This is the classic ultimate barn find. A very well built '23 T Bucket from the early 70's judging by the build. Must have been a very high dollar car in it's day. I actually purchased it just for the engine that I am going to run "as is" in my old school gasser. It had a high performance early model 454 in it with real Chevrolet factory 1968 L-88 aluminum heads on it. It now has a very low mileage ( 17,000 miles ), great running, and freshly painted, but basically stock,1982 big block 454 Chevy in it. It is running a great shifting 400 Turbo and single track 12 bolt rear end. It is still faster than you want to go in a car this light. It still lifts the front left tire off of the ground when the pedal is hit hard, and absolutely fries the right rear tire. It has the old school Buick finned aluminum brake drums on all 4 corners. Stops great. Old style 4 link rear end suspension with coil springs and chrome shocks. Front suspension is old school also. Drives, stops, and steers great. The body must have been a high dollar one also. Very thick fiberglass with working passenger door. No stress cracks anywhere. The paint is in awesome shape too. It definitely withstood the test of time with very little, if any, wear and chips. The frame is even pin stripped underneath the body. The interior also must have been very expensive in it's day, but it is showing signs of wear and repair. All gauges work including the speedometer and odometer. I was told the 10,000 miles it shows is actual mileage. From the car's overall condition, I'd say it is accurate. Old school headlights. '32 Ford steel grille shell cut down to fit. Vintage windshield frame. The shifter is the only item that I think was updated until I switched engines around. The steering column could use one of those modern day braces, but it never had one before and lived thru it. The brake pedal could also use a return spring, but never had one of those either. Car runs very cool with an electric fan. The cloth top and frame is in very good shape, but it looks much cooler with the top removed. The tires are old bias ply wide white walls. Decent tread, but I would replace them before I took any long trips, because I have no idea how old they are. They are not all cracked up though.

All in all, this is a very cool old vintage hot rod T Bucket that looks great just the way it is, and it still handles great too.

You will be a hit at all of the shows because it is so different than the other more modern T's that you see.

Jay Leno's Garage goes eco with Ricardo HyBoost

Mon, 17 Mar 2014

"Now before you turn away, this is not another boring hybrid car thing..." Despite the slightly defensive introduction from Jay, the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage is actually pretty fascinating. The Ricardo HyBoost is a 2009 Ford Focus that has had a 1.1-liter engine swapped in for the stock 2.0-liter four. That might not get you performance enthusiasts out there fired up, until, that is, you hear that the 1.1L is also fed by both a turbocharger and an electrically driven supercharger for an instant-on "torque-fill" effect. Sounds about right, considering that Ricardo engineering is part of the genius behind the McLaren P1.
Perhaps most exciting of all, the Ricardo folks say that the package should run somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,100. A sort of performance-hybrid that makes sense for the frugal driver and the enthusiast one, then. There's a lot more to the HyBoost, all of which can be seen in the video below.

Ex-GM VP LaNeve takes over Lincoln ad agency

Wed, 10 Apr 2013

Those of you that caught yesterday's op-ed about Lincoln will have heard already, but Mark LaNeve has taken the helm at Team Detroit. Once the North American vice president of sales, service and marketing for General Motors, LaNeve will now head up the agency that handles all of Ford advertising. LaNeve will also run the account for Lincoln. While at GM from 2001 to 2009, the exec oversaw ad campaigns like Cadillac's Breakthrough and sales initiatives like "Employee Pricing for Everyone."
He left in 2009 to join Allstate as chief marketing officer, oversaw the creation of the Mayhem ad spots and was moved into the role of VP of agency operations overseeing Allstate's 10,000 agents. He resigned from the insurer in February 2012 for personal reasons and joined Team Detroit in August 2012 as chief operating officer, in charge of satellite offices in New York and internationally. He replaces ex-CEO Cameron McNaughton, and will continue to hold the title of COO.
Lincoln is trying to get its 2013 back to rights after putting big dollar commercials for the 2013 MKZ on television then having production glitches preventing cars from getting to dealerships. With rumors of a relaunch in the works, it's no surprise LaNeve has been given the reins - and from here it looks like the brand is desperate for the kind of magic he's proved he can marshal. Perhaps he can start by calling a mulligan on the renaming exercise that gave us the hoary "Lincoln Motor Company" and go back to oh, say, "Lincoln." Then he can ask the product folks to get to work on the MKC concept...
