Sharp 1914 Model T Ford Touring Car- A Century Old! on 2040-cars
Oswego, Illinois, United States
Up for auction is a super sharp 1914 Model T Ford Touring car. 1914 was the first year of the complete moving assembly used by Ford Motor Company. This car was ground off restored in the late 80s or early 90s and a rebuilt 1916 engine was installed at that time. The body is glass smooth and laser straight. There are a few crackling areas in the paint but not many- a very good driver quality paint job. Good solid top with diamond seated upholstery with normal wear from usage. The car starts, stops and drives like a stock Model T should. New safety glass in the windshield. Cotton bands in the trans work well- all fluids have been changed and the entire rear axle was recently overhauled with new bronze thrust washers and new lined brakes. Good solid tight wooden wheels, good tires and tubes, solid running gear with a reinforced above axle wishbone for safety. Good sparking coils and all new hoses and recently cleaned original working radiator. I added a new KW timer for superior spark and then cleaned and rebuilt the carburetor. Has the rarer Wilmo combined exhaust and intake manifold for heated air intake. I can pull twice on the crank choked and either get a free-start or just 1-2 pulls more on the crank and she’ll kick over with battery assist. No smoke nor knock in the motor.
I enjoy this car but am looking to get something a little later. Aluminum hood, working bulb brass Rubes horn, and all matching tail, side-lamps and headlamps make this a really nice complete 1914 car to be proud of. Car comes with an original running board tool box, spare battery for the coils and an original acetylene generator mounted on the running boards. From what I can tell- all correct running gear except for the front spring- that's a later taper style, rear spring is the true 1914 rounded style. Winner to pay a non-refundable $500 due at auction close through PayPal and balance is due upon pick-up of car. A bank wire transfer is safest for both parties, and is really preferred, although cash will work as well. If the winner wants to do PayPal we’ll need to chat about that option. Please ask any and all questions ahead of time; I do not have the ability to deliver, sorry. I have a clean title in my name matching the engine number. Thanks for looking! |

Jay Leno takes a Surfin' Safari in a 1937 Ford Woodie Restomod
Tue, 21 Oct 2014Woodie wagons were a major part of surfing culture in the 1960s, offering coastal style and a ton of room, and they even earned a mention in the Beach Boys' classic song Surfin' Safari. This week, Jay Leno's Garage takes a look at two modern, restomodded examples of these style icons.
Unlike a lot of restomods, builder Scott Bonowski keeps these wagons looking almost completely stock on the outside, and all of the upgrades are hidden underneath the timber. You can't tell by looking at it, but the '37 Woodie (pictured above) has independent front and rear suspension, disc brakes and a Ford 5.0-liter V8 under the hood.
Beyond the mechanical aspect, the craftsmanship into the wood is astounding. Bonowski claims there are between 30 and 50 coats of varnish on this wagon. It makes these woodies as much of a piece of fine furniture as a vehicle to drive.
Ford recalls Five Hundred, Mercury Montego sedans over fuel tank woes
Mon, 18 Jul 2011Ford has announced through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is recalling nearly 3,000 examples of its Five Hundred and Mercury Montego (pictured) sedans from the 2007 model year.
The action, which affects 2,945 vehicles, is due to potentially defective welds between the filler neck and the fuel tank, a condition that could result in a fuel leak or the smell of gasoline reaching the occupants. In the worst-case scenario, a leak could cause a fire. Cars with the affected fuel tank problem could see an illuminated dashboard warning light as a result of the evaporative emissions leak being detected.
Ford will inspect and replace the fuel tank at no cost to owners (those who have already had the procedure done at-cost can apply for reimbursement), and the Dearborn automaker will begin notifying Five Hundred and Montego owners beginning August 15. Check out the official NHTSA press release after the jump for further details.
Ford recalls over 680,000 Ford Fusions, Mondeos, and Lincoln MKZs for seat belt pretensioners
Fri, Dec 2 2016Update: We spoke with a Ford representative who said that owners will be notified by mail during the week of January 16 . Dealers will also have the fix available at the same time. Owners can bring in their vehicles to dealers for an evaluation in the mean time. The main text has been updated to reflect this. The Basics: Ford is recalling 680,872 2013-2016 Ford Fusions, 2015-2016 Ford Mondeos, and 2013-2015 Lincoln MKZ s for an issue with front driver-side and passenger-side seat belt pretensioners. The Problem: The seat-belt pretensioners did not have sufficient insulation applied. When the pretensioners are activated, the heat generated can cause the cables connected to the belts to separate, which in turn can prevent the seat belts from effectively restraining the occupant. This can lead to injuries. Injuries/Deaths: Ford reports two accidents and two injuries have occurred that are related to this recall. The fix: A dealer technician will inject an insulation coating around the pretensioner. This should effectively keep the heat away from the cables, ensuring the seat belt will properly restrain the user in a collision. If you own one: Affected owners will be notified by mail on the week of January 16. Dealers will have the fix available that week, and owners will be able to bring in their vehicles for the fix to be implemented free of charge. Related Video:
