Ford readying three-row Edge for China
Fri, Nov 21 2014The next-generation Ford Edge will be available with quite a growth spurt for its debut in China next year, with newly announced plans also to build and sell a three-row version exclusively in the People's Republic. However, markets outside of there likely won't see the larger model. Ford marketing boss (and future head of Ford of Europe) Jim Farley announced the three-row version of the crossover at the Los Angeles Auto Show, according to Automotive News. To create the extra room, Ford made the Chinese-built variant about 16 inches longer than its two-row counterpart. Farley didn't specify at which of the Blue Oval's plants in the country this model would be assembled. The Explorer and forthcoming Everest already offer three rows from the Ford lineup in China, but the company thinks the market can easily support all of them. According to Farley to Automotive News, the utility segment is up 485 percent in the country since 2008. Customers in the US can still look forward to the two-row Edge hitting dealers early next year. It'll be the first model in the Blue Oval's lineup here to come standard with EcoBoost power.
Road & Track samples rare 1995 Ford Mustang Cobra R
Sat, Jun 6 2015The modern performance variant of the Ford Mustang enjoys a long, illustrious history. While well-known examples like the Boss 302, Shelby GT350, and Shelby GT500 get all the attention, the modern versions of these cars may not have been possible had it not been for the three generations of the Cobra R, sold in 1993, 1995, and 2000. Limited to just 250 examples, the second-generation model wasn't as rare as the Fox-body Cobra R that preceded it, but they were still pricey and difficult to acquire. Customers were required to hold a competition license in order to take delivery, and prices were roughly equivalent to $59,000 in today's money. As Road & Track tells it, neither of those facts were a handicap – Ford sold its entire roster of 1995 Cobra Rs in just five days. RT's Jack Baruth managed to score a drive in an extremely low-mileage example of this now-vintage track star. He delivers an interesting look into the way a performance car from two decades ago behaves in today's world, and finds that despite its age, the 1995 Cobra R is still "a true sweetheart." 2015 Ford Mustang revs it up at Cars & Coffee
Mon, 09 Dec 2013Just because the new 2015 Ford Mustang has officially been released, you didn't think that would be the end of the matter - did you? Of course not. There'll still be plenty of rumors, reports and video footage to bring you. Like this, the first non-official footage of the new pony car in the wild.
Shot by YouTube user SotA1080 and dug up by our friends at CarBuzz, this clip shows the new Mustang posing for photos (alongside other Mustangs) and starting up its engine at the most recent gathering of Cars & Coffee in Irvine, CA. And this being the GT model, it's not packing the V6 or the turbo four, but the red-blooded 5.0-liter V8 that tells us and enthusiasts worldwide that the new Mustang has not lost its way. Scroll on down to watch the footage for yourself.
