For sale is our 1965 Ford Galaxie XL Convertible. It has a 390 Big Block engine with an Autolite Carburetor. This has been ours for over 21 years, but we no longer have room for this big car. We used to drive it all the time( of course in Oregon that means about 4 months a year). Then about 5 years ago we had to move it to a different storage place and just never drove it much after that.. It has been lightly customized. The door knobs are shaved and it has rear wheel skirts and non functional Lake Pipes. It also has a design on both sides.  It is a navy blue with a light metallic and the interior is a powder blue. The interior seat covers are in good condition. I don't know about the foam pads underneath. It has 4 Tru Spoke wire  wheels. Some have some rust on them. You might be able to use steel wool to get it off. This car had an old restoration before I bought it . There are places where I can see that underneath the paint something is bubbling, but nothing has broken thru and you have to look to see them. .The trunk is a slightly different shade of Navy. Overall this is a great car. Just the old restoration  needs to be redone, or you can easily just drive it and enjoy it the way it is. Just remember that it has not been driven regularly in the last 5 years We had the engine rebuilt in 1998.  We have a number of receipts for repairs and upgrading parts.  The speedometer reads 53,798. We took off the top of windshield inside chrome and rechromed it and have set it somewhere yet to be found. But its somewhere! Also the dash, top switch needs to be replaced. We recently had the Autolite Carburetor rebuilt. The car has a clear Title.  If you have any questions please feel free to call Bill at 503-706-2760. Buyer is responsible for picking up the car within 2 weeks..Winning bidder is expected to make a  $2000 down payment or deposit if not able to pay full amount immediately when auction ends: and make full payment within 5 business days after auction ends. Please contact Seller when auction ends to make arrangements if necessary. CAR IS SOLD AS IS WITH NO RETURNS..THANKS FOR LOOKING

Ford Focus was best-selling nameplate in 2012

Tue, 09 Apr 2013

Last August, Ford made a few waves by claiming that the Ford Focus was, at that point, the top-selling car in the world. The automaker failed to account for variations of the Toyota Corolla wearing a different name (such as the Auris and Matrix), however. With official data from Polk coming in now, Ford is able to say that the Focus was, in fact, the best-selling nameplate in the world last year.
Using new-car registrations (which doesn't factor in fleet sales), the Polk data shows that a total of more than one million Focus models around the world. Strong sales in the US and China have led to a 16 percent increase in year-over-year Focus sales from 2011 that helped to create even more of a gap between it and the second-best global seller, the Corolla.
Ford also had the Fiesta and F-Series listed in the top 10 for worldwide nameplates, but what's even more impressive is the fact that the F-Series is only sold in North America. Scroll down to see the list (compiled by Ford using Polk data) of the top global sellers last year and a press release from Ford.

Ford pulls official support from top-level NHRA teams

Sun, 11 Aug 2013

As the smallest team in the sport, it wasn't really a surprise when Dodge decided to pull out of NASCAR, but Autoweek is reporting that Ford is looking to pull the plug on its professional-level NHRA sponsorships following the 2014 season. With attendance and television ratings down, the article reports that Ford is just backing out of the top series but will remain active in the Sportsman classes of racing, which are geared more toward the grassroots and semi-professional racers.
This means that one of drag racing's biggest names, John Force, will be left looking for new sponsorship after next season. Force, 64, has been with Ford for 17 years, winning 15 championships in that time and winning almost half of all Funny Car events in his Mustang since he started working with Ford in 1997, but after 2014, there could be some big shakeups at John Force Racing.
According to the report, Force would consider is moving over to the Top Fuel dragster series, although he could also move to another manufacturer to remain in the Funny Car series. With Ford on the way out, this leaves just Toyota and Dodge as the remaining active automakers in the highest levels of drag racing.

1964 Ford GT40 prototype to be auctioned in April

Wed, 12 Mar 2014

The Ford GT40 owns a firm spot on the list of the greatest American racecars ever made, being the first car from the United States to take an overall win in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. And now Mecum will auction what it claims is second-oldest GT40 still in existence at its Houston sale on April 12.
The story of the GT40 is fascinating. Henry Ford II attempted to buy Ferrari in the early '60s, but Enzo refused. Ford decided if he couldn't have them, then he would beat the Prancing Horse on the track. Ford went to Carroll Shelby and asked him to spearhead the program. The early cars combined a steel monocoque chassis with Ford's 4.2-liter V8 engine pumping out around 350 horsepower. The first prototype made its public debuted on April 1, 1964, at the New York Auto Show.
Shelby kept building prototypes, including GT/104, which is for sale here. This version featured a lighter steel chassis and was raced at Le Mans in 1964. However, a fire forced it to retire. It was then repainted and had a 4.7-liter (289-cubic-inch) engine fitted. The chassis had its best finish at the 1965 Daytona Continental 2,000 Kilometers where it finished third with Bob Bondurant and Ritchie Ginther behind the wheel. Later that season, it was shipped back to Ford where it was restored and displayed at auto shows until 1971 when the automaker sold it. Since then, it has had many private owners.
