This is a nice 1963 Ranchero. It is a daily driver and in excellent condition. The bed looks to be rust free and is coated. I will include the toolbox that is in the bed and of course, the spare. The tires are new and on 13" wheels. It was originally a 3 speed on the column and was converted to floor shift. It is a 170 6 cylinder car which is by no means, a hot rod, but gets where it is supposed to go and gets great gas mileage. I don't see any rust areas under the car. The odometer reads 27+K but I have no idea if that is accurate or not. The engine compartment is clean, it was originally an air conditioned car, but the compressor is gone. Many of the other parts are there and could be added, but I can't imagine running air with this motor. Windows are good, and work like they should. Turn signals and lights work properly. Brakes are good. Radio does not work, but is there. Whomever painted the dash, did not get completely under it...it looks great until you lay on the floor and look up, but that's easy to fix. Car starts right up and drives wherever you want it to go. I know that the car was built in San Jose, California and spent most of it's life in California, somehow made it's way to Kansas City where I picked it up. The tailgate works properly and is in excellent condition. There are a few spare parts in the toolbox. Now...for the bad (but it's not that bad). Someone replaced the dome light lens with a funny looking one...I will try to find the proper one. The transmission will not downshift from 3rd to 2nd or 2nd to first for some reason. This just popped up and I have an appointment next Weds. to see what the deal is. I suspect it may be the synchronizer. It does not affect the way the car shifts or drives, just gets annoying when you try to downshift. The red striping is pin striping, not paint, but still looks great. Radio does not work. That's about it. Please email me with questions if you have any. I have to sell this because I have too many cars. 10 cars, 2 drivers...is too many. I have looked this car up on NADA and KBB and Hagerty valuation tools and my reserve is WAY under what they say that the car is worth. In fact, I tried to insure it for 6K with Hagerty and they said they would not insure it for less that 11K because they would be doing me a dis-service. I believe this to be an unusual hard to find car in this condition. It is also fun to drive and has won a trophy in the only car show I put it in.
I will not ship the car. Buyer is responsible for pickup, or when paid in full to have some shipper pick it up for them. There are many shippers out there that will ship for a dollar a mile or less.  I would like to have $500 down payment when the auction closes and the balance paid upon inspection of the car, or before it is picked up. PayPal, or cash is fine.  If you are successful bidder and come to inspect it in person and don't want it, I will refund your down payment, less the eBay fees that I have to pay.

Time to catch up with Jay Leno's Garage, including his Lamborghini Espada restoration

Tue, Dec 23 2014

If you're already jealous of the time, effort and money that Jay Leno can devote to his massive car collection, prepare to get a little greener with envy with this latest video from Jay Leno's Garage. Instead of the usual format of discussing a model for about ten minutes and then taking it out for a test drive, this week Leno gives viewers on a tour of over a dozen projects concurrently happening in his stable. The breadth of the vehicles shown and the things being done to them run the entire span of the automotive hobby. At the same time, Jay's shop is working on just a simple restoration of his 1969 Lamborghini Espada (pictured), and at the other side of the building, the team is rebuilding a wood-bodied 1914 Detroit Electric from scratch. He eventually plans to slot a more modern electric drivetrain into it. If bikes are more your interest, there's a freshly completed Brough Superior just waiting for a ride, and if American models are your thing, a Ford Bronco is getting a Coyote V8 installed into it. You have some very specific tastes if you can't watch this clip and start wishing at least one of these vehicles could be in your own garage. Other than the personal projects his mechanics are working on in the shop, Jay gets to have them all, plus plenty more.

Automakers donating money, vehicles and supplies to Oklahoma tornado relief effort

Fri, 24 May 2013

Judging by the destruction the Oklahoma City area experienced earlier this week, residents are going to need a lot of help in coming months. Fortunately, a number of automakers - including General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Volkswagen, Honda and Toyota - have stepped up to donate money, supplies and vehicles to aid in the recovery and rebuilding processes.
Here's a quick rundown of which automakers have pitched in and what each contributed so far:
Ford Motor Company has donating $250,000 and a Transit Connect to the American Red Cross, and it will match all other donations made to the Red Cross (up to $250,000) using a special URL tied to the latter's website (link here). Additionally, its local Oklahoma dealers have thrown in an extra $150,000 for the United Way and the automaker will be offering an extra $500 toward the purchase of a new Ford vehicle.

Ford confirms Everest SUV production for China

Sat, 19 Apr 2014

According to Ford, the Chinese SUV segment grew by 49 percent in 2013, and the Blue Oval held a 4.5 percent market share. At the 2014 Beijing Motor Show, Ford is showing the Everest SUV that, while just a concept for now, will go into production in the near future.
The Everest is a big, brawny seven-seat SUV that mixes solid, chiseled styling and contemporary Ford design cues. Up front there is an angular version of the trapezoidal grille and sharp, wraparound headlights. The beltline rises in the rear to make the back appear higher than the front. The rear seems just as chiseled, with the taillights resting in jagged scallops. There is no doubt that this concept means to look rugged, and ready for rough roads - the whole thing looks pretty great.
The truck was penned by Ford's Asia Pacific design and engineering team in Australia, and it was first shown in Sydney last year. Ford's JMC joint venture will build the truck for the Chinese market, and it will be sold at Ford dealers there. The Blue Oval isn't hinting at what powers the production version yet, but it reportedly shares some components with the foreign-market Ranger.
