 1970 Ford Galaxie 500 Fastback

VIN OE55Y261714

Body 63B

1970 Galaxie 500 2 Door Hard-top, Sportsroof, 390 engine, 2V, C6 trans, factory air, factory AM radio, front and rear bench seats, manual windows, power steering and power brakes with factory front disc.

-It has 79,772 miles on it now. The car started its life in Florida and was brought to Illinois in the 90’s. I purchased it this summer and it is now in Dayton, Ohio. All previous body and mechanical work listed below was done by the previous owner.

-I have all of the interior and exterior trim, except for the carpeting, antenna and the Galaxie 500 emblems that go on the rear quarters. The front bench seats and the dash are still in the car, but the rest was taken out. The seats will need to be re-covered and the dash is cracked in the middle.

-The exterior trim is in pretty good shape and has been polished. The front bumper is in great shape and the rear is in decent shape. Rear bumper needs straightened or replaced.

-The door handles are off the car and are pitted and should be replaced.

-The weather-stripping is in okay shape, interior is in good shape except the floor in the driver’s foot-well is rusting out, new trunk gasket still in the package, I also have the floor mats, hubcaps and the factory bumper jack.

-The exterior bodywork is about 75% complete. The hood, trunk lid and cowl vent were dipped and primed. The rest of the body has been cleaned up and straightened out.  There is a new quarter patch panels and new door bottoms from about 6 years ago along with a trunk pan removed from a 1969 Arizona car. The taillight housings and lenses are in great shape. The side marker lights and turn signal lights are in good shape.

-The majority of the frame is rusting out, so it will need to be addressed.

- The interior is Medium Blue. The exterior was Medium Blue but black and gray primer now.

-The fuel tank was removed and cleaned. It will need a new float for the fuel gauge to work correctly. It shows full now, but I’m not using the tank and I have the line disconnected and use a small gas can under the hood when I have to move the car.

-The engine runs and the car will drive.   Youtube video of the engine running - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lTKBYN-1Vo

-The left rear wheel bearing, front brake pads, rear brake shoes and ignition coil  were replaced 7 years ago along with some of the brake lines.

-The tires are worn, but hold air. The wheels, including the spare, are the factory steel wheels and need to be cleaned up if they are going to be used.

-It does need new A-arm bushings and the power steering return line.

What an Atlas-based Ford F-150 might look like

Thu, 27 Jun 2013

Just ahead of January's Detroit Auto Show, surprising rumors pegged Ford as revealing some sort of F-150 concept, perhaps as a hurried effort to deflate some of the buzz building around General Motors' new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra twins, which were also making their auto show debut. Those rumblings turned out to be true, as Ford rolled into the Motor City with its Atlas concept (inset, right), touting the truck's bold styling as a precursor to the next-generation F-Series.
The show truck featured all kinds of clever details, including active wheel shutters and a front air dam that raised and lowered to improve aerodynamics while preserving off-road ability. It also had a genuinely snarly face. And it's that pugnacious snout that may well be on its way to production. The good folks at TopSpeed have worked up the plausible-looking artist's rendering above by cross-referencing the Atlas concept with what little has been revealed from recent spy shots. The look is toned-down pretty dramatically from the concept truck, but its Atlas roots are clear, with a massive three-bar grille and bracket-shaped headlamps hiding a next-generation EcoBoost engine. In the rendering, the show truck's deeply contoured hood and roofline have been ditched and larger, more traditional side mirrors have been fitted - all likely concessions in the move to production sheetmetal.
While Ford has yet to officially announce when it will unveil the 2015 F-150, all signs point to next year's Detroit Auto Show - one year after the Atlas shrugged off GM's new pickups.

Are you the next Ford Edge? [UPDATE]

Wed, 13 Feb 2013

What looks to be the next Ford Edge has been leaked in an apparent corporate Powerpoint presentation deck. Despite the thumbnail image's blurry and pixelated quality, it appears as if the next generation crossover will be staying close to its current aesthetic despite an all-new front clip with redesigned grille, headlamps, and lower fascia with integrated fog lights.
The upscale-minded Blue Oval CUV is due for a redesign in 2015, having just received a mid-cycle refresh for 2011. It isn't clear what changes lie beneath the new skin, either in terms of mechanicals or interior refinement, but we suspect Ford will be looking to put some distance between the next generation model and the new Escape, which is suddenly much more car-like and not that far off the more expensive Edge in terms of overall size, power or refinement.
UPDATE: Substituted clearer image - thanks, Sean!

Focus ST diesel variant coming, just don't look for it here

Fri, 07 Mar 2014

A few years back, Volkswagen made some waves when it announced the Golf GTD - a diesel-powered car that, aside from its ultra-efficient, ultra-torquey engine, was identical to the gas-powered GTI. That meant cosseting sport seats, larger wheels, sportier suspension, larger brakes and a body kit that made the GTD indistinguishable from the GTI, except for the three little letters on the back and in the grille.
Now, Ford is looking to replicate VW's success, with a diesel version of the Focus ST. According to Motor Trend, the diesel-powered ST will use a 2.0-liter, 182-horsepower four-cylinder. With an unspecified amount of torque on offer (we'd guess around 280 pound-feet), the diesel hot hatch should hit 62 miles per hour in about eight seconds.
The report, which originally comes from Auto Express, claims the ST Diesel was confirmed by Ford Chief Marketing Officer Mark Fields during this week's Geneva Motor Show. Not surprisingly, it doesn't appear there are any plans to bring a diesel-powered Focus of any kind to the US, let alone one that uses the suspension, steering and other items from the ST. Of course, if there's an official confirmation from Ford, we'll be sure to report on it.
