EVERY CAR HAS A STORY, SO HERE IS THE STORY ON THIS WHITE 2003 FORD MUSTANG MACH 1.  I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM A MATURE SCHOOL TEACHER FROM OHIO IN SEPTEMBER OF 2004.  AT THAT TIME THE MACH 1 HAD APPROXIMATELY 450 MILES.  THE TEACHER TOLD ME THAT THE REASON HE WAS SELLING THE CAR WAS THAT IT WAS BUILT FOR A YOUNG PERSON.  I WAS ABOUT THE TEACHERS AGE, SO I REALLY DIDN'T AGREE THAT THE CAR WAS MADE FOR A YOUNG PERSON.  MOST LIKELY THE REASON WAS HE ONLY HAD A ONE CAR GARAGE AND HIS WIFE DIDN'T WANT TO SPEND ANOTHER WINTER SCRAPPING THE FROST AND SNOW OFF HER CAR.

I HAVE KEPT THE MACH 1 MOSTLY ORIGINAL DURING THE NINE YEARS THAT I HAVE OWNED IT.  I DID ADD THE REAR BLACK WINDOW LOUVERS, BLACK LETTERING IN THE REAR BUMPER AND THE COLD AIR IN-TAKE SYSTEM.  I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR APPROXIAMTELY 700 MILES PER YEAR.  IT HAS LESS THAN 8,000 ORIGINAL MILES.  I USED THE MACH 1 MOSTLY FOR CRUISE-IN'S AND CAR SHOWS.

I RECENTLY JUST TOOK IT TO WARREN, MICHIGAN AND GOT TO CRUISE THE WOODWARD AVENUE YEARLY EVENT.  THE CAR RAN GREAT AND AVERAGED ABOUT 25 MILES PER GALLON.  IF YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN TO THE YEARLY WOODWARD AVENUE CRUISE EVENT, I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT YOU PUT THAT ON YOUR BUCKET LIST.

THE MACH 1 HAS ALWAYS BEEN STORED AND COVERED IN A GARAGE.  IT HAS NEVER SEEN A WINTER, BUT HAS BEEN IN THE RAIN A FEW TIMES.  THE MACH 1 HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY TYPE OF ACCIDENT.  THE CAR DOES HAVE A FEW SMALL ROCK CHIPS AND A SMALL SCRATCH ON THE LOWER BLACK STRIPE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE.  YOU WOULD MOST LIKELY NOT NOTICE THE SCRATCH IF I DIDN'T MENTION IT.  THERE ARE NO LEAKS OF ANY KIND AND EVERYTHING WORKS AS IT WAS DESIGNED.  I HAVE ALWAYS MADE SURE THAT THE OIL GOT CHANGED ONCE EVERY YEAR.

THE MACH 1 IS FULLY EQUIPPED.  IT HAS THE 4.6 LITER 8 CYLINDER DOUBLE OVER HEAD CAM WITH 32 VALUES (APPROXIAMTELY 305 HORSES, WHICH IS APPROXIAMTELY 50 MORE HORSES THAN THE SAME YEAR GT MUSTANG.  THE CAR HAS POWER WINDOWS, POWER DRIVER'S SEAT, POWER DOOR LOCKS WITH TWO KEY FOBS, POWER STEERING, POWER ABS BRAKES, CRUISE CONTROL AM/FM RADIO & THE 6 DISC CD THAT HAS 460 WATT POWER.  ALL BLACK LEATHER INTERIOR WITH THE VERY RARE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.

ACCORDING TO THE MACH 1 REGISTERY, THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 9, 652 MACH 1'S BUILT IN 2003, AND 7,182 MACH 1'S BUILT IN 2004.  THE OXFORD WHITE WAS THE REAREST COLOR (814 IN 2003 AND 697 IN 2004).  I BELIEVE THER WERE LEASS THAN 200 OXFORD WHITE 2003 MACH 1'S WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.  THE ORIGINAL STICKER PRICE FOR THIS VEHICLE WAS JUST SLIGHTLY OVER $30,000.

I HAVE FOUND A NEW TOY FOR THE FOUR CAR GARAGE, SO SOMETHING HAS TO GO.  THE BUYER IS RESPONSEABLE FOR ALL SHIPPING COSTS, BUT I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU INSPECT THE CAR IN PERSON.  I HAVE BOUGHT AND SOLD SEVERAL VEHICLES ON E-BAY WITHOUT ANY ISSUES.  THE MACH 1 HAS NO WARRANTY OF ANY KIND AND SOLD AS IS.  I WILL TAKE A BANK CERTIFIED CHECK, BUT THE CAR AND CLEAR TITLE WON'T BE RELEASED UNTIL THE CHECK CLEARS THE BANK.  PLEASE DON'T BID IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE FUNDS TO PAY FOR THE CAR.  I CAN KEEP THE CAR IN THE GARAGE FOR A TIME IF NEEDED.

PLEASE SEND ME AN E-MAIL IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.  I'M LOCATED IN XENIA, OHIO, WHICH IS JUST EAST OF DAYTON.

What car should James Robertson buy to drive his famous 21-mile commute?

Thu, Feb 5 2015

The Internet has been abuzz this week with the story of Detroit resident James Robertson, the 56-year-old factory worker who has walked some 21 miles to work for the last 10 years. The Detroit Free Press brought Robertson's story to the fore, helping an online fundraising campaign to generate more than $275,000 (as of this writing). The original goal was just $5,000, or about enough to replace the used Honda that died on Robertson back in 2005, and left him walking. So, newly flush with funds, what's the perfect car for Robertson to buy? Let's look at the specifics of his situation, and try to pick out the best options. Here's what we know: Robertson's commute is (famously) 21 miles; he lives in downtown Detroit (for now) and seems pretty humble, so something very flashy is probably out; former Honda aside, his ties to the city (and statements about being a Ford fan) seem to indicate a Detroit Three company product is best; he's a single guy with a girlfriend; he's got to deal with Michigan weather, and the sometimes fickle snow removal processes in The D. Here are some choices: Ford F-150 Robertson is on record as being a Taurus fan, and after a decade of walking I've no doubt that the big sedan would offer a cozy respite. Still, as a car guy and a student of the industry, I'd have a hard time recommending a sedan so clearly in need of replacement. Especially when The Blue Oval has such great stuff within the rest of its roster. The 2015 F-150 seems almost perfect for Robertson. Opting for either of the new EcoBoost V6 engines should help keep fuel bills in reasonable check, while healthy ride height and four-wheel drive will get him to work on time even during the snowiest of snow days. Better still, with a fat options sheet and car-like ride quality, Robertson can have just about every amenity he might want, in a package that won't disrespect his blue-collar roots. Chevrolet Colorado You guys saw this one coming, right? The smaller footprint of the midsize Chevy pickup, relative to some of the other options here, should be an advantage for urban parking and driving. And again, 4x4 is an option for the nasty weather, the running costs should stay pretty low and there aren't many tech/luxury features that can't be had in-cabin. I'd go ahead and splash out on the Crew Cab bodystyle, too, just in case Robertson feels like starting a carpool.

Ford earnings take a dive on investment, slowing sales; workers get $6,900 in profit sharing

Thu, Jan 29 2015

Ford Motor Company's pre-tax profits for 2014 took a beating, falling to $6.3 billion, a $2.3-billion drop from 2013, while overall revenues fell from $139.4 billion to $135.8 billion. Net income for 2014, meanwhile, plunged 56 percent, from $7.18 billion to $3.19 billion. Yeah, those aren't great numbers. While Ford's figures are largely down across the board, some of the weaker numbers aren't too difficult to explain away. The company launched 24 vehicles across the globe in 2014, including some of its biggest and most important volume models, like the 2015 F-150, as well as iconic offerings like the new Mustang. The result of this is both increased investment as well as a drop in total sales – US market numbers were down 164,000 units compared to 2013. Recall claims and high warranty costs also did a number on the Blue Oval. "2014 was a solid yet challenging year for Ford - with our investments and a record number of new products launched around the world positioning us for strong growth this year and beyond," Ford CEO Mark Fields said in a statement. Ford's 50,180 UAW workers in the United States will receive profit-sharing checks of $6,900. In some markets, Ford's fortunes were impacted by outside factors. Europe, for example, recorded more sales (up 70,000 units) and higher revenues (up $2.2 billion), but still reported a $443-million pre-tax loss. Blame was placed on the crumbling Russian economy, which has suffered from sanctions and slumping oil prices. Despite its troubles last year, the company still seems bullish on 2015. Ford's pre-tax outlook remains unchanged, as the company expects to make anywhere from $8.5 to $9.5 billion on the back of higher revenue from the company's automotive operations. We expect strong growth and improved financial performance in 2015 driven by our investments in new products and capacity," Ford CFO Bob Shanks said of the company's future.

Ford cleans up painting process with cameras

Thu, 22 Aug 2013

Knowing how the bacon gets made rarely entices us and, in the same vein, the same usually goes for knowing about how new cars get painted. But in both instances, however, quality - or a lack thereof - is instantly obvious. In terms of the latter, Ford is showing off its new paint quality process with 3D Dirt Detection Technology to find imperfections in vehicle paint more easily and more quickly.
This process - being performed on the F-150 SVT Raptor above - uses 16 computer-controlled cameras to create a three-dimensional model (inset) of the vehicle to detect flaws in the paint including dirt particles, which can then be buffed out manually. Ford says this new technology cuts down on time spent looking for paint flaws and gives workers more time to correct those that are discovered.
Currently, Ford only uses its 3D Dirt Detection Technology system at three factories (the Dearborn, MI facility, along with those in Louisville, Kentucky and Valencia, Spain), but it will soon spread to five more plants in North America. Ford has released a video and press release for this innovative and unexpectedly interesting process, both of which are posted below.
