For Sale is my BEAUTIFUL 1994 Ford Ranger --1 owner!!
Truck is freshly detailed with new wiper blades, fresh oil change, new power steering hoses and brake fluid recently flushed!
This truck has been babied, meticulously cared for,  and spent most of her life in the garage. I always drove  it at least once a week though, to keep all the fluids circulated  I really hate to part with it,  but I've recently bought a new Dodge Ram.  I bought this truck new in 1994 at Jack Demmer Ford in Wayne, MI and it has been loads of fun to drive!  Does great in the snow with the 4-wheel drive, but still gets decent gas mileage!  I have most of the receipts for repairs over the life of the vehicle.  I still have the original window sticker as well as all the manuals and even a Haynes Manual for the
do-it-yourselfer.
The interior is pretty much immaculate except for a stain on the carpeting in the back. The captains' seats in the front are in perfect condition as they were always covered.   The extended portion of the cab has 2 small kids' seats that fold down and have their own seat belts.
The Astro Cap is fiberglas and  has some great features like dual key-locking access handles on the door and sliding glass windows with screens.  You can inflate an air mattress and sleep in the back in a sleeping bag  with the windows open if you like to camp.
The bed has a Ziebart sprayed-in bedliner covered by a rubber mat so it is still like new!!
I selected an options package that would cause little frustration as the vehicle aged, such as manual-locking front hubs, crank windows, and manual door locks.  All options on the truck appear to still be working.  The truck is equipped with factory premium sound and a 12-cd changer.  The cruise control usually works though it may need some attention.  I have not hooked up a trailer in awhile so I dont know if the trailer wiring is working, but it does come with a trailer hitch included.  I would not recommend pulling anything heavier than a small boat or cargo trailer with this vehicle.  This truck is great for 4-wheeling, everyday driving, and hauling larger items in the 6-foot bed.
The A/C worked fine up until a couple of years ago and could probably use a recharge. I seldom had to use it because the cab ventilates so well with the sliding back window.   The body does have some surface rust that could use some attention, and the underside is rusted, The paint on the roof of the cap has faded and peeled, but for a vehicle almost 20 years old this truck is in excellent condition!
No warranty expressed, written or implied and vehicle is being sold "as is."

Ford director says company has big efficiency plans, but no dedicated EV

Wed, Mar 12 2014

The annual autofest known as the North American International Auto Show previews a plethora of exciting new products that we'll see and drive later in the year, from tiny urban commuters to family sedans and crossovers to hard-working big pickups and SUVs. It's also a once-a-year cornucopia of auto executives and leaders from around the world. "There will be some really fun stuff that you'll hear about in the future" - Ford's Kevin Layden So, in-between dozens of cool new-product unveilings on rotating stages during the two press days preceding the public show, we auto scribes grab what planned and impromptu interviews we can. Sessions with top industry leaders can be hard to get, but I was able to score a seat in a group session with then-General Motors North America president (now executive VP of global product development) Mark Reuss, and I also managed brief one-on-ones with a trio of vehicle electrification leaders, one each from Ford, BMW and GM, and what they said then remains relevant now. First up is Kevin Layden, Ford's Director of Electrified Powertrain Engineering. ABG: Where will Ford go beyond its current Focus EV and hybrids, and will there be a Ford EV and/or hybrid on its own energy-optimized platform one day. KL: We don't want to do a dedicated electric vehicle with all the development costs borne by a niche product. At the Michigan Assembly plant right now we're building the Focus electric, PHEV and EcoBoost on the same assembly line. Also the C-Max, with both a hybrid and an Energi plug-in, and we use that same power pack in the Fusion Hybrid and Energi. We want to be, "The power of choice" [a Ford marketing slogan], so having that choice for customers is very important. And if I want to sell the Fusion, Focus and C-Max globally, we can use these power packs wherever it makes sense. So as we go forward, you'll see us proliferating the power packs we have today. Then the question is, what do we do next? There will be some really fun stuff that you'll hear about in the future. ABG: Is the efficiency difference between a dedicated ultra-efficient vehicle platform and a shared multi-use platform getting smaller as all platforms get more efficient? KL: Exactly. Were going through aero studies now on wheels and tires and hood sealers on base vehicles. We have full aerodynamic wind tunnel studies going on with the base Focus and C-Max, so all of that [aerodynamic improvement] will be there for EVs.

Automotive Grade Linux will be the backbone of your connected car

Fri, Jan 6 2017

Creating a backend for a secure, reliable, and expandable infotainment system is costly and time consuming. The Linux Foundation, a non-profit organization, has set out to promote and advance the Linux operating system in commercial products. Automotive Grade Linux, or AGL, is a group within the Foundation that seeks to apply a Linux backend to a number of automotive applications in a variety of vehicles from various suppliers and manufacturers. AGL's goal is to create a common, unifying framework that allows developers and manufacturers to easily implement applications across platforms. Currently, the focus is on infotainment systems, but AGL has plans for instrument clusters, heads-up displays, and eventually active safety software. At CES, a display from Panasonic showed a completely digital and customizable dashboard that allows information and apps to be moved from the gauge cluster to the infotainment screen and back, all through the use of gesture and touch controls. Although the organization has been around for five years, it's really only been in the past three that the group has been working hand in hand with automakers and suppliers. The first two OEMs to participate, Toyota and Jaguar Land Rover, have since been joined by Mazda, Suzuki, Ford, and, as of this week, Daimler. The latter is important as until now most of AGL's partner's have been based in Japan or the US. Other partners include suppliers Denso, Renesas, Continental, Qualcomm, and Intel. AGL want's to supply roughly 80 percent of the backend, allowing partners to then finish and refine the Linux system for each individual application. Think of how the Android operating system is refined and customized for individual smartphones from Samsung, LG, and Motorola. While the final product looks different, developers can have an application that will work across all AGL systems. Because it is open source, anyone can use and develop for AGL. You can even go onto the group's website and download a copy right now. There is also a software development kit available that helps facilitate app creation on the platform. Vehicle development cycles take roughly five years, so there currently are no cars that run an AGL backbone available for consumers. AGL Executive Director Dan Cauchy says products should be hitting the market later this year, with even more coming in 2018. Right now, the industry is relatively fragmented when it comes to infotainment and related systems.
