1930 Ford Model A 2 door hot rod. This is a factory steel body on what looks to be a aftermarket frame assy. It has a front I beam with a transverse leaf spring with aluminum shocks and the rear is ladder bar with coil-overs. It has a Chevy 350 motor with AFR heads and a th350 transmission and a Continental converter. Motor starts right up and runs good, it has a big Edelbrock single plane manifold with a Holley carb. probably makes about 400HP. Drivetrain has about 10k miles on it The rear end is a ford 8" with posi. Front disc and rear drum with a parking brake. The wheels are torque thrusts. Tires are good. It has headers with side pipes. It has a factory style radiator with a electric fan. The interior has a roll bar in it that is tucked up to the roof with lots of head room. There is a diagonal bar for the roll bar that is removable that is not in the pictures. Has 2 bucket seats and a complete compliment of gauges inside. Radio with a CD player and power antenna.  Car is a little loud to listen to the radio.  It still has the pop out window in the front. Brake master is mounted under the floor and the car was recently rewired. The color is a charcoal grey and has some dark purple pin stripping. There is also engine side covers that come with it. Side covers are seen in one picture and have a cut out for the exhaust in them. The covers are a little scratched up from sitting on a shelf and one has a good sized chip in the paint. I never run them on the car.  Car is a driver and has a couple of chips and scratches on it along with a few bubbles in the paint. Rear window does not move, but both side window work and are manual crank.  There are more picture available, just email any requests. Has current tags and is registered as a 1930 ford. Watch these videos of an NHRA racer's bodywork blowing off into a crowd

Tue, 23 Apr 2013

Just a few months ago, fan safety at racetracks was a hot topic following the last-lap NASCAR Nationwide Series crash at Daytona that sent large pieces of racecars into the grandstands injuring 33 fans. Now, a freak incident at a National Hot Rod Association event resulted in a drag racer's bodywork flying into the crowd at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals in Charlotte over the weekend. The carbon-fiber body of Robert Hight's Ford Mustang funny car blew off toward the end of a run when his engine exploded, but fortunately, the two fans evaluated after the incident were later released without serious injury.
As you can see in the image above, the body flew high into the air before landing on a walkway in front of the grandstands, a bit of happenstance that likely gave most fans enough time and space to move out of the way. Scroll down to watch a couple of videos showing what happened, including one from a fan's perspective that also reveals what appears to be part of the body's metal bracing landing dangerously close to the crowd.

Martini Mustang is a 'what if moment' gone right

Wed, 23 Oct 2013

Feast your eyes on a masterpiece. This is Steve Strope's Ford Mustang in the classic fastback bodystyle, and as you'll notice, it sports the signature colors of Martini Racing, a livery that's as legendary as any Gulf Racing-styled car. But the red, white and blues of the Martini stripe down this Mustang's middle tell only a very small part of the story, in the latest video from Petrolicious.
What would you guess is under the hood? A 289-cubic-inch V8? Maybe a 302, or some absurd Ford crate engine? Maybe Strope went all Tokyo Drift - he's actually responsible for the "Hammer" Plymouth Satellite driven by Vin Diesel at the end of the movie - and found an RB26DETT to drop into the pony car? You'd be wrong on all counts.
This mad, mad man somehow finagled a Ford-Lotus engine from a 1966 Indianapolis 500 car into the Mustang's engine bay. Yes, a Mustang with an engine designed for a 160-mile-per-hour, open-wheel racecar. That's like someone in 40 years dropping McLaren's 2.4-liter V8 from the MP4-28 into a Scion FR-S. It'd just make a monster.

Lincoln recycling tree fibers into new MKX armrest

Thu, Feb 27 2014

Want to hug a tree, or at least a really small part of one. Then set your arm down on one of those armrests in the 2014 Lincoln MKX crossover. The US automaker is working with Weyerhaeuser and Johnson Controls on a tree-based, cellulose-reinforced polypropylene material used in the component that connects the armrest to the floor console, Wards Auto says. With properties similar to plastic, the tree-based material replaces fiberglass and is about six percent lighter. No big deal for now, but if the material starts getting used for things like battery trays and interior storage covers, that loss in weight may eventually start adding up enough to boost fuel economy a bit, providing a green double bonus. Lincoln parent Ford, which isn't saying how much more (or less?) it costs to use the new material, established its Biomaterials and Plastics Research team in 2001. In 2007, the company began using soy-based foam in car seats used for models such as the Lincoln Navigator and Ford Mustang and has since broadened biomaterials use to components like floormats and cupholder inserts. Ford also used recycled plastic bottles from the 2012 North America International Auto Show for seats in the Focus Electric.
