SELLER REMARKS

If you're over about five-feet, ten-inches tall, a Model A pickup is probably not for you, given the space limitations inside the stock cab. However, you're in luck because this amazing Model A crew cab pickup neatly solves the problem for you. With four doors and room for the whole family, it's a fantastic fantasy creation that stops traffic yet remains eminently practical.



The body is fiberglass and this truck in particular was built to show off the fiberglass company's handiwork with the crew cab body. It keeps the original Model A proportions and simply extends them to their logical 4-door conclusion, and with the extended wheelbase, stubby bed, and Model A fenders, there's simply no mistaking it. Fit and finish are excellent, as you'd expect from a show/demonstrator vehicle designed to sell body kits, and they pulled out all the stops to make all four steel-framed doors fit as well as humanly possible. The PPG Midnight Sapphire paint is vivid but not overwhelming, letting the unique body speak for itself, but as you look it over, you'll find that this is a show-quality paint job. There are a lot of little detail tweaks, too, from the dropped headlight bar to the third brake light atop the cab to the twin exhaust stacks running up the side of the cab. The bed is finished in durable spray-in bedliner material, so you can even put it to work, and it's set up to haul a trailer so just imagine showing up with this as your tow rig! Too cool.



The interior is neatly trimmed in two-tone gray leather, featuring buckets from a Blazer and a custom rear bench that really allows comfortably 5-passenger touring. The whole passenger compartment is reinforced with a steel safety cage, so you can forget about this being some flimsy fiberglass knock-off. The doors close with a solid thunk and stay latched without squeaks or rattles. All the comfort features you'd demand in your new dually are here, including Vintage Air HVAC, power windows, cruise control, a tilt wheel, remote openers for all four doors, and two auxiliary power points in the gorgeous wood dash. Vintage VDO gauges keep an eye on the engine's vitals and a custom overhead console houses a Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo head unit. And again, as a demonstrator vehicle, this one is really, really nice inside.



Power comes from a bulletproof Corvette LT1 V8 whose 300 horsepower is plenty to move the pickup with real authority. Barking through those twin pipes it's hardly subtle, but few engines have proven themselves in hot rods more often than the LT1. Custom headers feed a stainless exhaust system from Stainless Works, and for cruising comfort, there's a GM 4L60E 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission spinning a 9-inch rear with 3.89 gears on a limited slip differential. The frame is custom-built from 2x6 boxed steel for durability, with a Posies dropped front axle and a 4-link with coil-overs out back. Staggered Torque Thrust wheels give it that raked hot rod look, with giant BFG radials out back totally stuffing the fenders.

TERMS OF SALE

 

1. Per the eBay User Agreement, by placing a bid you are entering into a legally binding contract and are committed to purchasing the vehicle described above. The details of this commitment are further outlined in the eBay User Agreement.

2. Vehicle may be sold by Streetside Classic Cars prior to the end of the auction. Streetside Classic Cars reserves the right to end its auctions early or to cancel bids solely at its discretion and shall not be held liable for any such cancellation.

3. The winning bidder is required to contact Streetside Classic Cars within 24 hours after the close of the auction to finalize the details of the transaction.

4. A $1,000 non-refundable deposit is required within 48 hours of the auction's close.  This deposit reserves the vehicle and removes it from the market. Acceptable payment types for deposit are: credit card, wire transfer, cashier's check, and money order.

5. If winning bidder does not contact Streetside Classic Cars and submit deposit within 48 hours of auction close, vehicle may be made available to the next highest bidder or another qualified buyer on a first come, first serve basis.

6. Streetside Classic Cars has represented this vehicle to the best of its ability. Prospective bidders are encouraged to contact us directly to provide additional information or answer any questions.

7. Please be aware that all pre-owned vehicles, regardless of age, mileage, or manufacturer are subject to cosmetic wear and mechanical failure. Streetside Classic Cars encourages bidder to have a personal inspection completed prior to delivery to help ensure your satisfaction. Third party inspections are to take place prior to a vehicles shipment or delivery.

8. All vehicles are sold "AS IS" and with no warranties expressed or implied.

9. Final or winning bid price does not include shipping, tax, title, or registration fees. It is the purchaser's responsibility to provide for any state or local taxes and shipping expenses resulting from the sale.

10. We can assist you in delivery through our network of private and commercial carriers. Most of them can deliver the vehicle to your driveway. We assume no responsibility for damages or delays incurred once a vehicle is in a shipper's custody.

11. Streetside Classic Cars bears no liability and shall be held harmless for any complications, expenses, or damages resulting from a failure to meet these terms as they have been set forth and established herein.

Ward's calls out Ford's EcoBoost engines for their crummy fuel economy

With a name like EcoBoost, one might expect Ford's line of turbocharged engines to be somewhat, um, economical. In other words, replacing displacement with a turbocharger is supposed to deliver better fuel economy. Based on the experience time and time again of multiple Autoblog editors, your author included, this is simply not the case. Now, Ward's is calling out the cruddy efficiency numbers of Ford's EcoBoost line of engines. The column dresses down not just the new 2.7-liter V6 of the 2015 F-150, but also the 2.3-liter of the Mustang, the 1.5-liter from the Fusion and the 3.2-liter PowerStroke diesel found in the Transit, while also explaining why just one Ford engine was named to Ward's 10 Best Engines list. In its testing of all four engines, Ward's editors never came even remotely close to matching the 2.7's claimed 26 miles per gallon (for two-wheel-drive models), with the truck's computer indicating between 17.6 and 19 mpg over a 250-odd-mile run. Calculating the fuel economy manually revealed an even more depressing 15.6 miles per gallon. Criticisms with the 2.3-liter four-cylinder focused on its strange soundtrack, although it was business as usual with the 1.5-liter and 3.2 diesel, with Ward's criticizing the fuel economy of both engines. The 1.5, which Ward's claims is sold as a hybrid alternative, failed to get over 30 miles per gallon, while the five-cylinder turbodiesel's figures couldn't stand up against FCA's 3.0-liter EcoDiesel. The entire column really is worth a read, especially if you were disappointed in Ward's decision to only salute Ford's three-cylinder EcoBoost while shunning the rest of the company's new turbocharged mills.

Ford sticking with manuals for RS models

Traditional stick-shift gearboxes may be losing ground quickly to dual-clutch transmissions, but Ford knows what hot hatch enthusiasts want. That's why it's sticking with manual transmissions on its RS models for the foreseeable future. The Blue Oval automaker caught our attention yesterday when it revealed the new Focus RS, packing an upgraded version of the turbo four from the Mustang, a trick new all-wheel-drive system and an old-school six-speed manual. After speaking to Ford's product chief Raj Nair at the hot hatch's launch, Autocar reports that the six-speed is here to stay. "All our current research says that customers really like these kinds of cars to have a manual gearbox," Nair told the British publication. "We'll keep looking at market trends, and of course we'll give customers what they want, but for now the manual stays." Autocar further suggests that the same principle will apply to any further Rallye Sport models, so if and when a Fiesta RS rolls around, it's likely it will stick with a stick as well. Although the less potent Focus ST is offered in diesel and wagon forms overseas, wherever it's sold and in whatever form, the six-speed stays a constant in that model as well, just as it does in the smaller Fiesta ST. That doesn't mean that other Ford Performance models won't go without a clutch pedal, though. The new GT employs a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and the new F-150 Raptor channels its muscle through a ten-speed automatic. But as far as Ford's hot hatches go, it looks like the manual will remain alive and well.
