1965 Ford Galaxie 500 Police Interceptor – Specifications & history:

This car was manufactured in Los Angeles, California and was one of 49,982 made in that year.  The number of “Interceptors” for police use is not reported. Factory spec’s indicated that it was delivered with a four barrel 352 V8, however, this “Police Interceptor” engine was upgraded to a 392 Interceptor with a double pumper Holly carb.

Current owner purchased the car from a Movie/TV series production company in Los Angeles who had the car since 2002.  It was a lot car and was used in several productions during its history.  Based on the mud found under the car during the current owners restoration the car apparently was used extensively in movie action scenes.  A plaque in the glove box supports Mike Walsh’s (movie producer) report to current owner that it was used in the movie “Catch me if you can” with Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio.  While the current owner created the Mayberry TV show connection of the car, this cannot be confirmed.  A depiction of the Mayberry series actors is included in the pictures included.  Owner frame-on restoration completed during 2010-2011 included:

-Power washed underside to remove extensive road mud from production

     activities.

-Repainting and Mayberry Sheriff Logo added

-Extensive cosmetic restoration on trim, wheels and some body panels

-Cleaning of interior and engine compartment

            -New carpet.

            -Rebuilt transmission in 2011

-New Holly dual carb replaced original carb

-Complete engine tune-up and belt replacement

-New starter, alternator and voltage regulators

            -Rebuilt radiator

            -Dual exhaust system

-Drive shaft replaced (original damaged during action filming)

-Under dash oil pressure and volt meter

            -AM/FM/CD/DVD/GPS(touch) Stereo/Video system

-12V/110V inverter installed under seat to run computer or other 110V

    devices

            -Rear Speakers.

-Police bubble light restored to working condition.

            -Vintage police siren installed.

-Amp system with multiple siren and songs selections

            -New Brakes and drums

-Michelin tires.

            -Air shocks.

-Air bags added to rear coil suspension to provide leveling when car is

     heavily loaded.

-Vintage Air Conditioning & heating system.

The car has Power Steering, AC, automatic transmission and tinted windows. No engine work was necessary since it has performed perfectly for current owner.

Car was driven in a membership Fireball Run trip (search for missing children) in 2011.   During this highway multi city trip of over 4,000 miles the car performed flawlessly.   During this trip the Car was taken on the Atlanta Motor Speedway and clocked at over 125 MPH and tracked true.

This cars history and appearance make it car show hit.  It is a car that needs to be driven to really enjoy its history and many comfort and display features.

Ford reports 58% drop in Q2 profits on European losses

Wed, 25 Jul 2012

Ford Motor Company announced Wednesday that it has posted a $1 billion profit for the second quarter of 2012. That sounds like good news for the Blue Oval, until you take into account that Ford posted a $2.4 billion profit for Q2 a year ago. That is a substantial 58 percent loss.
Ford also posted $465 million in international losses, with $404 million of those losses coming directly from Europe. The automaker also increased its European loss projections to $1 billion for 2012, due in large part to the economic crisis overseas, which has resulted in increased unemployment and decreased consumer confidence.

The 11 most expensive American cars ever

Tue, 12 Aug 2014

Here's a Pro Tip for all you would-be classic car investors out there: buy Ferraris. With the Pebble Beach festivities kicking off this week, including any number high end car auctions, we thought it would be entertaining to compile a list of some to the most expensive cars ever sold with the bang of a gavel. Trouble is, once you get past the splendor of everyone's favorite Italian sports car maker, that list is pretty boring.
Ferrari dominates the all-time auction sales list; seven of the top ten most expensive cars sold wear the Cavallino Rampante badge, as well as more than half of the top fifty. Sure, a nearly $30-million Mercedes-Benz W196 racecar might be the new top dog as of last year, but it's even possible that Ferrari could take that title back in Monterey this weekend. Long story short: we think a list of the most expensive American cars ever sold at auction is a lot more entertaining to read. Hell, our list has a friggin' Batmobile on it, how can it go wrong?
Follow on below for the top ten cars that are red, white, blue and a whole lot of green.

Ford ditching Microsoft in favor of BlackBerry QNX for next-gen Sync?

Mon, 24 Feb 2014

Ask the average consumer - at least, those who follow the goings-on in the automotive industry - which carmaker they'd most closely associate Microsoft, and the answer you'd most likely get would be Ford. The Blue Oval automaker, after all, was at the forefront of bringing Microsoft technology into cars with its pioneering Sync system, and, though reality didn't turn out as such, Ford's CEO was recently touted as a potential future head of the Redmond-based software giant. But that relationship, according to the latest reports, could be coming to an end.
Alan Mullaly kiboshed the idea of leaving Dearborn for Redmond, but more importantly Ford is tipped to be ditching Microsoft in developing its next-generation Sync system. In its place, Ford is expected to partner with BlackBerry's QNX division.
Now, before you go balking "BlackBerry?! But they're finished!" consider that QNX is (or at least was) an independent entity that Research In Motion (as BlackBerry's Ontario-based parent company was then known) just happened to have bought back in 2010. QNX provides control systems to everything from nuclear power plants and UAVs to automakers like Audi, BMW and Porsche.
