This beautiful Bronze Thunderbird is powered by the 312 cu. in. V-8 engine and a three-speed manual transmission. Ford gave the Thunderbird a complete makeover for 1957 with a clean open grille while the rear fenders and trunk were extended to accommodate the spare tire. The high canted fenders, (Fords term for the 1957's angled tailfins) of the full size Fords, also appeared on the Thunderbird, nicely accenting the longer trunk and fenders. Overall, the 1957 Thunderbird's design was very well received and sales increased a third from 1956.

The 1957 Thunderbird has stood the test of time and is today recognized as a milestone in modern design. 1957 was the last year of production of the "Baby Birds." The most sought after 1957 was the only year Bronze paint was available.

Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line

The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.
