Two Ford Trucks F3 And F5 on 2040-cars
Choteau, Montana, United States
Engine:Flathead Eight
Drive Type: Rear
Make: Ford
Mileage: 0
Model: Other Pickups
Warranty: Vehicle does NOT have an existing warranty
Trim: goofy eBay here
Offered for auction are TWO 1948 Ford F model Trucks - one is an F3 and is nearly complete, including the stock Flathead engine. The other is an F5 with cab, fenders and hood on two ton frame. It does not have engine or trans. These cabs will likely interchange with 1948, 1949, 1950 and perhaps '51 and '52 cabs.
The F5 has been in the family since the 1950s and is very low mileage and virtually rust free (cab, floorboards, etc, with minor surface rust) The F3 was purchased many years ago to perhaps renew the use of the F% or to run separately. It is, as you can see (the red one) unrestored.
The F3 one ton is also very nearly rust free, except in the base of the box and the floor of the box itself.
Both trucks have dents and the dash of the F5 was modified to accept a later radio many years ago.
No attempt has been made to crank the flathead engine and so no assertions regarding it can be made, except that it is intact and accessories are present.
The two are both candidates for restoration, perhaps with other parts. Either would greatly help an otherwise good running truck that needed a solid cab - which both of these are.
Both cabs have broken glass and dents. The hood of the F5 is probably damaged beyond anything but a major rehab.
I have only one title - for the F5, and will supply "AS IS" Bill of Sale for all parts (both identified trucks)
I will also accommodate the dismantling of the F5 if the buyer wants only the sheet metal parts (for a fixed additional cost we can discuss and agree upon ahead of time.)
The Pluses:
* The F3 is nearly complete. I may miss noting the absence of a few parts, but they will be small ones.
* You might see on the surface of the two cabs but it is just that, a thin layer of easily removable surface rust.
* These are Montana vehicles, for at least the past 40 years. As such, much of the corrosion and rust issues of other regional cars is not there.
* Some of the flat glass may need replacing, but then that is no problem.
* There is a clear title in my hot little hand.
The frame, rocker panels and underbelly appear to be very solid. The trucks appear to have never been wrecked or substantively repaired. There is no visible bondo or other filler anywhere.
The Negatives:
* There is isolated rust. The bed of the F3 has rust on the sides of it. both floor pans seem very solid, indeed.
* There are a couple of the flat glass windows which are cracked - easily replaceable just about anywhere.
* There are a number of minor dents and the F5 hood, espceially, is pretty dinged.
* The interiors are largely complete. Some of the nobs and handles are missing.
* It needs all the standard attention any unrestored 60 odd-year old trucks would likely need.
This is an awesome project package or very nice replacement cabs for rolling stock you may have.

Please look at the pictures and let me know if you need more. I would be happy to respond to individual issues and questions.
This is an actual AUCTION. I do have a very low reserve on the vehicles, but it is half what one might expect for this model in this condition. Bid to win!
Buyer is responsible for transportation of the car from my doorstep, but I will assist in any way I can.
A deposit of $500 is expected within 24 hours of the end of the auction via PayPal unless arranged otherwise in advance. The entire balance is due with PayPal, cash or bank wire within 14 days of the end of the auction.
The vehicles do not leave until funds are cleared and personal and cashier’s checks are not OK.
You MAY leave the trucks, once paid for, here until July 8, 2013, giving you an opportunity to come get the car as part of a vacation to MONTANA. See Glacier Park, just 85 miles away (and leave the trailer here for when you are ready to load up and go home), tour through Yellowstone coming or going; visit the Lewis and Clark Trail or float the most scenic parts of the Upper Missouri River. Come, Play, and take a new project away when you head home.
Please look at my many years of 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK and BID WITH CONFIDENCE. I have bought several cars and hundreds of car parts on Ebay over the years and will certainly try to treat you the way I'd like to be treated
I can be reached at 406 4 six 6 two 644. Thank you for your time and interest!

Ford, GM still doing new business with Takata amidst airbag crisis
Thu, Nov 20 2014Lengthy vehicle development times make it difficult for automakers to cut and run from the supplier. You might expect automakers to be fleeing any connection with beleaguered supplier Takata in the wake of the company's exploding airbag inflator crisis. After all, with a Senate hearing, pending lawsuit, plummeting stock value and demand for a national recall, the tier-one supplier isn't at its strongest right now. However, years of cooperation mean that automakers are standing by Takata, and necessity may be playing a role, as well. About 39 percent of Takata's business comes from airbags, and seatbelts make up another significant chunk of the operation too, says Bloomberg. The long-term relationships and lengthy vehicle development times make it difficult for automakers to cut and run from the supplier. "Takata has so much product breadth that I don't really see that they could just disappear," said AutoPacific analyst Dave Sullivan to Bloomberg. For example, Takata helped develop the unique front center airbag with General Motors in models like the Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave. Outside of safety tech, it is also a partner with Ford on the adaptive steering system available on the upcoming 2015 Edge. These long-lasting partnerships make change difficult now that there's a problem. According to Reuters, automakers claim it would take a year or longer to set up with a different supplier for replacement airbag inflators. Switching to a completely different part for the repairs might not be a viable option either, because of the engineering time needed. BMW is taking action, though. According to Reuters, the Bavarian brand is working with the supplier to move inflator production from Monclova, Mexico, to a Takata factory in Freiburg, Germany. The Mexican plant may be the source of some of the faulty parts. News Source: Bloomberg, ReutersImage Credit: Jens Meyer / AP Photo BMW Ford GM Safety Takata airbag recall
Ford recalling 126,000 Fusions and Milans over wheel separation concern
Fri, 09 Dec 2011Ford has announced a recall of certain Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan vehicles after an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. A total of 128,616 2010 and 2011 models equipped with steel wheels may have been manufactured with wheel studs that could crack and split over time. If that happens, the vehicle may experience a wheel separation.
According to The Detroit News, the company is aware of a total of 30 wheel separation incidents, one of which occurred on the front of the vehicle. Even so, no injuries have been reported as a result of the defect.
The problem apparently stems from the fact that the mounting pads on the vehicles' steel wheels may have been faulty from the factory. In addition, the wheel mounting face on rear disc brakes may not have been installed properly. Ford will inspect the rear disc face and replace them as necessary. In addition, the company will replace all of the vehicle's wheel studs free of charge. Head to the NHTSA website for more information, and click past the jump to view the full recall notice.
Project Ugly Horse: Part VIII
Fri, 17 May 2013Now With More EcoBoost
There's an EcoBoost 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder in there somewhere, and it's headed straight for Ugly Horse.
For the second time in my life, I'm staring at an engine in the back of a truck with no concept of how to get it safely into the garage by my lonesome. The first time this happened, I dragged home a $300 International 345 V8 in the back of my Scout Terra only to discover that the bounds of my manliness terminated well before my ability to muscle that 800-pound cast iron block out of the pickup bed.
