I have owned my SVO since 1989 when it had 29K miles. I have always kept it garaged and never abused the SVO or drove it in bad weather.  This SVO is tight, has good power, handles well and looks great.
Here's a detailed list of pros and cons:

PROS
Excellent mechanical condition, body and interior
Never hit - all original sheetmetal and glass
Everything works except a/c - It is complete but needs to be serviced
Car was fully repainted in 1998 and paint is still excellent. No door dings or dents
I replaced the valve stem seals in the past 2-3K miles. Burns no oil-excellent compression
I remoted the TFI module from distributor to fender apron
Original seats were replaced by me with a set I purchased from a low mileage totalled SVO
I replaced the interior carpet and still have replacement hatch area carpet in box
New SSBC rotors, pads and rebuilt calipers all around
New Kumho tires
Clutch was replaced at 29K and still works perfectly - I have always babied this car
Original rag joint replaced with Flaming River steering shaft
OEM replacement rear exhaust pipe. Current exhaust is fine but twin chrome tips are rusting
Retained original parts I replaced such as temp control module, original Marchal fog lights, front parking light bezels and rag joint
Numerous spare parts included e.g. spare TFI module & wrench, plugs, cap/rotor, oil
New Marchal fog lights with two sets of covers
I have service and inspection paperwork dating back to 1988
Has factory sunroof, PW, PDL, premium sound system
CONS
A/C is complete but needs to be serviced
Small scuff marks on corners of passenger side bumpers front and rear (pulling in and out of garage) - if you look closely at photos you can see the marks
Two inch scratch on hatchback near passenger side upper wing
A few small paint chips on nose
Car has 1986 lower wing (working third brake light) replaced by previous owner
Headliner is not torn but is wrinkled over rear seats and needs to be reattached
Some of the interior plastic panels have scratches and could be repainted if you wanted to
A single thread is loose on the driver seat

Ford shows off V8-powered Ranger headed to Dakar Rally

Tue, 30 Jul 2013

Avert your eyes now if you're jealous that the global version of the Ford Ranger is not offered in the US. Ford's midsize pickup is being tuned up to take on the 2014 Dakar Rally, and the result is a truck that is probably even cooler than any F-150 SVT Raptor we've ever seen in the States. Ford is actually building two versions of the truck for Dakar, which will run from January 5 through January 18, covering more than 5,000 miles from Argentina to Chile.
Starting with a fully composite body and a 5.0-liter V8 plucked from a Mustang, nearly every aspect of the trucks have been purpose built to take on the grueling race. This includes things like the six-speed sequential gearbox, liquid-cooled rear brakes and the 132-gallon fuel tank. As proof that Dakar is more about endurance than speed, the engines used in these race trucks will be limited to around 350 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, and will max out at a top speed of just 105 miles per hour. Scroll down for Ford's official press release offering more information about the trucks and teams being prepped for Dakar.

Even Ford executives had issues with MyFord Touch

Fri, Oct 7 2016

MyFord Touch is one of the auto industry's more controversial features. The media broadly panned the infotainment system developed with Microsoft for its slow responses and reliance on voice commands to navigate its deep menus. Oh, and Ford executives weren't big fans, either. Newly revealed court documents in a California class-action lawsuit demonstrate the level of venom Ford employees, both big and small, reserved for the Blue Oval's infotainment system. An error caused Bill Ford's navigation system to crash, leaving the family scion stuck on the side of the road in an unfamiliar area. The documents, unearthed by Forbes, detail current CEO Mark Fields' aggravations with MFT, too. A mechanic emailed an image of a cracked infotainment screen on an Edge to one of Ford's top Sync engineers, Kenneth Williams, suggesting "Mark Fields may have been a little aggravated with the system." But Ford and Fields' issues are nothing compared to the woes of the engineers that had to work on MFT. In a collection of emails obtained by Forbes, one engineer called the system "a polished turd," while another simply said, "These poor customers." And after one engineer suggested using a photo of Ford's Oakville Assembly Plant – home of the Edge, Flex, Lincoln MKX, and MKT production – as a background for the system, one of his coworkers said in an email that someone should instead Photoshop the image to read "abandon hope all ye who enter here," the Detroit News reports. Another summed up the problem, saying: "Ford's quality reputation is completely on the line ... another model year with the same crap is not acceptable." MyFord Touch almost single-handedly torpedoed Ford's reputation in widely reported quality metrics, including JD Power and Consumer Reports. Ford responded with a refreshed Sync3, a wildly improved rethink of its infotainment system that is far more responsive and easier to live with every day. Car-crazy 5-year-old boy writes automakers for treasures, gets big response

Fri, Jan 25 2019

Part of the beauty of children is that they can find worth in something adults might deem unworthy or overlook entirely. Five-year-old Patch Hurty didn't see garbage or a broken piece of a car when he spotted a Ford badge lying on the side of a road. He saw an artifact, a souvenir, a start to a collection he could only dream of. Ezra Dyer of Popular Mechanics tells the story of Patch and his quest to turn that one lost badge into a museum of manufacturer logos. According to the article, Hurty is a car fanatic through and through, even using car names as a way of learning to read. After finding the Ford badge near his Connecticut home, he and his mom put together a plan to reach out to dozens of automakers, confessing his love of things on four wheels. In each letter, Patch assembled a picture of himself standing next to one of the cars, and a penny to pay for whatever he hoped was sent his way. The response was unexpectedly and overwhelmingly positive. Of the more than 50 letters he sent out, including to obscure or defunct companies such as Bugatti, Suzuki, and Saturn, a majority responded with warm notes and some type of souvenir. Two of the coolest responses came from Lincoln and Bentley. Lincoln sent a sketch of a Continental (all car lovers enjoy drawing cars, right?), and Bentley sent a wheel center cap. How awesome is that? The story reminds us of something that can easily be lost in all of the negativity involved with the auto industry: Everybody is in this because of a common infatuation with automobiles. For more details on the souvenirs Patch received and accompanying photos, read the rest of the story. Related Video: News Source: Popular Mechanics Read This Bentley Bugatti Ford Lincoln Saturn Suzuki
