1998 Ford Taurus. Deluxe Se Model. Leather Seats & Interior. 100% Reliable on 2040-cars
Fairfield, Pennsylvania, United States
1998 Ford Taurus SE 4-door sedan. Deep metalic red exterior with gray leather seats and interior. Climate control A/C: just set the digital dial to your temperature preference. Deluxe wheels. Owners/drivers are non-smokers . Very clean interior. Rarely driven on snowy or salty roads [NOTE: at the time this ad was placed, eBay had a problem with their picture-loading software: it loaded the seller's photos in an unpredictable, random sequence, and then blocked the seller from re-sequencing the photos into their correct sequence. I'll get them into logical order when the software problem is solved.] Background. We bought this Taurus for my wife over 10 years ago. Now, because of surgery and mobiity problems [we are 76 years old], it is too low and sleek for her to enter / exit easily so we have acquired a taller vehicle for her. Original owner was a salesman, and the car had about 130,000 miles on it when we bought it. He indicated that the transmission developed problems just before sale to us, and Ford installed a complete new transmission. During our 10-year ownership, the transmission has worked flawlessly. The car has 256K miles, but they were easy miles -- rarely any passengers and rarely driven over 60 MPH. Reliability. It has been 100% reliable for us. Condition. In my judgment, it's in very good condition for its age. Has a new Pennsylvania safety inspection. Tires in excellent condition. Known problems: [1] tape deck does not work [never tried to diagnose/repair it]; [2] minor oil leak at the engine-to-transmission connection that drops 1~2 drops per day; and [3] an A/C hose leaks, but genuine Ford hoses are available in $120 range from Rock Auto. About 5 years ago, I replaced many of steering components: PS pump, rack and pinion, inner and outer tie rods, etc.

Ford F-100 'Snakebit' shown off by Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed at SEMA
Tue, 05 Nov 2013Ford, along with KISS bassist Gene Simmons and his wife, Shannon Tweed, used SEMA as a backdrop to pull the covers off Snakebit, a 1956 Ford F-100 pickup truck that's been updated with Shelby Mustang-derived styling bits and a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine. All 550 horsepower are funneled through a six-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels.
Underneath the custom bodywork sits a chassis that's been stretched five inches and a bed widened and bedecked with billet machined pieces that are supposed to look like wood. The 20-inch rear and 18-inch front wheels ape those of past Shelby Mustang models. The interior is swathed in two-tone leather with a bench seat designed to look - try to act surprised - like a Shelby Mustang.
Like what you see? Bidding for the truck will take place in 2014 at an unspecified Barrett-Jackson event (we'd assume Scottsdale). Proceeds will be used to help build a children's hospital in Saskatoon, in the province of Saskatchewan, where Ms. Tweed grew up. See the high-res gallery above and the press release down below for more.
Consumer Reports explains its disdain for infotainment
Thu, 20 Mar 2014One of the perks of reviewing all manner of cars and trucks is that we're exposed to all the different infotainment systems. Whether Cadillac's CUE, Chrysler's UConnect, BMW's iDrive or MyFord Touch, we sample each and every infotainment system on the market.
Not surprisingly, some are better than others. It seems consumers have come to a similar consensus, with Consumer Reports claiming that Ford and Lincoln, Cadillac and Honda offer the worst user infotainment experiences. Not surprisingly, you won't find much argument among the Autoblog staff.
Take a look below to see just what it is about the latest batch of infotainment systems that grinds CR's gears. After that, scroll down into Comments and let us know if you agree with the mag's views.
Ford board OK with Mulally stepping down earlier
Fri, 06 Sep 2013Ford's board is open to CEO Alan Mulally stepping down before his planned departure in 2014, inside sources are telling Reuters. Ford's plan of succession, aside from who would be his actual successor, has been something approaching common knowledge - the 68-year-old former Boeing exec had plans to stay through 2014. This was recently confirmed by Mulally himself on Bloomberg Television and in Automotive News.
Motivation for the about-face comes from what Reuters calls a "growing confidence" in the current crop of Ford execs, led by Mark Fields. Fields, Ford's current chief operating officer, has been tipped as Mulally's ultimate successor, although he's far from the only person with eyes on Ford's top job. Normally, Ford's board saying they're open to an executive, that's done very well for the company, stepping down early would be nearly unremarkable. It's the timing of this announcement, though, that makes this a big piece of news.
Recently, Mulally has been the subject of rumors that he's interested in taking the CEO position at tech giant Microsoft. The Redmond, Washington-based company's CEO, Steve Ballmer, told the media in August that he'd be retiring in a year's time. The fires were stoked when tech website AllThingsD speculated that Mulally would take the top spot, despite denials from the man himself. Could Ford's current boss become the new top dog at Microsoft? Will Mark Fields replace him? Could recently departed Renault exec Carlos Tavares land at Ford in some capacity? Let us know what you think below in Comments.
