1984 Mustang LX 3.8 V6 convertible, EXCELLENT RUNNER!!! This was my project car since 2008 and it's time to move on to the next project. It has great running V6, recent paint (garage kept, never even waxed since paint) new Pirelli touring tires, recent top (no rips, tears, discoloration, with glass back window). 1989 grey GT seats with working power lumbar, working power windows, door locks, cruise control, console info center. Chrome valve covers, chrome air cleaner, new coil over rear shocks, single exhause with high flow cat and flowmaster muffler (nice quiet burble at idle).
Repro dash pad, console armrest. Working FACTORY am-fm stereo with factory optional "premium sound" amp, and new speakers. New quarter window seals, new dew wipes ("door window "fuzzies") Trunk, quarters, doors, fenders absolutely rust free. Small rust spot undfer drivers foot was repaired before new rugs were installed. Has new emblems, including modern Ford part V-6 emblems on hood scoop. Tilt wheel, cruise control work!
Correct factory part GT hood scoop installed in perfect factory mounting spots. Dealer installed trunk luggage rack with real wood strips (were sanded, stained and spar varnished). New battery (last month), new starter solenoid, all new (recent) hoses, belts etc. Brakes excellent. Runs cool with excellent oil pressure. Tons more stuff I've forgotten, but this car was done right.
A couple points: the non working AC was pulled when I installed a new heater core. I still have compressor etc, if you want it. Same with smog pump. Belts are the same; billet pulleys were installed. If the motor sits for a few days it taps for a FEW SECONDS until oil pressure comes up, then NO NOISE AT ALL after that. Note: there is some small rust directly below the brake fluid distribution fitting; however it's just sheet metal and I was assured by a Mustang specialist that it was no big deal; however it has been taken into account in the asking price. THIS IS A 29 year old car, so of course it has some quirks, but it's nice, driveable RIGHT NOW and just in time for summer, too! Clear NJ title in my name.
In case you're wondering also, I live 10 miles from the coast, we had NO WATER from Sandy (though we lost a tree in front of the house). I am sort of torn over selling this but I have a new project and need the garage space! Set of factory manuals and all the '84 spare parts I can find in my shed come with the car if you want them.

Ford readying Ranger-based Everest SUV?
Fri, 21 Feb 2014Way back in August, we showed you a Ford concept for the Australian market called the Everest. Now, we can show you that work on the new Ranger-based SUV is well under way.
At this stage, it's still quite clearly a mule (note the misalignment of the front and rear doors), wearing the Ranger's front end and the rump of Ford's overseas Territory crossover. The wheelbase is shorter than a Ranger, according to our spy photographers, which strikes us as somewhat odd for a more passenger-oriented vehicle. Disc brakes should be fitted at all four corners, while the new SUV, which will almost certainly wear the Everest name, should sport a new rear suspension.
In terms of looks, we're expecting the Everest Concept to inform the appearance of the production model. Naturally, there will also be some interior tweaks, particularly around the dashboard, which is covered in these photos.
Ford's J Mays feels vindicated by Fusion reception
Tue, 25 Sep 2012It's hard to think back now, but the same man overseeing the design of the 2013 Ford Fusion also presided over a rather lackluster period in Ford design, highlighted by vehicles like the Five Hundred and Freestyle. With the redesigned Fusion receiving high praise, J Mays tells Automotive News that he feels vindicated from criticisms suggesting he's not a daring enough designer.
When Mays took over as lead of design in 1997, he admits to having quite an ego ("My head would barely fit through the door some days. I've long since gotten over myself") and the workload to match. With the Blue Oval's portfolio full of premium brands like Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo at that point, along with the bread-and-butter Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models, Mays certainly had quite the challenge.
It was in the mid-2000s that Mays took over just the premium brands, and took on the new title of Chief Creative Officer. At the time, Mays endured some criticism for looking backwards to retro styling, rather than setting a new standard for American car design - criticism that Mays says he is free from with the all-new Fusion.
Weekly Recap: Marchionne's Manifesto again calls for industry consolidation
Sat, May 2 2015Sergio Marchionne isn't taking no for an answer. Despite public rebuffs from General Motors and Ford, the leader of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles continues to push for consolidation within the auto industry. His latest assertion came Wednesday when he said a combination of FCA with another automaker could net savings of $5 billion or more annually. No, this isn't about selling his company, he claimed, it's about cutting costs. Put simply, the auto industry wastes money, Marchionne said during FCA's earnings conference call. Companies invest billions to develop basic components that all cars use, but many consumers don't care how they work or recognize the differences. "About half of this is really relevant in terms of positioning the car in the marketplace," he said. "The other half, in our view, is stuff which is neither visible to the consumer nor is it relevant to the consumer." In 2014, top automakers spent more than $100 million on product development, FCA estimated. Marchionne said consolidation could save up to $1 billion on powertrains alone, noting that almost every automaker offers four- and six-cylinder engines. Not everyone has to make their own, he contended. "The consumer could not give a flying leap whose engines we are using because they are irrelevant to the buying decision." That's pretty provocative for enthusiasts, but less so for average consumers. Still, there are major differences in power and efficiency ratings, even among similar engines. Skeptics could argue consolidation would also weaken competition and reduce choices for car buyers. Marchionne stressed his presentation, curiously entitled Confessions of a Capital Junkie, wouldn't require closing factories or dealerships. It's not his final "big deal" as CEO, intent to sell FCA, or a way to elevate his company up the automotive food chain. He claims he wants to fundamentally change the industry and its habit for burning cash. "The horrible part about this, and the thing that I find most offensive, is that the capital consumption rate is duplicative," he said. "It doesn't deliver real value to the consumer and it is in its purest form, economic waste."
