When it comes to Model T’s, 99% of those produced were right off the production line.  Everything was standard, even the color (you could have any color as long as it was black).  For those very few Model T’s that were not production cars, most collectors will agree that the 1% custom bodied Model T’s are the most desirable for collecting.

The early Model T town cars that were chauffeur driven are as rare as hen’s teeth.  Probably the next rarest type of Model T would be a Depot Hack.  These were bodied by many different body builders but they all had the same purpose and that was to haul plenty of people and luggage from the ranch or farm home into town and very often to the train station, back then called the depot.

Today Depot Hack’s are highly desirable and sought after by Model T collectors that want something more unusual then a touring car or a two or four door sedan.  These Depot Hacks are also sought after by collectors who like to load up the kids and grandkids and take them on a most unusual ride in a Model T.  There are some collectors who like to have the Model T in their garage just to be able to go out and take a look and feel the pride of ownership.  The really good news about a Model T Depot Hack, even though it is custom bodied and extremely rare and a lot of fun, the prices are relatively very, very cheap in this car collector market.

The car that you see before you was purchased by a gentleman who bought this vehicle in the early 1970s purchased it from the man who had bought it in 1934.   In the early 1970s the car was restored and the original body was discarded and was rebodied into this fabulous Depot Hack and used extensively during the 1970s and the 1980s for parades and rally’s.  The Depot Hack has been very well maintained over the years and was always stored inside.  Mileage is unknown.

As you can see from the many tour badges and parade photos it was driven all over.  Note the photo of the eight men in the Depot Hack – you can bring all your friends along for the fun!  The gentleman who restored this vehicle took great pride in this beauty and the care it has received shows in the very fine condition it is still in today.

Several years ago when the gentleman who restored this car passed away, he left the car to his very young nephew.   Over the years the car has been well maintained and stored with a very good friend who has taken great care to exercise it and keep it in great running condition.  Recently he installed a fresh battery.

We at MissChiTown love the Ford green paint with the black bumpers that show off the beauty of the wood perfectly!  A vinyl top covers the wood top.   The wood seats have black cushions.  It is believed that the original 4 cylinder engine is in this Depot Hack for sale.   The manual transmission is operated by three pedals on the floor, (the care taker of this vehicle said it was like an early type of automatic transmission).   These old Model T’s are well known for their dependability and this one still is going strong.  The caretaker says this Depot Hack is stored inside except when it taken out to be exercised to keep it in great running condition.

We love the way the tailgate provides access to transport the passenger’s luggage but as you can see from one parade picture it has also been utilized to transport extra passengers.  There is a visor over the windshield.  The caretaker says it has a crank start but he prefers the convenience of the electric start.  The electric start may have been an upgrade by the gentleman who restored it.

The nephew who is sadly selling this vehicle hopes that the new owner will enjoy it and have fun taking it on rally’s and will be proud to show it off in parades as his uncle did over the years.

The seller has placed a modest reserve on this vehicle so everybody can bid!  If you have any questions on this great Model T give us a call at 847-774-4857.

Fields 'required' to use private aircraft, could make $5.25M as Ford CEO this year

Thu, 03 Jul 2014

Mark Fields' travels on the friendly skies will soon be a relatively personal affair, as the new CEO at Ford will be required to resume air travel via the company's private planes. Fields caught plenty of flak in 2007 for flying on the company's dime to visit his family in Florida. He's since flown commercial.
According to Ford spokesperson Susan Krusel, who spoke to Bloomberg, Fields (pictured above right, with Bill Ford, Jr. at center and Alan Mulally at left) will switch to private travel "for safety and to maximize his availability for company business." In addition to his new travel arrangements, the 53-year-old exec's salary and bonuses have been revealed.
Regulatory filings by Ford revealed that Fields, whose first day in the big chair was July 1, will receive a base salary this year of $1.25 million and he'll be eligible for $3.5 million in bonuses, both of which are lower than Alan Mulally's $2 million salary and $5.88 million in bonuses received last year. That's also lower than General Motors CEO Mary Barra's alleged $1.6-million salary and considerably less than Sergio Marchionne's $3.19-million fixed salary from Fiat. Despite falling short of other CEOs, Fields' new pay still represents a 33-percent increase over his pay as Chief Operating Officer.

Ford F-150 SVT Raptor sales jumping to new heights

Thu, 12 Sep 2013

Ford can't seem to build F-150 SVT Raptors fast enough. The off-road-ready trucks have been one of the Blue Oval's most reliable sellers, with record sales in eight of the last 10 months and a 14-percent jump in 2013. That's impressive enough, considering that the least expensive Raptor starts at $44,000. Factor in the modded F-150's fuel economy (it's rated at 11 miles per gallon in the city and 16 on the highway) and a national average gas price, as of this writing, of $3.55 per gallon, and its success is as unlikely as Ford's home team, the Detroit Lions, winning the Super Bowl this year (sorry, Lions fans, we're just quoting the experts in Vegas...).
Yet for some reason, Raptors spend an average of just 15 days on dealer lots before being snapped up, which is a quarter of the 60-day industry average. According to Ford's truck group marketing manager, Doug Scott, it's capability that keeps the Raptor selling strong. "What's helping drive Raptor sales is that Raptor delivers unmatched off-road performance to our customers. Raptor is also proof of our commitment to offer a truck for every customer and continuously improving them to meet our customers' evolving needs."
To address the strong demand for Raptors, Ford will bump production from three trucks per hour to five. Not much, we agree. But building an extra 48 trucks per day, at most, seems like a prudent way of addressing demand without oversaturating what is ultimately a niche market. Check out the press release below for more.

Why the 2015 Detroit Auto Show will be the best since The Crisis

Tue, Dec 30 2014

The Detroit Auto Show clearly has its swagger back, and the 2015 edition will be a veritable feast for the enthusiast senses. We're talking serious performance, and it will be exhibited in a variety of forms. Sports cars. Supercars. Muscle-bound luxury cars. They're all set for splashy debuts in January in the Motor City. It's another signpost that companies have recovered from the global economic crisis that gripped the industry from 2008-09. For a while, automakers played it safe at Detroit and other shows. Environmentally friendly cars were important, especially for General Motors and Chrysler that were living on loans from Uncle Sam. Ford, Toyota and other companies generally focused on their best-selling or core models. With a few notable exceptions, recent auto shows have been a bit more buttoned-down than in the past. Boring probably isn't the right word, but austerity has been reality. That's changing. Car companies are making money. Sales are up. Aside from the many nagging recalls – and they are notable – the industry now has the time and energy to make performance cars a priority. That will be offered in hard evidence in Detroit. A year from now when we look back at this auto show, we'll sum it up with one word: Horsepower. But make no mistake, this isn't frivolous. Sports and luxury cars are expensive. They're profitable. They boost images and highlight strengths. With that in mind, here are five significant performance-oriented reveals to watch for when the show kicks off in less than two weeks. 2016 Acura NSX Acura's reborn NSX is a strong bet to earn plenty of votes for our Editors' Choice awards. It's one of the most anticipated – and strung-out – reveals of the year. Think back: we actually saw an NSX concept at the 2012 Detroit show, and Acura has spent the last three years teasing the car in a variety of ways. The slow burn, however, means we know a lot about the NSX. It's will use a mid-mounted twin-turbo hybrid powertrain and run with all-wheel drive. It will also wear an innovative zirconium e-coat paint, a new paint process that Honda says is more environmentally friendly. Honda has also said it will build the new NSX in Ohio, where a large part of the car's development work has been done. The original NSX was produced from 1990-2005 and helped establish Acura's performance credentials in the United States. It was a landmark car and a shot across the bow of Ferrari, Lamborghini and others.
