens before the close of the auction.  Please don't ask what the reserve price is, and please don't ask me to end the auction and buy the car off the E-Bay sight.  For the record, I have more than double the buy-it-now price into the car.  I am looking for someone to buy the car who will care for and enjoy the car as much as we did through the years!  You can fly in and drive this one anywhere!

I will accept US funds only.  A 500.00 non refundable deposit to Pay-Pal is required at the close of the auction.  I have a clear New Hampshire title on this car which will be released only when the payment funds have been cleared in my bank.  I will accept a bank certified check or cash, nothing else.  Shipping is the complete responsibility of the buyer.  I will assist with loading at the time of pick up.  I will deal with your shipper at pick up during daylight hours only!  Foreign bidders are welcome as long as the car is paid in US funds and shipping is handled and paid for by them.  I will not release the car or the title until funds have been received and cleared in my bank.  Bidders with negative feedback or feedback below 20 need to contact me before bidding.

The car is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early.  Good luck and happy bidding!

E-Bay will only allow me to insert 24 photos.  I have more photos of the roof sail panel moldings which are very nice, the trunk interior, more interior photos, more engine area photos. a photo of the original data plate and the door jambs,  The data plate info is the following: 63A - A - 8X - 22G - 4 - 1  And the VIN number is already posted in the auction.   From my research, this is a very late production in the '59 model year.  Yes the original data plate is where it should be and has never been removed!

On May-20-14 at 13:16:19 PDT, seller added the following information:

Someone has asked about the speckles in the continental kit photo.  I think that is a reflection of my driveway somehow as the outer continental kit pan is in perfect show quality condition!

2016 Ford Explorer configurator reveals $30,700* base price, Platinum starts at $52,600*

Wed, Nov 26 2014

The a la carte menu for the 2016 Ford Explorer is ready for your... umm... exploring. The first page of the refreshed model's configurator reveals the lineup, including the new Platinum trim, and price increases for three of the carryover models. The base Explorer doesn't change by one red cent: it can still be had for $30,700. The XLT needs $33,400 (a $400 price bump), the Limited goes for $41,300 (a not insignificant $2,900 price increase), and the Sport requires $43,300 (a $200 increase). That new Platinum model goes where no Explorer MSRP has gone before, beginning at $52,600 (*all prices are subject to an $895 destination charge). However, since Ford has put almost everything in it, you can't jack the price up too much further unless you lose your mind in the accessories catalog. You can quickly head that way lower down the order, though. The Limited's price jump appears to be due to the voice-activated navigation system, which comes standard; it was formerly part of a $2,600 option package. The Limited goes up by just $995 when specced with the new 2.3-liter EcoBoost, which raises the power over the 2.0-liter EcoBoost it replaces to 270 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, but doesn't incur any fuel economy penalty. All-wheel drive tacks on another $2,000, safety features like active park assist and lane departure warning come as part of $3,000 Equipment Group A, and you'll still have another three pages of options to get through. On the other hand, if you just want to get your family bundle into an Explorer without spending a bundle, the base model doesn't offer any packages and only has one option over $200. Let the research begin.

Ford to build Explorer in Russia to meet demand [w/video]

Fri, 12 Apr 2013

The current Ford Explorer is sold in more than 64 countries, and this three-row vehicle continues to grow in popularity worldwide. To keep up with demand, Ford began producing the Explorer at Ford Sollers Elabuga Assembly Plant in Tatarstan, Russia, a joint venture facility. This partnership will build Russian-market Explorers only, and production of export vehicles not destined for Russian buyers will continue to be built at Ford's assembly plant in Chicago.
Before this plant went online, Ford would ship Explorers to Russia (and other regions around the world) as partially assembled knock-down units where final assembly would eventually take place. While there is no indication as to how many Explorers Ford Sollers will build for Russia, Ford did add that exports of the SUV were up 65 percent last year (from 2011) accounting for more than 24,000 units.
Scroll down for a press release about the Russian Explorer as well as a video (bad music and all) showing the SUV being produced in Tatarstan.

Ford celebrating 80 years of Aussie utes as it prepares to shutter Oz manufacturing

Wed, 26 Feb 2014

Ford is ending Australian production after 90 years in 2016, and with it may go perhaps the most iconic vehicles in its auto market - the ute. Car-based pickup trucks like the Ford Ranchero and Chevrolet El Camino were always more of a curiosity than a true market force here, but in Australia, they have long proven hugely popular.
As the legend goes, Ford invented the niche after a farmer's wife had asked Ford Australia's managing director for a more utilitarian car. Her request was simple: "My husband and I can't afford a car and a truck but we need a car to go to church on Sunday and a truck to take the pigs to market on Monday. Can you help?"
Ford's design team came up with a two-passenger, enclosed, steel coupe body with glass windows and a steel-paneled, wooden-frame load area in the rear. The sides of the bed were blended into the body to make it look more unified, and to keep costs down, the front end and interior were based on the Ford Model 40 five-window coupe. Power came from a V8 with shifting chores handled by a three-speed manual. Within a year, the new vehicle was ready, and production began in 1934. Lead designer Lewis Bandt christened it the coupe-utility.
