1965 2+2 Fastback 289 C-code 3 Speed A/c Console S/s-wheels Restoration Project on 2040-cars
Hudson, New York, United States
Vehicle Title:Salvage
Year: 1965
Make: Ford
Drive Type: 3 Speed
Model: Mustang
Mileage: 121,863
Trim: Fastback 2+2
The former owner of this 1965 2+2 fastback had intended on restoring it. He finely came to the conclusion that it will not happen. He sold the car to me with the understanding that I would be reselling it to someone who would want to restore it. The car has been outside in the elements for many years. I removed the front brake shoes and rear brake drums so the car could be rolled.
The drivers door has been change at some point and the original door tag is gone. The following is what I could find: 5: 1965 Assembly Code: "F" Dearborn, Michigan Body Code: "09" Fastback 2+2 Engine Code: "C" 289 2v Sequential Unit Number: 362312 Date: Estimated to be built mid December 1964 Exterior Color: Midnight or Twilight Turquoise Interior Color: "D6" White With Black Trim Axle: Tag is missing, but ratio seems to be 2.80-Open Transmission: ID Tag Code "HEH-BK"-- 3 Speed **Additional options include: A/C, Console, Styled Steel Wheels and Visibility Group. The motor has an ID tag on the intake with a 1967 date so I believe the motor is not original. The motor is not set, but must have some rust on the top of some of the cylinders as I can turn the motor over by hand about 180 degrees. The engine is missing the a/c pump & brackets and the carburetor is frozen. The front frame rails will need to be repaired from the shock towers forward which includes the strut rod supports. The front rails also need repair at the joint where the rail meets the floor. The top of the engine bay looks very good. The battery tray area needs a repair. The drivers shock tower has some rot through at the very bottom. The floors were poorly replace once and have rusted out again. I am sure the cowl is rotted out too. The floor under the rear seat is rusted and will need to be repaired. The rear frame rails have rusted through at the torque boxes and at the front leaf spring eyes. The trunk floors are rusted and the rear frame rails will need new rear extensions. There is rust in the door jams in the latch catch pin panel. There is also some rust through at the front base of the drip rail on the passengers side. With all of the replacement sheet metal available now it may be quicker and safer to replace entire sections of the frames and floors. The interior needs to be completely redone, but is mostly complete. The front seats, rear seat bottom and door panels do not appear to be the originals to the car. The dash was cut for an aftermarket radio-am/fm/8 track. The exterior will need a hood, trunk lid, fenders, doors, quarters and valances. The roof skin and taillight panel may be save-able, but they are both questionable. The glass is all intact, but the windshield will need to be replaced. The stainless trim is all intact, but has a fair amount of dings in the rear moldings. This car looks to have been last registered in 1983 and it was not by the former owner. There is no title or registration with this car. Ebay requires me to list the type of title that accompanies this car so I listed it as salvage. Some states only require a bill of sale to register a car of this age while others require a registration or title. I will provide a bill of sale only with the sale of this car. You will be responsible for any other paper work that is needed to register this car in your state. This car is being sold as is where is with no warranty expressed or implied. A $500.00 deposit must be received within 48 hours from end of sale or I reserve the right to sell to another bidder or re-list it. The Balance must be paid within 7 days in the form of a cashier's check or cash. Checks will have to clear my bank before the car will be released-NO EXCEPTIONS. The sale is final and is not open to negotiations after the sale. I can store the car for up to 30 days after the sale while transportation is arranged. I have given a fair and honest description of the car, but my opinions of condition may vary from someone else's. Please look at all of the pictures carefully and ask questions if you need more information. The car can be viewed by appointment only and I will not discuss a cash sale. I will not disclose the reserve and I will NOT end the auction early for a cash offer. This keeps the auction real and open to all. Thanks Ken |

Autoblog editors choose their favorite racecars of all time
Thu, Feb 26 2015If you like cars, there is a good chance that you like racecars. There's something about the science and the art of going faster, of competition, of achievement, that accelerates the hearts of enthusiasts. It doesn't matter the series, the team or the manufacturer – there's something about racing that stirs emotions and lifts spirits. It's that way with many of you, and it's that way with our editors. With that in mind, we offer a list of our favorite racecars of all time. Of course, we'd like to hear some of yours in the comment section below. 1970 Porsche 917 Compared to some of the obscure choices by my colleagues, I feel like the Porsche 917 is almost so obvious a pick as to not be worth mentioning. Still, when coming up with my answer, my mind invariably went back to this classic racer – specifically in its blue-and-orange Gulf livery – while watching Le Mans on DVD and later Blu Ray with my dad. Long, low and curvaceous, few vehicles have ever looked sexier lapping a track than the 917. More than just a pretty face, this beauty had speed, too, thanks to several tunes of flat-12 engines over the course of its racing life. In the early '70s, Porsche was a dominant force throughout sports-car competition, and the 917 (shown above at the 1970 24 Hours of Daytona) was the tip of that spear, including back-to-back victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Largely without dialogue or really much of a traditional plot, Le Mans is like a tone poem of racing goodness. While the 917's importance to motorsports history is undoubtedly fascinating, it's still this cinematic depiction of the Porsche racer that draws me in most, especially with the volume cranked. – Chris Bruce Associate Editor 1964 Mini Cooper S How could everyone not be selecting the 1964 Mini Cooper S piloted by Paddy Hopkirk and Henry Liddon? That car, 33 EJB, took the first of British Motor Corporation's four Monte Carlo Rally wins (it should have been five, but French judges got the British Minis [and Fords] disqualified on a technicality regarding headlights... which its own car, the winning DS, was also in violation of). The tiny red car and its white roof beat out Ford Falcons, Mercedes-Benz 300SEs and scores of Volvos, Volkswagens and Saabs. This, along with the several years of dominance that followed, cemented the idea that not only could the tiny, two-tone Mini be a real performance vehicle, but that family-friendly city cars in general could be fun.
The history and future of the Ford Bronco
Tue, 17 Jun 2014
Some have suggested that the Bronco's demise was hastened by the fallout from the O.J. trial.
Twenty years ago today, ex-NFL linebacker Al "A.C." Cowlings drove his friend and onetime running back Orenthal James "O.J." Simpson on a parade lap of the Los Angeles highway system and onto an ignoble page of the history books. If you're in your late 20s or older, or a fastidious young student of 1990s American history, you're absolutely aware that Al and O.J.'s steed for the 'chase' was a white Ford Bronco. The white Ford Bronco, even.
Ford shutters Genk assembly plant in Belgium
Tue, Dec 23 2014Ford has become the latest automaker to close one of its European assembly plants. The facility in question is located in the Belgian city of Genk and has been in operation since the early '60s when it started building the Taunus, Ford's first mass-produced, front-drive model. As part of the plan first announced over two years ago, the Genk Body & Assembly Plant is now closing its doors after half a century in the business and over fourteen million vehicles built. Although the plant itself employed some 5,000 workers, once you take into account the suppliers built up around the plant, the overall impact on employment in the area edges closer to 12,000. Genk Body & Assembly had until recently been tasked with producing the Mondeo sedan (which in its current iteration we know as the Fusion) as well as the S-Max and Galaxy minivans. Production of the Mondeo shifted in 2013 to the company's plant in Valencia, Spain, which also handles the Kuga crossover and Transit Connect cargo van, and will soon take over the minivans from Genk as well. The move follows a similar decision undertaken by General Motors to close the Opelwerk plant in Bochum, Germany. It also reflects a scaling down of automobile production in Belgium specifically: although Audi still manufacturers in Brussels and and Volvo in Ghent, Opel closed its plant in Antwerp in 2000 and Renault ceased production in Vilvoorde back in '97. However Ford still maintains its famous proving ground half an hour to the north in Lommel, Belgium.
