SELLER REMARKS |
|
This neat little 1930 Model A Tudor sedan is one of those great old cars that don't ask you to make any sacrifices to enjoy them. With lots of smart upgrades aimed at making it a reliable and fun tour car, it retains all the Model A's charm and simply upgrades all the areas where the A's were a little weak.
The first thing most folks notice on this handsome tudor sedan are the colors, which are a fairly correct representation of Chicle and Copra Drab, correct 1930 Ford colors that are seldom seen today. It's bright, sophisticated, and with contrasting black fenders, very stylish. The restoration is a few years old and given the extensive modifications under the skin, it's safe to say that it's been driven and enjoyed, but overall it has a very pleasant, complete look that works quite well. It's a Deluxe model, which included cowl lamps and dual taillights, but other welcome additions include the etched wind wings, twin side mirrors, and a spare tire cover that gives it an upscale look. The doors fit well and in the interest of keeping everything safe, there's a mesh grille guard up front that's functional as well as stylish. The fenders could probably benefit from a buff, but on the other hand this is a car that you can hit the road without worries, so perhaps it might be best to just leave it as-is. Either way, you won't be disappointed with how it goes down the road.
Inside, the upholstery is pretty correct for 1930, featuring brown mohair on late-model Honda bucket seats that might fool more than a few onlookers. They're a lot more supportive than the original chairs, but the classic patterns are a nice disguise. The familiar controls are all there, augmented by things like turn signals, accessory water temperature and oil pressure gauges, and a 12-volt cooling fan, which is handy since Model As don't have cowl vents. The back seat is spacious and the woodgrained garnish moldings and dashboard surround give the modest Model A an upscale feel. Experts will note that this car has a late '31 round speedometer instrument panel, but at this point, it doesn't really matter given the car's extensive upgrades. There's also a nice-fitting long-grain vinyl roof that seals up well and looks great.
Mechanically, the 200 cubic inch inline-four that made the Model A famous is still in place, albeit in 1932 Model B form, which added a whopping 25% more horsepower (up to 50 from 40). Of course, the multiple upgrades also help with horsepower, but the primary goal was reliability, and with that in mind the engine was treated to pressurized lubrication, a pressurized cooling system, a Weber downdraft carburetor, and a 6-blade cooling fan. It starts with vigor but still has that classic Model A sound, and thanks to a 4-speed synchromesh transmission and the rear end out of a Ford Ranger pickup, it's a capable cruiser at modern highway speeds. The suspension is augmented with juice brakes, a Ford F100 steering box, and modern shocks, with coil-overs out back. 16-inch wheels from a later Ford ride better than the 19-inchers that came on the car and carry bright 6.00-16 Firestone wide whitewall tires.
A classic Model A with its soul intact and just a few upgrades to enhance the driving experience. If that's your kind of fun, this Model A deserves a closer look. Call now!

With 57 vehicles planned for its SEMA display, it comes as little surprise that Ford has plenty of teasers for its show cars. After showing us what it has in store for the Mustang, Fiesta and Focus ST, now we're getting a look at some of the custom creations based on the redesigned 2014 Transit Connect van.
These nine Transit Connects are decked out to various degrees of customization, but our favorite might be the chopped and lowered Transit Connect from Mob Steel (shown above), which has a similar slammed stance that we see on some custom VW Buses. On the opposite extreme, LGE & CTS Motorsports has jacked up a Transit Connect to make a Cross Country cruiser that we wouldn't mind taking on a road trip.
There are seven other teasers from various companies, and you can check them all out in the gallery above or in the press release below. Ford is also promising a tenth Transit Connect for SEMA, so stay tuned for that as well.

As the old saying goes, "There's no replacement for displacement." But these days, many automakers are launching powerful, downsized engines that offer similar or better power output than their predecessors, all while offering improvements in fuel economy and emissions. These days, we're seeing automakers replacing eight-cylinder engines with turbocharged sixes, and the naturally aspirated six-cylinder motors are being phased out in favor of potent turbo fours. But Ford has gone even smaller, offering a three-cylinder, turbocharged engine with one single liter of displacement.
Sure, three-cylinder engines aren't anything new - they've been offered around the globe for ages. But Ford's EcoBoost 1.0L powerplant is perhaps the best application the Autoblog team has tested. Gone are the triple-cylinder complaints of yore - this engine doesn't sound anemic or buzzy, and there's healthy power output on tap. In fact, compared to the 1.6-liter inline-four that Ford also offers in the Fiesta, the 1.0-liter is more powerful, while boasting an impressive 45 miles per gallon on the highway.
This engine has already received numerous accolades, including winning the International Engine of the Year award in 2012, 2013 and 2014. The 1.0L EcoBoost will be available in the refreshed 2015 Ford Focus here in the US.
