Nearly brand new battery and starter (less than 3k miles)

Operating

All features are fully functional (power locks, windows, radio, head lights, etc.).
Air Conditioning and Heating work excellent.
The parking/emergency brake light is illuminated on the instrument panel (this light came on about 3 months ago). I had this inspected by Goodyear when I had the oil changed and they said it’s a $15 switch that has to be replaced. They didn’t have the switch on hand or I would have had it fixed.

History

The city of Champaign is the original owner.  The car was used by traffic meter staff for the 7 years it was owned by the city of Champaign. I have all of the original service records for the time the car was owned by the city of Champaign. The city performed all scheduled preventative maintenance in line with the factory recommendations. Thus the car runs like new.

I purchased the car from the City of Champaign in April of 2010 with 82,000 miles. The car currently has 92,450 miles. Since I live in the city, I have only used the car for trips to the grocery store, airport, etc. Thus I have only put 10,000 miles on the car in 3.5 years. Since I have owned the car I have had the oil changed every 3-4 months and minor maintenance, including:

  •          Replacing belt tensioner and belt in August of 2010 with 82,500 miles
  •          Having air conditioning serviced in July of 2012 with 88,500 miles
  •          Purchasing new front tires in August of 2012 with 89,000 miles (40,000 mile limited warranty)
  •          Replacing battery in September 2012 with 89,500 miles
  •          Replacing starter in October of 2012 with 90,000 miles

The car was in a minor front end collision in August of 2011 (5-10 mph). The air bags did not deploy. The hood buckled as a result of the accident and was therefore replaced in August of 2011. You will notice from the pictures that the hood is a slightly different color than the rest of the body as the hood was replaced with a factory hood from a lighter blue Taurus. This is a minor cosmetic issue and can be fixed by having the hood painted or replaced.

Also, girlfriend hit a pole while parking in 2011. You can see the scratch on passenger side rear door/quarter panel.  Also minor (1 inch) dent (was there when I purchased) near the passenger side door handle.

Price

KBB.com notes the following:

Excellent:            $3,557

Very Good:          $3,332
Good:                   $3,207

Fair:                     $2,807

Given the cosmetic damages on the exterior, the car falls into the Good category (mechanically it would fall under Excellent).

Since I no longer have garage parking at my building and I am moving overseas at the beginning of the year, I need to sell the car as soon as possible. As such, I am listing the car for $2,500 OBO. I have a free and clear title in hand ready to go.

Serious inquiries only.

2013 Shelby 1000 unleashes its 1,200 horsepower ahead of NY show reveal

Fri, 22 Mar 2013

True story: Last fall, I had the opportunity to spend a week with Ford's new 2013 Shelby GT500 - the Blue Oval's factory Mustang with 662 horsepower and 631 pound-feet of torque. It's an amazing beast, to be sure. I'm not sure if it was Michigan's damp streets strewn with potholes and wet leaves, but at no point did I ever say to myself, "You know, Ford is on to a really good thing here, but what it really needs is about twice the power." And yet, for people in warmer climes with infrastructure in better nick - or for those whose muscle cars live their lives out on the track, there's apparently sufficient demand to warrant just such a beast.
Quick studies will recall that Shelby American launched its 1000 last year to commemorate its 50th anniversary, but it is returning to the New York Auto Show with a fresh version based on the 2013 GT500 I drove. The 2013 Shelby 1000 whips up 1,200 horsepower on pump gas thanks to beefed-up forced induction, engine internals and cooling. Wisely, it also incorporates an adjustable suspension and big brake package to make sure those ponies have the best chance being safely deployed to the ground.
What price the world's most powerful "production" muscle car? $154,995 for starters - donor GT500 not included. What, no convertible variant?

Your official Ford Transit specs are here, $29,565* to start

Wed, 04 Jun 2014

Ford has released the full list of pricing and specs on its new Transit, the replacement for the long-lived E-Series cargo van. Prices are set to start at $29,565 and can increase rapidly from there, depending on length, engine and wheelbase, among other options.
Let's talk first about those new engines. The base is the familiar 3.7-liter, naturally aspirated V6. It boasts 275 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque and can return up to 14 miles per gallon in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. This engine can also be adapted to run on LPG or compressed natural gas. Of course, there are better alternatives, for a price, the first of which is Ford's well-received, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. It packs 310 hp and a best-in-class 400 lb-ft of torque (available at just 2,500 rpm) while matching the naturally aspirated engine in both city and highway fuel economy.
Then, there's the diesel. With a 3.2-liter, five-cylinder diesel mill at its disposal, the Transit generates 350 lb-ft between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm, along with 185 hp. This engine hasn't been rated by the EPA, although we'd be really, really surprised if it didn't handily best either of the gas-powered engines in fuel efficiency. A six-speed automatic is standard, regardless of engine.

Detroit 3 to implement delayed unified towing standards for 2015

Tue, Feb 11 2014

Car buyers have a responsibility to be well-informed consumers. That's not always a very simple task, but some guidelines are self-evident. If you live in a very snowy climate, you generally know a Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro might not be as viable a vehicle choice as an all-wheel drive Explorer or Traverse, for example. If you want a fuel-efficient car, it's generally a good idea to know the difference between a diesel and a hybrid. But what if it's kind of tough to be an informed consumer? What if the information you need is more difficult to come by, or worse, based on different standards for each vehicle? Well, in that case, you might be a truck shopper. For years, customers of light-duty pickups have had to suffer through different ratings of towing capacities for each brand. For 2015 model year trucks, though, that will no longer be a problem. According to Automotive News, General Motors, Ford and Chrysler Group have announced that starting with next year's models, a common standard will be used to measure towing capacity. The Detroit Three will join Toyota, which adopted the Society of Automotive Engineers' so-called SAE J2807 standards way back in 2011. The standard was originally supposed to be in place for MY2013, but concerns that it would lower the overall stated capacity for trucks led Detroit automakers to pass. Ford originally passed, claiming it'd wait until its new F-150 was launched to adopt the new standards, leading GM and Ram to follow suit. Nissan, meanwhile, has said it will adopt the new standards as its vehicles are updated, meaning the company's next-generation Titan should adhere to the same tow ratings as its competitors. While the adoption of SAE J2807 will be helpful for light-duty customers, those interested in bigger trucks will still be left with differing standards. There is no sign of the new tow standards being adopted for the heavy-duty market.
