Offered for your consideration is a very special 2006 Shelby GT-H. Shelby American Automobiles serial number CSM 06H354, this vehicle is one of only 500 GT-H’s built in 2006, and is one of only 23 sold to Hertz Vice Presidents, thus never saw rental car duty. These Executive Cars were never placed in the rental fleet.   I am the second owner of this vehicle, having purchased it from the original owner Hertz VP directly. It has led a pampered life, showing only 8804 miles on the odometer, as of this ad placement. Always garaged, and never driven in inclement weather.   This car is for the discerning collector. Its pedigree is legendary, having been produced to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Hertz’s original tie up with Carroll Shelby back on 1966. This GT-H comes complete with literally a stunning level of documentation, including: original Ford window sticker, original invoice from Shelby Automobiles to Hertz for work performed at Shelby’s Las Vegas shop, what appears to be every email correspondence between the Hertz VP who purchased the vehicle new and the Hertz organization facilitating its production and shipment, and collateral ephemera made available by Hertz to the purchasing VP.   The car is in close to mint condition, although there are a couple very small paint/stripe blemishes. Car is completely original - no cosmetic item replacements, etc. Mechanically, it is excellent, and passed an extensive state safety inspection a short time ago. The car is 100% stock and unmodified, with only a replacement Ford battery.   All 2006 Shelby GT-H’s began as 2006 Ford Mustang GT Premium cars, however Hertz tweaked the normal package, for example substituting the V6 car’s faux rear gas cap featuring the pony instead of the standard GT cap. The vehicles were shipped to the Las Vegas Shelby American facility for conversion into true, serialized Shelby vehicles. Shelby work performed included Ford Racing performance suspension & handling package installation, Ford Racing exhausts and pipes, addition of a cold air intake, computer reflash, conversion of the dual exhaust into a free-flowing exhaust with X-pipe in place of the standard Ford H-pipe, 3.55 rear axle gearing not available from Ford directly on automatic equipped 2006 Mustang GT’s, exclusive fiberglass hand made Shelby hood with locking pins, unique front clip, unique grill, Hertz racing stripes, unique exterior and interior badging, steel wire with lead clasp engine tether to prohibit engine tampering, and unique Hertz exterior chrome fender badges.     I am happy to work with buyer to facilitate their chosen transportation as reasonable. Full payment in hand/bank cleared on checks and money orders required to facilitate transfer of ownership/ handover to transportation company. The bottom line is this is one of the very finest 2006 Shelby GT-H’s in existence. There is NO other GT-H better documented than this vehicle. If you must have the very best example, please give this car your serious consideration.

8 cars we're most looking forward to driving in 2015

Mon, Jan 5 2015

Now that 2014 is officially in the books, it's time to look ahead. And following our list of the cars we liked best last year, we're now setting our sights at the hot new metal that's coming our way in 2015. Some of these, we've already seen. And some are still set to debut during the 2015 auto show season. But these are the machines that keep us going – the things on the horizon that we're particularly stoked to drive, and drive hard. Jeep Renegade Not the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Not the Ford Mustang GT350. Not the new John Cooper Works Mini. Nope, I'm looking forward to the adorable, trail-rated Jeep Renegade. And that's because I really, really, really like our long-term Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. I do not, however, care too much for the Cherokee's looks, and I really don't like its $38,059 price tag. The Renegade Trailhawk, meanwhile, promises much of the same rough-and-tumble character as its big brother, but at what we expect will be a more reasonable price (I'm personally wagering on the baby Jeep's off-road model starting at no more than $23,000). With a 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a nine-speed automatic, it should also be a bit easier to fill than the V6-powered Cherokee. Also, I can't help but love the way the Renegade looks. It's like someone took a Wrangler, squished it by 50 percent and then handed it off to George Clinton for a healthy dose of funk. The interior, with its bright, expressive trims and color schemes should also be a really nice place to spend some time. I'll be attending the Renegade's launch later this month, so I'll have a much shorter wait than my colleagues. Here's hoping the baby Jeep lives up to my expectations. – Brandon Turkus Associate Editor Mazda MX-5 Miata Here's an uncomfortable truth: I'd rather spend a day driving a properly sorted Mazda MX-5 Miata of any generation on a winding road than I would nearly any other vehicle, regardless of power, price or prestige. It's not just that I prize top-down driving and enjoy the Miata's small size because it gives me more road to play with. I just find there's more motoring joy to be had with high-fidelity handling and an uncorrupted car-to-driver communication loop than I do with face-distorting power or grip – let alone valet-stand gravitas. But perhaps most of all, I love Miatas because they can deliver that level of feedback and driver reward at modest speeds that won't put the locals on edge or endanger lives – you can use more of the car more of the time.

Ford blamed in drug mule lawsuit

Tue, 30 Jul 2013

If a college student is caught smuggling drugs across the border, one might think the kid got what was coming to him. But when a Mexican student at the University of Texas in El Paso was caught by Border Patrol agents with duffel bags filled with marijuana in his trunk, the man used a classic excuse: He claimed they weren't his.
While a claim like that is almost unbelievable, Ricardo Magallanes, the student, is now suing Ford for handling its vehicles' key codes negligently enough to allow drug smugglers to break into his Ford Focus and stash the drugs, The Daily Caller reports. The twist here is that four other people who lived in Juarez and worked in El Paso were involved in the same type of scheme - allegedly unwittingly, just like Magallanes - and all the cars were Fords except one model from General Motors. FBI agents also found an employee at a Dallas Ford dealership that had accessed the key codes to all four of the cannabis-stuffed Fords.
While we all may not own Fords, the case still causes us slight paranoia. We'll definitely be checking our trunks before we cross any more international borders.

Hennessey completes first VelociRaptor SUV conversion [w/video]

Mon, 20 May 2013

Start with a Ford F-150 SVT Raptor as your base vehicle for modification, and chances are high that you'll end up with something pretty cool. Now, have those modifications done by professional lunatics Hennessey Performance, make the project turning the pickup into an ultra-long SUV, and the result stands a real chance of being a total kick in the ass. Let us present the Hennessey VelociRaptor then, in all of its awesomeness.
Hennessey has taken care in grafting a "Expedition style" rear cabin onto the Raptor, complete with an optional third row. The pictures we have show a cabin that's up to the fit and finish standards of the original Ford truck, too. The cab added over the bed also makes room for a massive load space out back, accessible via split out-folding doors and long enough for a person to lay down in (see video).
Mechanically, the truck-turned-SUV sticks with Ford's stock 6.2-liter V8, rated at 411 horsepower, or can be had with a supercharger and some 600 hp. Hennessey says the stock-motor VelociRaptor will run from 0-60 miles per hour in 7.5 seconds, while the hi-po version takes just 5.9 seconds. The SUV does take some of the off-road ability away from the Raptor, with the company saying it hasn't yet had the opportunity to test its capabilities. On-roading and "moderate off-road duties" are the current prescription.
