1968 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible, Barn Find

call me 269-365-4982

The backstory;  my brother bought this beauty in 1990, with plans to more or less enjoy driving a great car.  This is exactly what he did, just summer cruising.  It only has 51000 miles, you know that's actual - remember how badly everything rusted from the 60-70s, and this one is solid except where water puddled on the passenger foot-well.  Look at these pictures http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cJzHfodB9g   Anyway, he drove it for a number of years, and then traded it to my father.  Pa was about 65 or so and planned a full restoration.  He disassembled pretty much as you see it, and saved everything.

What happened?  Pa (and wife) become a lot more interested in RVing around the country and just let this sit.  He had the transmission professionally rebuilt.  He bought everything new for the engine, as you can see.  His plan was get the body worked on, new brakes, new suspension, look at the steering.  Rebuild the engine while all that was going on.  Put it all together, final paint and then get the new top.  But it was wrapped up and sort of forgotten.  Now, well, he is in his 80's and no longer has the energy.  Everything stored indoors, and wrapped in plastic bags coated with WD-40.

Body
What you see is pretty much the way it is.  NO major bodywork needed.  Just a lot of sanding and paint.  All of the wiring is the way it was when disassembled, so easy to test if you want, or just use as is.  Power brakes, windshield wipers, the flip-up covers on the headlights all worked.  Doors open and close very smoothly.  trunk works and locks nice.

Engine
A complete stock 428 ci. Only non-stock item is the Holley carb.  Pa had the block dipped washed and rinsed, crank was ground and we put the crank into the block.  The heads were professionally rebuilt, new guides, ground the seats etc.  All of the other engine parts are new, as you can see.  Pistons, lifters, rings, bearings, water pump, etc.  It's all there.  He planned on using stock exhaust, too, since the whole dual exhaust is there.  Has power steering of course.

Transmission
Pa had this rebuilt.  New torque converter and new flexplate.

Interior
Well, the dash is cracked and dirty, no surprise.  The seats were removed, stored in bags and so are in great shape.  The seats are power, and it all worked way back when.  Also those are power windows, all four at the flick of buttons.  That is just too cool.  Yes we have the keys, and spares too.  All of the windows are intact, even though I didn't apply power to get them to come up and take pictures.

Top
Power top of course, good thing, it weighs a ton, look at it - it is huge.  Rear window is intact.

Wheels
Three of those rims are OE.  The other is a misfit.  Hubcaps in the pics.

Don't forget - about 80 pics on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cJzHfodB9g

New 2020 Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator recalled for minor safety issues

Wed, Aug 7 2019

Ford has announced a small recall on 2020 Explorers and 2020 Lincoln Aviators. Select units might be missing a manual park release cover, while others might have instrument clusters stuck in Factory Mode. The recall affects 14,135 SUVs in total.  While a vehicle is in production in a manufacturing facility, Ford might put them in what is known as Factory Mode to help reduce battery drain. Affecting the instrument cluster, this mode disables warning alerts, warning chimes, and does not show the PRNDL gear selector display. Ford says one vehicle was in an accident at a production facility as a result of the issue, but nobody was injured.  Separately, Ford found that some of these Explorers and Aviators might be lacking a manual park release cover. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards require a manual park release cover that is only removable with a tool. Without the cover, there is a very minor chance the manual park release could be accidentally actuated, which could allow the vehicle to move on its own.  The recalls affect 13,896 vehicles in the U.S. and 239 in Canada. The Explorers were built between March 27, 2019, and July 24, 2019. The Aviators were built between April 10, 2019, and July 24, 2019. Owners can use Ford's recall number 19C06, and if affected, can take their vehicles in for fixes.

Ford Escort Concept goes back to basics

Fri, 19 Apr 2013

Here's the thing about China: The folks buying cars there have a very different set of standards than shoppers in many other markets around the globe. While we all drool over hot metal with bold designs, and while we appreciate automakers going an extra step to inject even their cheapest offerings with aggressive and interesting cues, that sort of sheetmetal sex appeal doesn't always sell in the People's Republic. Case in point is Jaguar, which may be designing a more traditional-looking version of its XJ for the Chinese market, or more to the point of this story, Ford currently sells the less-exciting, last-generation Focus compact in China right alongside the new one.
So consider this new Shanghai-bound C-segment concept a preview of what's to come for that more traditional, budget-minded, less-sexy market. More proof of this pudding: Ford's even calling this concept the Escort - a nod to the Blue Oval's compact car days of yore, and a name that stirs up thoughts of basic, affordable transportation rather than great driving dynamics or bold design. "Customers in China described seeking a vehicle that is stylish - but not one that is arrogant or pretentious," Ford states. And this new Escort concept previews a possibility of providing exactly that for this rapidly expanding automotive market.
What you're looking at, then, is one of the most simple Ford designs we've seen of late, though it still incorporates all of the automaker's latest DNA. The signature hexagonal grille is front and center, flanked by attractive LED headlamps and chrome-rimmed foglamp housings. The entire car's design focuses on clean, smooth surfaces, with one strong character line flowing from front to back just below the beltline. We will say that the car looks decidedly more premium from the rear view, where narrow, horizontal taillamps with an LED accent give the car added visual width. Bland as it may be, it's a handsome little concept, though fear what would likely happen if all of the conceptual details get dumbed down for a production model.

Bill Ford wins National Pond Hockey Championship with employees

Tue, 11 Feb 2014

Who says executives aren't people? This past weekend, Bill Ford, executive chairman of Ford Motor Company, and a group of employees trekked up to Eagle River, WI for a few games of pond hockey. Team Ford took part in the 2014 Labatt Blue/USA Pond Hockey Championship, capturing its fifth title in the 50+ Tier 1 Division.
"It feels great to win," Ford, who plays on the team alongside other Ford employees, told the USA Hockey website. "It was fun to play [River Valley Pioneers] because they're great guys and we play them every year. We finally beat them, which we were due. It was a very clean game, a tough game."
The FoMoCo team managed to score seven goals to River Valley's two, and went undefeated in all five of its games during the tourney. Take a look below for the official press release on Team Ford's win.
