You are bidding on a very rare original 1966 Mercury 428 Super Marauder S-55 factory hotrod.  There were only 2,916 S-55's made; it was a special high-performance full-size powerhouse with one of the coolest interiors ever to hit the assembly line; a combination of diamond-tuft and tuck-and-roll straight from the factory.  They looked cool, they sounded tough, and they ran like the proverbial raped ape.  This S-55 features the the highly-sought-after original high-performance "Q-code" 428 4v Super Marauder / Police Interceptor engine... the same engine that came in the '67 and early '68 Shelby GT 500.  The car is finished in its' original "Olive Mist" dark green metallic paint (Ford called it  "Black Jade," very pretty color), and black bucket seat/console interior color combination.

The car is best described as an original, unmolested, driver-quality survivor classic.  It has a fantastic, even patina throughout and looks like a car that made it through unmolested, and unrestored.  Hard to find them with this kind of overall balanced age/patina/wear... very cool and rare car.

This is a two-owner car since new; the first owner was an elderly woman passed away in the early 90's.  She had a friend & neighbor who used to chauffeur her around in this car when she became too old to drive herself.  The lady who helped with the driving then purchased the car when the first owner died.  She drove the car occasionally until 1998, when she felt the car was "too much" for her.  It hasn't been registered or on the road since 1998, although she did start and move the car occasionally "to keep things going."  It's a complete, unmolested, original car.

The odometer shows only 43,239 miles, and the previous owner believes that number to be the original milage... she has had first-hand knowledge of the car since new, and said the car was only used for local driving.  The fantastic condition of the upholstery, interior trim, pedals, carpet, doors, etc. support the low miles; they are in excellent condition without the excessive wear a 100K+ car demonstrates.

Interior is beautiful including the upholstery, headliner, dash pad, etc.  Great center console, excellent steering wheel, very nice dash and gauges, nice door panels, etc.  Carpet is the original and still in looks great.  Everything is there, everything is in excellent survivor-quality condition, unrestored and unmolested.

I have just completed a full tune-up on the engine (plugs/points/cap/rotor/condenser/coil/wires), replaced the brakes all around, and changed the fluids and filters.  I also replaced the battery and the ignition relay, as well as the Holley carburetor *(original comes with it).  The car starts right up and runs strong; she is a solid runner.  The electrical systems all seem to be in proper working order, including the gauges, lights, heater, turn signals, etc.

The car has an overall straight body with minor dings and dents, and the paint still shines well for an old, original job. There is some rust down low on the rear quarters, and a touch on the top of the driver's rear fender (was parked under a tree), but is overall a very dry car without major rust/rot issues.  The floors, rockers, frame, bottoms of doors, lower fender sections, and trunk floor all look great.  The driver's door and front fender have been replaced way back when with OEM parts; the other panels are original to the car The doors have no sag at all in the hinges; they are as tight as when new.

The grill is pretty much perfect, and the bumpers are straight, with the outer chrome layer beginning to fail. Glass is all original and sound; same with the exterior stainless trim. Original wheels and hubcaps.

All the original drivetrain is still in place, and the car still retains its' original engine build tag and body buck tag.

An interesting side note for you Shelby Cobra fans... most of the mid/late 60's Shelby 427 SC street Cobras actually came with this same 428 engine, not the 427 side oiler that people generally associate with the car.  This would be a correct engine for your authentic '66 Shelby SC Cobra replica.

I reserve the right to end the auction early as I have the car for sale locally as well.  If you would like to make me an offer through ebay, I might be willing to end the auction early to you and save us both some time.  Clear title in hand, no brands or issues.  You may call me directly at 360-936-9257 to discuss.

While every effort is being made to describe this vehicle accurately, it is a 47-year old classic automobile, and is being sold as-is without warranty expressed or implied.  Shipping will be the full responsibility of the buyer; however, I will make myself available to your shipper for loading and pick-up.

Please be prepared to remit payment within three days or less of the auction's end.

Ford GT successor to debut in Detroit and go racing

Thu, Dec 18 2014

Anticipation for all of the exciting reveals at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show just a few weeks away is building to a fever pitch, and rumors are mounting that Ford has a big surprise in store in the shape of a future performance halo model. Insider sources speaking to Autoweek claim the next Ford supercar is definitely going to be revealed at the Detroit show in early January. However, the model is not necessarily the next-generation Ford GT in terms of its name or design aesthetic. Instead, one of these people indicates that the new halo model might drop retro styling altogether. If the latest reports are to be believed, Ford's high-performance project goes beyond something to just grab headlines and rocket down the street. According to Autoweek, the automaker is also reportedly employing Chip Ganassi Racing to run a two-car racing effort in the Tudor United SportsCar Championship in 2016. That would allegedly include a trip to the 24 Hours of Le Mans to race on the 50th anniversary of the Ford GT40's win in 1966. The speculation goes that at least the racing version might use a twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 for power. However, the motorsports part of the program may not be announced during the auto show reveal. Rumors about the new halo car from the Blue Oval and its racing intentions have been percolating for months. The company might have considered an LMP2 entry, but speculation popped up later about the production supercar. A more recent report suggested that Ford might show a new Shelby GT350R Mustang, a successor to the F-150 Raptor and next Ford GT in Detroit.

Tier 1 suppliers call GM the worst OEM to work with

Mon, 12 May 2014

Among automakers with a big US presence, General Motors is the worst to work for, according to a new survey from Tier 1 automotive suppliers, conducted by Planning Perspectives, Inc.
The Detroit-based manufacturer, which has been under fire following the ignition switch recall and its accompanying scandal, finished behind six other automakers with big US manufacturing operations. Suppliers had issues with trust and communications, as well as intellectual property protection. GM was also the least likely to allow suppliers to raise their prices in the face of unexpected increases in material cost, all of which contributed to 55 percent of suppliers saying their relationship with GM was "poor to very poor."
GM's cross-town competitors didn't fare much better. Chrysler finished in fifth place, ahead of GM and behind Dearborn-based Ford, which was passed for third place this year by Nissan. Toyota took the top marks, while Honda captured second place.

Ford to rebrand SVT as 999?

Mon, 22 Sep 2014

Ford operates a number of performance divisions around the world. There's SVT in the US, Team RS in Europe and Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) in Australia. But the Blue Oval has been steadily integrating its performance operations into one unit, and here we might have our first indication of what it will be called.
A reader at Jalopnik sent in a survey in which respondents were asked to gauge the name for a new performance brand from a "major automotive manufacturer," and while the identity of that automaker was not disclosed, according to the survey, the automaker is considering the name 999 for its new go-fast unit.
As our compatriots point out, the 999 was Ford's first racecar, a rudimentary chassis with a 19-liter inline-four campaigned by Henry Ford around the turn of the 20th century. (Ford also used the number to designate a Fusion fuel-cell racer a few years back.) That could prove the tie-in Dearborn is looking for in rebranding its performance operations worldwide, replacing the letters SVT, RS and FPV globally under one name.
