1997 Ford Taurus, Needs Repaired on 2040-cars
Sharon, Pennsylvania, United States
Vehicle sold as is ...the body is in overall good condition, with some rust underneath from sitting but nothing catastrophic.
Rocker panels were recently replaced due to rusted mounts. No collision history that I'm aware of. I purchased it from the original owner in 2007. The mileage was 83,060 at the time, so I only put 14,000 miles on it in 5 years. I always took good care of the car mechanically and oil was changed regularly. Current mileage is 97,252 miles. The interior in good condition. There is a small cigarette burn in the driver's seat. The car was smoked in, but it's not horrible and it would look great with a good detailing. The car has sat for 2 years. A water pump leaked and the engine overheated, cracking the head and antifreeze got into the bottom end. My intention was to rebuild or replace the motor, but never had the time or the money. Unlike many Tauruses, this one never had transmission problems. I serviced the transmission regularly. From sitting the tires and battery are shot, so it needs tires and a battery as well. This is a good car for someone mechanically-minded who might happen to have a spare Taurus 3.0L DOHC engine laying around and the time and/or resources to swap or rebuild an engine. There aren't too many of these floating around with less than 100k mileage. They were good cars, and ran forever ...unless you overheated them. I'm listing it for $399 firm ...only because there are several local salvage yards that will pay me exactly $400 for it, and they'll pick it up. I'd rather see it back on the road again for somebody though. |

Ford paying $750 million just to close plant in Belgium
Thu, 21 Mar 2013According to a report from Reuters, Ford is shelling out $750 million in a severance deal that will see the automaker close its facility in Genk, Belgium. The automaker reached this deal with the 4,000 hourly workers employed at the plant last week, which means the company will pay out an average of $187,500 per worker.
Ford is still negotiating with the 300 salaried workers at the factory, which currently produces the Mondeo sedan. All told, Ford expects to lose around $2 billion in Europe thanks in no small part to the region's ongoing economic downturn, and two more plants are scheduled to be shut down in Europe this year. The company will log its $750 million payout under "special items" for this quarter.
As you may recall, Ford took a similar path in the US back in 2009 when the domestic market took a spill. Back then, the company shelled out around $50,000 per employee with at least one year of experience, plus either $25,000 toward a new car or an extra cash payment of $20,000. It would seem the cost of closing plants in Belgium is a much harder pill to swallow than in the States...
Ken Block and friends race light in silly-beautiful Castrol commercial
Wed, 28 May 2014How does one make fast, loud, drifting cars better? Well, you can add more fast, loud, drifting cars or you can add lasers. Either or, really. In this case, Castrol did the right thing and added both, creating a highly stylized commercial for its Edge Titanium motor oil starring South African racer Adrian Zaugg, BMW factory driver Augusto Farfus, Audi DTM and Le Mans staple Mike Rockenfeller and some bloke named Ken Block.
Their cars? No surprise, but Block is in his Ford Fiesta GRC, while Zaugg samples a Lamborghini Aventador and Farfus and Rockenfeller drive along party lines, with a BMW M4 and an Audi R8, respectively. And those cars look good, too, thanks to the creative light and laser work on display.
Take a look below for the video from Castrol.
Ford C-Max Solar Energi takes a recharging station wherever it goes
Wed, 08 Jan 2014Companies ranging in size from small startups to major automakers have been experimenting with solar-powered charging stations for EVs and plug-in hybrids. And, of course, people have been powering vehicles with onboard solar panels for quite some time, too. Still, Ford's new C-Max Solar Energi Concept shows the promise of a truly practical implementation of solar on a production vehicle, and it may not be as far off in the future as we had thought.
As we reported a few days ago, the Solar concept makes use of a "concentrator lens" that focuses sunlight onto the Ford's roof-mounted solar panels. The special lens follows the rays of the sun to maximize the amount of charge being fed to the batteries of the car, taking about a day to fully charge the 21-mile, all-electric range of the C-Max Energi. Ford data suggests that combination might be enough to power 75 percent of all trips made by a statistically average driver. In turn, using the sun to power a vehicle could reduce yearly C02 emissions by up to four metric tons when compared with the driver of an average gasoline-powered sedan.
We've got live images of the C-Max Solar Energi Concept, jauntily tilted on its display to best present it's signature solar panels, straight from the CES floor.
