1963 Ford Falcon Ranchero. 302 V-8 and stick shift "on the tree". Motor runs very smooth, has good oil pressure, doesn't smoke or drip, and runs cool. The transmission shifts easily and is quiet, as is the rear end. Overall very nice little truck, it is very dependable and quite presentable. It is an older restore, but has been well maintained. The interior is very nice and the paint only has a few little flaws. The truck is driven daily as needed and never lets me down. It is an original 5 lug, 260 v-8 vehicle. Parts are readily available for these trucks through several sources. Can be driven while you restore or just drive like it is. There is minor surface rust on the bumpers, might even polish out. It did have a professional repair of the common problem with the well under the front of the bed. Looks good now and is sealed well. I do have it for sale locally too, so reserve the right to end early, but vow to leave it on E-Bay once the very reasonable reserve is met. I think that is only fair. So bid early and fairly and I'll hold it for you. I have the title in hand and the vehicle is licensed and insured in my name. It is being sold as-is where is. But I can help find a shipper and will assist getting it on a transport. Or drive it home. I bought this truck from an elderly guy that used it on his small ranch for hauling dog food, chicken food etc. He had most of the work done about 10 years ago but drove it minimally and always kept it up. Please let me know if you want more pictures or have further questions. My number is (805) 462-9515 I am only selling because I've started on a Studebaker pickup project and could use the bucks! I don't have a real professional camera so hope that I am able to convey how nice it is. I didn't detail under the hood as I think the buyer should see it as it is as a driver. The previous owner did give me a complete, ($300.), wiring loom, as the original is getting old. But since everything is working I just never installed it. The loom will come with the truck. It has a spare and jack mounted behind the driver's seat.

One of the people watching this truck e mailed me and said the motor is not a 302!! It runs so strong and the previous owner told me that it was, so not being a mechanic I thought it was a 302. Today I took it to a local shop and their concensus was that it is a 289 or possibly a 260, but not a 302. I personally don't feel that it takes away from the value. But if I'm wrong, let me know. I can cancel and start over, as an option, but rather not pay the extra fee! I don't want anyone to be disappointed after purchase.

How privacy fears are driving automakers in the age of the connected car [w/poll]

Wed, Aug 27 2014

A recent GAO report concluded car companies don't adequately disclose how and why they share location data. As cars collect and store more and more data about the whereabouts of their drivers, automakers are responding to critics who say they should be more transparent about how those details are used. Ford is hiring a global privacy policy attorney to craft the company's customer privacy policies in the era of connected and autonomous cars. "In this emerging space, there is an important need to address customer privacy policies," reads a job description posted on the "people and careers" portion of the company's website. "As part of our compliance and ethics organization at Ford, this person will have an immediate and direct impact in shaping existing and future policy and corporate thinking in this area." Ford is creating the new position, based at its Dearborn headquarters, at a time technology advances are outpacing privacy protections. Earlier this year, a report from the federal government concluded car companies don't adequately disclose to motorists how and why they share location data. That report, from the Government Accountability Office, found many car companies did not describe how they shared location data, did not allow consumers to request their data be deleted and that there was a "wide variation" in how car companies retained vehicle-specific or identifiable location data. It noted there is increased risk of location data being used in ways "consumers did not intend." Ford was one of 10 companies the GAO surveyed while compiling its report. Customers are opting to share that data largely by using features like maps and turn-by-turn direction that are run by a vehicle's telematics unit. Depending on the company, it can be unclear how that data is collected, retained or shared. At the time the GAO report was issued, AAA, the nation's largest motoring club, urged carmakers to be more transparent in how they handle data and to offer stronger security protections. Shaping Autonomous Car Regulations At Ford, the new hire could change how the company handles that data. According to the job description, the successful applicant will, "demonstrate visionary thinking around privacy strategy – imagine how consumer and employee expectations around privacy may evolve and how business should adapt, develop approaches that maximize the benefit of data sharing for consumers and business, etc." (Emphasis from Ford).

Reborn Ford Escort could make its way to Europe

Fri, 26 Apr 2013

The Ford Escort concept just unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show was created with the Chinese market in mind, but it's got people talking all over the world. Not purely fancy, the point of the Escort concept was to give Chinese buyers a preview of what they could expect to see in a Ford showroom in the near future. If Ford wasn't seriously considering the new Escort for other countries, a report in Auto Express indicates that the concept's reception has changed all that.
No less than the incoming chairman of Ford UK said "it could work in other places," bolstering the comments of "a senior Ford insider" who said the question of bringing the car to Europe to slot in underneath the Focus had been raised. That's a long way from anything of the kind happening, which would require Ford to figure out how to sell it for the right price and not torpedo the company reputation among Euro buyers. In any case, we'd be as intrigued as anyone if an Escort resurrection created the next 'who knew?' market segment of few-frills transportation offered by non-Asian carmakers.

2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E, Volvo XC40 Recharge score high in IIHS tests

Thu, Apr 22 2021

New electric cars continue their streak of impressive crash test results. The two latest to go through Insurance Institute for Highway Safety testing are the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E and the 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge. The former earned a Top Safety Pick award, and the latter picked up the Top Safety Pick+ commendation. Both vehicles got the top "Good" rating in every crash test, as well as the "Superior" rating for vehicle-to-vehicle collision prevention. They deviate when it comes to headlights and vehicle-to-pedestrian collision prevention. Because the Volvo has headlights rated "Good" on all trims, it got that extra "+" on its Top Safety Pick award. The Ford also has high-rated headlights available, but the standard units got the second lowest rating of "Marginal." As for the vehicle-to-pedestrian collision prevention, the Volvo received the second-highest "Advanced" rating, while the Ford was rated "Superior." Among the electric cars IIHS has tested, the Ford and Volvo continue a streak of high scores. The organization has evaluated the Audi E-Tron in both its body styles, as well as the Tesla Model 3, both of which get the Top Safety Pick+ rating. As a result of the XC40 Recharge's test score, Volvo pointed out that it is the only automaker whose entire lineup has received a Top Safety Pick+ rating.
