It is time to sell my Ranchero. I bought a car, and I don't need 2 vehicles. It is a great truck, it has the cool 72 torino nose. I have owned it for 20 years. I have fixed a bunch of little stuff on it, which makes it good deal for somebody who likes big block Ranchero's. First I installed a 750 cold cranking amp battery. Standard tuneup , pertronic electric ignition, runs great. It's a Ford and it does not leak oil. Heavy duty C6 transmission. New parts, water pump, starter, alternator, heater core, heater switch and heater motor. Fixing the heater was a lot of fun. Brakes are good, replaced a defective rotor, a leaking axle seal, replaced the front part of the dual exhaust, and topped off the rear end. New bushings on the front struts and new shocks. Frame mounted trailer hitch. I cleaned up the interior. New seat upholstery, carpet, good condition padded dash, cleaned, detailed and reinstalled all the interior parts. A forty hour job!!! New windshield. I have bought a 200 dollar set of chrome powdered hood hinges. The hood does not sag. As you can see, I have done a ton of work to my Ranchero. I have spent over 2000 dollars doing preventive maintenance. It is a solid daily driver, looks fine with the satin blue finish, or you can take it to to the next level.

Ford recalling select Taurus, Explorer and Lincoln MKS models over fuel tanks
Sun, 31 Mar 2013Ford is recalling certain 2012 Taurus, 2013 Explorer and 2012 Lincoln MKS models over fuel tank concerns. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, vehicles built between July 19, 2011 and March 15, 2012 may have been built with fuel tanks that have a "marginally sealed seam" on the side. Those seams may not provide the strength necessary to protect the tank from rupture during a collision. They may also leak. The recall covers a total of 3,037 vehicles. NHTSA says that leaked fuel, in the presence of an ignition source, could easily cause a fire.
Dealers will inspect the tanks and replace them as need be free of charge. Owners can expect to be notified once the campaign begins on or around April 22, 2013. You can read the full NHTSA recall notice below for more information.
Ford Fiesta ST in startling track battle against Toyota GT86
Wed, 26 Jun 2013On the surface, there's very little that the Ford Fiesta ST and Toyota GT86 (or the Scion FR-S that is sold in the US, or the largely similar Subaru BRZ) share in common. One is a hatchback with power coming from a turbocharged engine routed to the front wheels. The other is a coupe with power coming from a naturally aspirated four-cylinder boxer engine routed to the rear wheels.
Thing is, both of them are reasonably priced performance cars aimed at a similar segment of the automotive marketplace, so a comparison isn't out of the question. It is with all of this in mind that we direct you to the video below, in which the blokes from Evo pit the two manic little machines against one another on a race track. The result? Well, it can be summed up this way: Fast versus fun.
See how the track battle goes down in the video below.
Ford partnering with MIT, Stanford on autonomous vehicle research
Fri, 24 Jan 2014Ask any car engineer what's the biggest variable in achieving fuel economy targets, and he'll tell you "the driver." If one human can't understand human driving behavior enough to be certain about an innocuous number like miles per gallon, how is an autonomous car supposed to figure out what hundreds of other drivers are going to do in the course of a day? Ford has enlisted the help of Stanford and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to find out.
Starting with the automated Fusion Hybrid introduced in December, MIT will be developing algorithms that driverless cars can use to "predict actions of other vehicles and pedestrians" and objects within the three-dimensional map provided by its four LIDAR sensors.
The Stanford team will research how to extend the 'vision' of that LIDAR array beyond obstructions while driving, analogous to the way a driver uses the entire width of a lane to see what's ahead of a larger vehicle in front. Ford says it wants to "provide the vehicle with common sense" as part of its Blueprint for Mobility, preparing for an autonomous world from 2025 and beyond.
