I need to sell my 5.0L 302 lifted 9" with 38" super swampers 1987 Ford Ranger regular cab 4x4.  I'll try and explain everything but please ask questions if needed. The motor was swapped from an old 70's thunderbird, the motor was rebuild about 4 years ago and has about 10,000 miles on it.

The good things about it:

The ignition was swapped out from the old points to an early 80's duraspark ignition for better reliability.
The motor has a dual sump oil pan that had a crack in it, but was jb welded and does not leak anymore.
The oil filter has been relocated with a kit and uses a double braded steel line for the relocation kit. Oil was just changed about 300 miles ago with mobil 1 full synthetic.
A new mild summit racing cam, lifters, rods and rocker arms were installed back in July 2012 and properly broken in.
a  new OEM water pump was installed in March.
Has an edelbrock RPM Performer series intake manifold
Holley 4bbl 600cfm with vacuum secondaries and a 50cc accelerator pump

New electric fuel pump as of July 2012
New optima redtop battery installed on August 2012
The plugs, wires, cap and rotor were replaced back in July 2012.
New radiator installed on July of 2012 with a 165 degree thermostat. , although a bigger radiator will be needed, truck doesn't overheat but if you are on the interstate going 70MPH and go up a  long hill it does go up to about 210, but normally runs about 170 around town and 190 on the interstate.
Both v-belts were replaced in July 2012
New electric flex a lite 2500cfm  fan installed July 2012
New HID Halogen headlights installed in July 2012.
Has a very solid grill guard/winch bracket with KC headlights(lights are not wired though)
Has a C4 (3 speed) transmission from a early 70's truck.  Just rebuilt back in November 2012.  Has about 1,000 Miles on it.  Also installed a shift kit.  ( the torque converter wasn't replaced when the trans was rebuilt, but the torque converter recently started going out I will be replacing with a brand new  converter next weekend Had to order it.)
Transfer case is the original Borg Warner 1350 has 4-wheel High gears and 4-wheel Low gears)  flushed and changed fluid July 2012
Original drive shaft professionally fabricated to fit, Just replaced both u-joints last month.
Shorty headers into dual 2.5" exhaust. new high flow catalitic converters,  into dual Thrush glass pack stacks with 4" turnouts.  Exhaust was installed July of 2012 all welded exhaust joints but two spots on each line.  No leaks though.  Sounds great when you open it up.
SunPro tach on the steering column.  Oil pressure, water temp, trans temp and volt gauge all aftermarket mounted on dash.  Picture was taken while truck was running to show good oil pressure and running temp.
Aftermarket sunroof was installed several years ago, but has no leaks and looks great!  Prop up or easily removable!
New CD player installed July 2012, has USB connection and AUX connection on front, and faceplate is detacable.
New 4" speakers installed in dash and dual 8" sub/tweaters box behind seat, sounds decent for what it is.
New 2" heavy duty billet aluminum wheel spacers/adapters.  adapted the lug pattern from 5x4.5 to 5x5.5 also spaced it out an additional 2" to allow for wider tires.  These were installed July 2012.  These were $200 for the four of them!
I did have 38.5" super swampers all around on the truck but two of them went bad and the only other two I could find of similar size were 37's so the back two are 38.5" by 16" wide TSL super swampers with a 15" rim with more than 50% tread life with no plugs or punctures, but do have some rock rash and have balancing  beads in them because they couldn't be properly balanced.
The front two are 37" by 14"wide IROK Super swampers with a 15" rim with more than 50% tread life and again no plugs or punctures but a little bit of rock rash.
4wheel drive has manual lock out hubs.

Now for the bad, I've already mentioned some of the bad, but I'll restate them just to be clear.

The front end is the original dana 28, it is functional but has does grind with the hubs locked in, so it will need rebuilt, I was just going to swap in a Dana 38, it's a direct swap and the knuckles can be upgraded.  The front end still works, I've used it several times to get me out of a few jams, but like I said it does make a slight grinding noise with moving.

The rear main seal has a very small leak, but it's barely a leak, just a few drops a week.

The trans cooler is a little small and beat up and would be a good  idea to be replaced sometime in the future, but the trans doesn't overheat, it also has new stainless steel bradied lines going to it.

The valve cover gaskets were recently replaced back in january but are leaking again. not a huge deal but just saying.

Like I said the trans was recently rebuilt but the torque converter was not replaced, so it is causing an issue with the trans down shifting into first when you come to a stop light, but I have a new one on order and will be replaced next weekend.

Also the trans leaks, mainly from the pan, but a little bit from the input shaft gasket, I will be addressing this issue when the torque converter is replaced.

The door key doesn't unlock the passanger side door.  The door opens just fine front in and out of the truck and locks just fine, but the key won't unlock it, you have to unlock it from the inside.

The driver side window doesn't quite roll up all the way, there is about a half of an inch open when rolled all the way up.  I haven't went in and tried to fix the issue, it never really caused an issue, so I didn't bother with it.

The truck originally came from pennsylvania and has a lot of rust, not so much that is visible on the outside, but the driverside floor board  is completely rusted through and there is a medium size hole in the floor, but the carpet does hide it.  also some rust on the rear quarter panels.

The clearcoat is pealing off in some spots.

The tailgate opens and closes and latches but the brackets that allow the tailgate to swivel at the bottom is broken, so if you open the tailgate you have to take it off.  It is sturdy when shut and won't fly open when shut, but if you open it you have to pull it off and put it off to the side.

The seats are good and only the passenger seat has a small hole in the fabric.

The passanger side of the dash board has some cracks.

I've tried to mention everything I can think of about this truck.  It's a very reliable truck and I've driven it to 29 palms and back a few times, which is 2.5 hours away and didn't have a single issue with it.  The truck is registered in Kansas and I do have the title in hand and ready to sign it over.  This truck is one heck of a looker, I always get compliments on it, especially with the red stacks on it.  Even if you scrap the truck the parts alone are well worth close to twice as much as I'm asking. I just don't want to part it out.  Don't have the time.

I'm asking that a $500 deposit be made within 48 hours of end of auction.  The remainder can be paid when the truck is picked up, I ask that the truck be paid for and picked up withing ten days of auction end.  If other arrangements are needed please contact me before close of auction. thank you.  Nick

Mysterious small Ford spied in Germany

Sat, 29 Jun 2013

Our spy photographers have just popped off a few shots of something curious. This little runabout was spotted in Germany out testing with a current-generation Ford Fiesta. We're fairly confident the machine is a Ford, but exactly which Ford model is up for debate. The hatchback could be the next-generation Ka, but we've also heard that the Blue Oval supermini might not get a replacement. Our shooter says the five-door is a bit smaller than the current Fiesta, though there is a chance that this rig is just an engineering mule for drivetrain development. Then again, it could be a model built specifically for the South African market or China, or not a Ford at all.
Whatever it is and wherever it's headed, you can check out in the gallery for a closer look before heading into Comments to weigh in with your best guess.

Ford profits soar as problems mount

Mon, 19 Aug 2013

Ford is doing well. It can't make enough examples of its new Fusion, it can barely make enough of the aging F-150, it's getting good brand rankings, people like its turnaround story, it's selling oodles of product and its quarterly profit numbers end in the word "billion." As other high-flying examples have demonstrated over the past few years, though, big numbers can come with problems that aren't exactly small.
Automotive News has published a good "nutshell" report of Ford's progress and problems. The Dearborn automaker's optimistic "general label rule" determination of gas mileage for the C-Max Hybrid has led to lawsuits, hybrid software updates, a downward revision of C-Max fuel economy and millions in rebates. AN notes the C-Max was the "worst-scoring model in this year's J.D. Power Initial Quality Study," but Ford will probably be happy that it managed not to be mentioned further in the study's results after last year's mediocre showing. Its MyTouch and SYNC systems, the bugbears sabotaging Ford's J.D. Power results, have also led to lawsuits, software updates, more software updates and a center console rethink. On top of that, the 1.6-liter EcoBoost in the 2013 Ford Escape that Ford called a "hero" was soon catching fire for three different reasons. And let's not even get into the troubled launch of the Lincoln MKZ.
The Automotive News piece notes that industry observers have been surprised at Ford's stumbles because everything has been looking so good. Nevertheless, there is still the issue of those billions in profits - the company is doing plenty of things, plural, right. Ford says it is tackling its problems, hiring engineers and instituting new quality control processes as part of its effort to find solutions. The test will be to see if in a year from now we begin the discussion of these issues with "Remember when Ford...", or "Problems continue at The Blue Oval."

Winnebago re-introduces classic Brave RV [w/video]

Fri, Jun 6 2014

Winnebago is saying 'Let's do the time warp again,' using its new Brave RV to do it – have a look at the first Winnebago RV from 1966 and you'll know exactly where this one comes from. The modern version of this swinging sixties motorhome is accurate from its size, either 26- or 27-foot version, to its trademark eyebrow above the front windshield. The foldaway bunk above the front seats that necessitated the eyebrow design has been updated, and is now a power bed that descends from the ceiling. It is among a set of standard features that also includes a 19-foot motorized awning, leveling jacks at all four corners, heated mirrors, LED ceiling lights, two available floorplans and detailing like a workstation for the front passenger, a sliding dash cluster and and a waterfall countertop in the kitchen with built-in extensions. The Brave sits on a Ford F53 chassis complete with its Triton V10 engine and five-speed automatic transmission. No word yet on any potential diesel alternatives. Naturally, that 1966 price of $4,000 will also come in for an update, but the company hasn't yet revealed it. The good folks from Winnebago will be happy to take you on a thorough personal tour of the Brave in the video below. This content is hosted by a third party.
