1956 FORD THUNDERBIRD
THE '56 T-BIRD IS ARGUABLY ONE OF THE MOST ICONIC CARS OUT THERE. THIS IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF AN UNRESTORED AND VERY ORIGINAL CLASSIC T-BIRD LOADED WITH THE CONTINENTAL PACKAGE AND 312 V8 AUTOMATIC. THE PEACOCK BLUE PAINT WITH THE WHITE HARDTOP (WITH PORTHOLES) IS AMAZING. IT ALSO HAS THE WHITE SOFT TOP THAT IS IN GREAT SHAPE.
I PURCHASED THIS CAR EARLIER THIS YEAR AS PART OF AN ESTATE SALE. ACCORDING TO THE GENTLEMAN WHO I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM HE BELIEVED THE MILES TO BE ORIGINAL BUT WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE PROOF OF THIS. CONSIDERING THE OVERALL CONDITION OF THE CAR IT IS QUITE POSSIBLE TO BE ORIGINAL MILES BUT I, LIKE HIM, CAN'T GUARANTEE OR PROVE IT.
HE HANDLED THE SALE FOR HIS FATHER WHO HAD PASSED AWAY A YEAR EARLIER. HE EXPLAINED THAT THIS WAS HIS FATHERS PRIDE AND JOY AND HAD ACTUALLY NEVER HAD THE HARD TOP OFF THE CAR. AS CAN BE SEEN IN THE PHOTOS I'VE HAD THE HARD TOP OFF AND THE SOFT TOP ON. THE SOFT TOP IS IN LIKE NEW CONDITION WITH THE EXCEPTION OF TWO SMALL (VERY REPAIRABLE) PIN HOLES WHERE THE TOP APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN PINCHED WHILE STORED. I COULDN'T GET THE DAMAGE TO EVEN SHOW UP IN PHOTOS. THE CAR WAS GARAGE KEPT WHILE HIS FATHER HAD IT AND DROVE IT TO AN OCCASIONAL LOCAL SHOW OR CRUISE NIGHT. HIS FATHER PURCHASED THE CAR FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. HE TOLD ME THAT TO HIS FATHER'S KNOWLEDGE THE CAR HAD ONLY HAD ONE REPAINT APPROXIMATELY 15 YEARS AGO. THE PAINT APPEARS TO BE HIGH QUALITY BUT IS BEGINING TO SHOW A FEW SIGNS OF AGE. I WOULD GIVE IT AN 8 OUT OF 10. AS CAN BE SEEN IN THE PHOTOS IT SHOWS VERY WELL AND LOOKS BEAUTIFUL.
THE 312 V8 WITH THE FORDOMATIC TRANSMISSION RUNS AND SHIFTS FANTASTIC. THE ONLY MECHANICAL ISSUE THAT I HAVE FOUND IS A SLIGHT OIL LEAK. NO OTHER FLUIDS APPEAR TO BE LEAKING. THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT IS VERY CLEAN AND WELL KEPT.
THE INTERIOR IS IN AMAZING CONDITION. THE CARPET APPEARS TO BE ORIGINAL AND IS IN NEAR PERFECT SHAPE WITH NO WEAR IN THE USUAL AREAS. THE DASH DOES SHOW SOME SLIGHT DISCOLORATION AROUND THE SPEEDOMETER HOUSING. IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE SUN FADING BUT RATHER MORE LIKE "DUST BURN". THE TACHOMETER AND CLOCK WORK AS THEY SHOULD. I HAVE PUT ABOUT 600 TROUBLE FREE MILES ON THE CAR SINCE I BOUGHT IT AND THE ONLY INTERIOR ISSUE I'VE NOTICED IS THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WILL SOMETIMES MAKE A SPINNING NOISE AND THE NEEDLE WILL BOUNCE OCCASIONALLY. I SPOKE WITH AN "OLD SCHOOL" MECHANIC ABOUT THIS AND HE MENTIONED IT IS PROBABLY SOMETHING VERY SIMPLE LIKE A LOOSE SPEEDOMETER CABLE AND/OR THE CABLE NEEDS TO BE LUBED. IN EITHER CASE, A SIMPLE FIX.
THE SUSPENSION IS SMOOTH AND SOLID WITHOUT ANY SQUEEKS OR RATTLES. RUNS DOWN THE ROAD SMOOTHLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND JUST AS WELL AROUND TOWN. THE WHITEWALL TIRES ARE IN LIKE NEW CONDITION AND DRIVE STRAIGHT DOWN THE ROAD WITH NO WANDERING OR PULLING. THE BRAKES WORK GREAT. THE ENGINE DOESN'T BLOW ANY SMOKE AND RUNS SMOOTH AND STRONG. ALL LIGHTS, INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR, FUNCTION AS THEY SHOULD.
I'M HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE THAT YOU MAY HAVE. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A VERY WELL PRESERVED ORIGINAL '56 T-BIRD THEN LOOK NO FURTHER, THIS IS IT. IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A 10 POINT FRAME OFF RESTORATION TRAILER QUEEN THEN THIS ISN'T IT. THIS IS A VERY SOLID, RESPECTABLE, INCREDIBLY CLEAN, WELL MAINTAINED, ORIGINAL, CLASSIC T-BIRD. ENJOY IT FOR YEARS TO COME AS IT CURRENTLY SITS OR GIVE IT A LITTLE TLC TO MAKE IT A NEAR 10.
A VERY RARE OPTION IS THE "SPEED CONTROL" (CRUISE CONTROL) INSTALLED ON THE LOWER DASH JUST IN FRONT OF THE FLOOR SHIFTER. THIS IS THE FIRST ONE I HAVE SEEN WITH THIS OPTION. VERY COOL. IT'S A SIMPLE "PULL THE KNOB" TYPE OF A SYSTEM. I'M NOT SURE IF IT WORKS, I HAVEN'T TRIED IT. IT APPEARS TO BE A FACTORY INSTALLED ITEM BUT I'M NOT AN EXPERT ON WHAT WAS AVAILABLE THROUGH THE FACTORY IN 1956.
I'VE THOUROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS CAR BUT I'M NOW ON TO OTHER "BUCKET LIST" ITEMS. I'VE PROBABLY UNDERSTATED THE CONDTION OF THIS CAR BUT I'D RATHER ERROR ON THE SIDE OF UNDERSTATING AND HAVE THE NEW OWNER PLEASANTLY SURPRISED AND VERY HAPPY WITH THEIR NEW T-BIRD.
PLEASE, SERIOUS BIDDERS ONLY. IF YOU HAVE A FEEDBACK SCORE OF LESS THAN 10 PLEASE CONTACT ME BEFORE BIDDING OR YOUR BID WILL BE CANCELED. I'M HAPPY TO HELP WITH SHIPPING ON MY END BUT THE BUYER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL SHIPPING ARRANGEMENTS. IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING, BUT I'LL SAY IT ANYWAY.....THIS IS A 56 YEAR OLD CAR AND AS SUCH IS AN "AS IS" SALE WITH NO WARRANTIES OR GUARANTEES OF ANY KIND. I'VE DONE MY BEST TO DESCRIBE THE CONDITION OF THE CAR HONESTLY AND TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE. BID WITH CONFIDENCE, THE PICTURES SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.
I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END THE AUCTION AT ANY TIME FOR ANY REASON. IF YOU'D LIKE TO MAKE A RESPECTABLE OFFER THAT WE CAN BOTH BE HAPPY WITH I'M WILLING TO ADD A "BUY IT NOW" FOR THE AGREED ON SALE AMOUNT TO END THE AUCTION.
THANKS AND GOOD LUCK!!

The evolution of automotive marketing has undergone a number of strange phases. Few, though, match the strangeness of the 1930s to 1950s, when automotive marketers turned to cookbooks as a means of promoting their vehicles. Yes, cookbooks. We can't make this stuff up, folks.
This bizarre trend led to General Motors distributing cookbooks under the guise of its then-subsidiary Frigidaire. Ford, meanwhile, offered a compilation of recipes from Ford Credit Employees (shown above). The cookbook-craze wasn't limited to domestic manufacturers, though. As The Detroit News discovered, both Rolls-Royce and Volkswagen got in on the trend, although not until the 1970s.
The News has the full story on this strange bit of marketing. Head over and take a look.

The eagerly anticipated Ford F-150 has had its 2015 pricing announced, adding only a small amount to the pickup's total cost, despite its weight-saving aluminum body. The XL and XLT entry level models only see a $395 boost over the heavier, current-generation, 2014 truck.
The XL starts at $26,615 while the XLT rings up at $31,890. The increase for Lariat is up a similarly negligible $895, to $39,880. Going up the ladder, meanwhile, the leather-intensive King Ranch sees the biggest jump of the F-150 family, with prices increasing $3,515, to $49,460. Finally, picking up the top-end Platinum trim will cost an extra $3,055, with prices starting at $52,155.
The higher prices are being blamed not only on the aluminum bodies, which trim up to 700 pounds of body fat, but on increased levels of standard equipment. While we were expecting a price hike, the fact that the 2015 F-150's volume trims - Ford spokesman Mike Levine told Reuters that the XL and XLT alone cover 70 percent of F-150 sales - have had less than a $400 increase is hugely impressive.
