1950 Ford F1 Lightning Street Rod Hot Rod Truck on 2040-cars
Bryan, Texas, United States
This truck was on ebay a few weeks ago and did sell to a new owner. The new owner paid me but then found another truck he liked better. So, I still have possession of the truck, and he has asked me to try and sell it again. Everything is the same and the truck is still in storage. I was in the process of assembling the complete truck to make sure everything fit and worked. The next step was to take the truck apart, paint, and reassemble. Lots of items have been installed to make sure they fit including the Vintage air, power windows, windshield wipers, lights, gauge cluster, seat, etc. Some of these parts have been taken out and boxed back up until they are needed for reassembly. The truck can still be started and driven around. It runs great and sounds great. The engine is very powerful and fires up fast and easy even after sitting a few months. The chassis is original but has been boxed and modified. The independent front suspension is from a 1984 Chrysler 5th Avenue (Volare type). It is a common swap for these trucks. The whole front suspension has been rebuilt with new parts. The rear end is from a 93 Ford Lightning truck. It is a 4:10 limited slip rear. The complete drivetrain (351 Windsor & E40D automatic), wiring, instrument cluster, steering column, fuel tank, and many other parts are from a 1993 Ford Lightning truck. I bought all of those items from a 93 Lightning that had been totaled with 50,000 miles on it. That mileage still shows on the digital odometer. The SVT Lightning engine has GT-40-type cast-iron cylinder heads, a tuned intake manifold, tubular stainless-steel headers, larger intake (1.84-inch) and exhaust valves (1.54-inch), high-flow ports, high-rate capacity fuel pump and injectors, revised combustion chambers. Stock it is 240 horsepower and 340 torque. I hooked everything up just like it came out of the Lightning and it fires right up and runs like a new truck. The engine can be hooked up to any scan tool through the ALDL connector to check any engine codes. The radiator is a custom made US Radiator with an Optima core. It currently has dual exhaust with flowmasters. All parts that I have bought go with the truck. Some of these are the Vintage Air unit, power window kit, Billet A/C vents & controls, A/C condensor, many custom made parts, automatic flip license plate kit, new suspension parts, LED taillight kit, Rod Doors headliner & interior panel kit, etc. The body is completely rust free. I cut out any rust and welded in new metal. The firewall and floorboards are custom made. The top has been chopped 2 1/2". The windshield has been angled back slightly. About 95% of the bodywork has been done. The complete truck has been block sanded at least twice. Most of the parts are ready for a final block sanding and paint. There are a few areas that I would do a little more bodywork on and then reprime, but that is minimal. There are lots of body mods including custom made running boards, door sills, and a custom rear roll pan. The rear roll pan has an area that flips when the key is on to expose the license plate. When the key turns off, the area flips back to hide the plate. The truck bed is brand new including the Pro's Pick brand smooth tailgate which was a $930 tailgate kit. A Hagan fuel door is welded into the left rear fender to put gas in. All door gaps have been welded/ground to be perfect and even. Hidden door hinges were installed. Body lines are perfect. The cowl vent and door handles have been shaved. The original hood side openings have been modified look better. Bumpers have been removed. Taillights are led and fit into slots cut into the rear of the bed. Bed roll ends have teardrop ends that are all welded and boxed in. I custom made the fiberglass dash and molded it around the 93 Lightning instrument cluster. It is removable with just a few bolts. Before Rod Doors went out of business, I bought their kit for the 50 Ford so the ABS plastic headliner and rear cab panels are installed in the truck and fit nicely. The seat is a 40/20/40 bench from a Dodge Dakota with a fold down console and cup holders. I fabricated a seat riser and the seat is bolted in place. The Lightning gauges work as well as cruise control, abs brakes, and windshield wipers work off of the original Lightning switch on the blinker knob. There are many other minor details but everything was done right with no expense spared. To finish, it needs final body fixes (very minor), paint, glass, weatherstrip, bed wood, wheels & tires, and the interior done. The front wheels shown in the pics do not go with the truck. I'll put on some other front roller wheels & tires when the truck sells. I have over $20K invested in this project in parts alone. I have over 600 hours of labor into it also. I have a clear Texas title in my name. I encourage anyone to come and look at the truck and hear it run. I do have the truck for sale locally so I have the right to cancel the auction at any time. I can store the truck for a few months if needed, but require full payment within 7 days of the sale. No exceptions. Please don't hesitate to ask questions. Does the new 2015 Ford Mustang have a burnout control system?
Tue, 10 Dec 2013Whether it's lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring or automatic emergency braking, most of the electronic systems we see emerging on new vehicles focus on safety. But there are some there just for enthusiasts. We're talking about systems like automatic throttle blipping for perfect downshifts, or launch control to get that textbook acceleration from a standstill. But the latest system could prove just the opposite of the latter.
Although it has given us most of the details, Ford is still keeping certain elements of its new Mustang secret. But emerging reports may have the skinny on one system which Ford is trying is darnedest to keep under its hat for the time being. That, according to unnamed sources cited by Motor Authority, is burnout control.
The system is reportedly designed to help novices execute the perfect smokey burnout - sort of like launch control, but specifically the opposite. The system could, according to elaborative speculation, lock the front brakes while spooling up the engine to optimal revolutions before dumping (or indicating the driver to do dump) the clutch. A cloud of tire smoke and a long pair of skid marks would then ensue.
Ford launches pair of recalls affecting fullsize sedans and Transit Connect van
Wed, Jan 28 2015Ford has announced a pair of pretty significant recalls affecting the 2010-2013 Ford Taurus and Police Interceptor, as well as their platform-mate, the Lincoln MKS. A separate recall covers the 2014 Transit Connect. The fullsize sedans include 205,000 vehicles built at Chicago Assembly over a variety of timeframes, ranging between December 1, 2009 and November 30, 2012. The vehicles, 194,889 of which were sold in the United States, have an issue with the spring controls on the interior door handles that could cause the door to open in a side-impact crash. The Transit Connect recall, meanwhile, includes 16,100 vans built between November 6, 2013 and September 20,2014 at the company's Valencia, Spain factory. In these vehicles, the seatbelt fasteners may not have been tightened properly, which could cause them to loosen over time, a condition that's obviously bad news in the event of a crash. Ford says it is not aware of any accidents, injuries or crashes in either recall. Owners will, of course, be notified and asked to report in for inspections and if necessary, free replacements. Scroll down for the full press release from Ford, which includes the complete breakdown of dates during which the affected sedans were built in Chicago. JAN 28, 2015 | DEARBORN, MICH. FORD ISSUES TWO SAFETY RECALLS Ford is issuing two safety recalls. No accidents or injuries are attributed to either of these conditions. Details are as follows: Ford issues safety recall for certain 2010-2013 Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS and Ford Police Interceptor sedans for interior door handle issue Ford is issuing a safety recall for approximately 205,000 2010-2013 Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS and Ford Police Interceptor sedans due to an issue with the spring that controls the interior door handles. If the spring is unseated, the door may become unlatched in a side-impact crash, increasing the risk of injury. Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition. Affected vehicles include certain 2010-2013 Ford Taurus vehicles built Dec. 1, 2009 to July 31, 2010 and Feb. 1, 2011 to Nov. 30, 2012 at Chicago Assembly Plant; certain 2010-2013 Lincoln MKS vehicles built June 2, 2011 to Oct. 31, 2011 at Chicago Assembly Plant; and certain 2010-2013 Ford Police Interceptor sedans built Dec. 1, 2009 to July 31, 2010 and Feb. 1, 2011 to Nov. 30, 2012 at Chicago Assembly Plant.
